Anyone know how often the platinum spark plugs need to be changed on a V6 Mondeo?

My 1998 V6 is coming up for 62000 can't find any record of the plugs being changed. I'm sure they are platinum as that's what they fitted when the car was new. I heard somewhere once that they should last 100000? not sure, car runs ok with reasonable fuel economy for size of engine.

thanks in advance. Read more

Some common errors on these: split intake hose between turbo-intercooler-manifold.Wastegate control, Air mass meter (AMM/AFM), split vacuum hoses. Most common is AMM, unplug and see if it improves. Will flag fault on management light)

My ASDA in Watford turns over £750.000.000 a year

From my experience I don't think there is a foodstore anywhere in Britain that takes £14m a week, including petrol!

Maybe £75m?

Has anyone any experience of buying cars from the above? Seems to be a fixed price, you get the car delivered to your dealer. However, are the dealer network happy with these? Do they get good profit from them or will your Trade In suffer dramatically as a result?

The prices seem very keen, even better than the cars on sale at the dealers. However, the definition of a Renault To Go car is (from their website)

WE KNOW THE CARS AND VANS:
The unique element of the scheme is that these nearly new cars and vans are delivered fully prepared direct from Renault. They are in fact cars and vans owned by Renault and have been used as management or press demonstration vehicles by Renault UK, or they are cars and vans that have been used on short term contracts with some of the countries leading rental companies. Either way, we know the full history, we can validate the mileage, we can vouch for the quality and, as a result, we can guarantee that what we are selling you is the very best nearly new car or van.

So you may be lucky and get a car from a Renault Manager, alternatively, you may get one that has been trashed by a member of the press (wonder if that includes the Megane from Top Gear airbag test), or an ex hire car which has been driven by hundreds of people in its short life. This kind of disagrees with the posts in the Top Gear thread that said all press vehicles were scrapped?

Any thoughts / experience?

Every now and then the CD player in my car has a spasm. When I normally play a CD in the car I just switch off the engine whilst the CD is still in the CD player. Then when you restart the engine the CD player restarts where it left off. Now this process was normally quite quiet. Now the CD player keeps making a loud ticking noise and the after some time the it reads CD ERROR on the LCD display. Sometimes it just spits out the CD and sometimes it sorts itself out.

I had the car in at Audi a about a month ago for a general check up and I asked them to take a look at the CD player. They came back and said this was normal and it was the CD player just resetting itself. This is a load of old tosh as the CD never made that noise when I purchased the car. A friend has just purchased the TDI version so I will ask what his CD player is getting up to.

Should I push Audi to replace the CD player or should I wait until it goes altogether. The car is only 9 months old from new and I don't really want to wait.

By the way, all those interested in my engine oil usage saga, the car went in for them to check that out and they found nothing wrong. Since that visit the oil level seems to be OK. Strange or what!!!

Apart from what DD said.have you checked for finger marks on the disc/dirt? clicking noise may come from poss/laser not reading disc properly or disc may have been forced into unit at some point.later could cause the disc to not be in correct place for laser to read it.in some cases they do correct others they dont.in which case a new unit needed.just a thought

I am extremely excited as ive finally ordered my new car, a mini cooper S, I get it in September and cannot wait, anyway I have a few questions I hope someone can help me with,

Firstly the beetle, its 2.0manual in silver with black interior, it has done 30k has a cd changer and heated seats,
its just had 4 new tyres and will be newly serviced at time of sale, full service history of course, can someone please tell me how much its worth to sell privatly and how much can i expect on a trade in value, it IS in excellent condition, no stone chips or scratches or anything on the inside.

Secondly the mini, i really really really REALLY want harness seat belts, I have ALWAYS wanted them and now get to have a car that wouldnt look daft with them on, I definatly do not want to invalidate my warrenty but need some advice please,
Do you think MINI would fit them for me?
how do they get fitted to the car? can they use the exsisting belts points at the sides of the seats to secure them? I spoke to someone who said they would drill into the floor pan of the car and bolt them in under the seat but that sounds a bit tricky to me, and im sure the warrenty would be invalid if i got that done.

Any help or advice much appreciated. thankyou!

SWMBO and I finally got ourselves organised and applied for and received our new licences, with our current addresses on, only some 16 months after we moved!

It's great for me because my speeding endorsement from 1999 has now disappeard. I now have a clean licence again.

I was also pleased to receive a credit card sized licence that can sit in my wallet along with all my other items. Only I was disappointed to have to be given the counterpart as well. This put me right back where I was before, having to store an unwealdly parchment in my wallet!

Apparently both have to be produced on demand.

What is the point of this counterpart? I know that it includes information about provisional entitlements, entitlement history and endorsments, but with a bit of forethought could this information not be included on the photocard?

Yet another half-bottomed government idea. They do this sort of thing to make the masses believe that they are really working to change things for the better. Like banning fox hunting, which the vast majority couldn't care less about. We're in a war and they're going to revive the hunting bill! Brilliant. Hope you all voted today.

The card would only be any good if it held all relevant data electronically, and all police cars had a computer system that could a) read the licence and b) connect to the PNC/DVLC.

That's how it works in the US. They take your license (US spelling!) back to the car and swipe it, and up pops your driving history.

Too expensive for here of course, so we just do a cheap, cut-down version that really doesn't do anything at all.

My 1998 Nissan Micra, 1.0 engine, automatic, retards timing for about 20 degrees. It has been checked at a Nissan dealer, and two independent garages. The last one discovered that the ecu puts out spike waveforms when it is running normally. It then squares off the spikes for four waves and the timing retards. Everything checks out. Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks,

Got my rebuilt throttle body this afternoon and fitted it. It made no difference. The problem is still there. I'm going to get the original distributor tomorrow an fit it.

Got any more ideas that might work?

New front brake discs and pads fitted about 15,000 miles ago, and there's still plenty of life left in both discs and pads.

But recently a slightly rusty band has appeared on the inner surface of the right-hand disc. The band is about 1cm wide, starting at the outside edge of the disc.

I say "recently" because it's only slightly rusty so whatever the problem is, it couldn't have been going on long.

I took the pads off and found them a bit of a tight fit in the caliper, so I cleaned everything up and made sure everything was moving freely. But a week later, the rusty band is unchanged so I don't think that could have been the cause.

Any ideas what to do next?

Have you tried removing the build-up of rust around the rim, which makes the disk thicker there than on the wearing area? After a few years' use it can form a rim up to 1mm wider than the disk. Chip it off with an old file or something.

We have a 1997 Caravelle Club 8 2.5TDI, tornado red, 80000miles, FSH, ours since new, used as private car for big family. General condition is good, and we've kept the bodywork and paintwork well maintained. Interior tidy, but shows a bit of wear as expected for age.
As a niche vehicle, it's difficult to judge a private retail value. What should we be looking for?
