I'm selling my old car and havent had too many offers yet. Its a P Reg Escort and I was thinking of selling 20 raffle tickets at £50 a ticket and who ever gets drawn out wins the car and they can sell it on or use it or whatever.
Are there any legal implications for this ? Read more
I wanted to mark the pollen filter on my Focus before it had its first annual service. My Haynes manual said the filter cover was secured at the front with three clips and the back with three screws.
I released the clips but could only find one screw, the other two positions appear only to be mouldings in the plastic cover. I lifted and pulled but could not release the hidden fixings. I pushed the cover back in position as best I could and hoped I would be informed of any damage during the service.
After collecting the car I found the filter had not been changed. I returned to the Ford Dealer and watched the fitter release the front clips and lift the cover sufficiently to remove the old filter and slide in the new one.
I wish to remove the cover and ensure the cover is correctly sealed to prevent any water entering the interior.
Can anyone explain how to release the hidden fixings? Read more
Thanks for that, I'll have a look before the downpour season starts!
Yesterday, when going to see a client, I was about to cross a single lane bridge, only to find a couple of elderly holiday makers in a car facing me STOPPED in the middle of the bridge admiriing the view.
Not a problem I thought, they'll see me and carry on.
So I waited.....
...and waited...
So the horn was deployed as they had absolutely no idea I was there. They duly carried on, looking at me as if I had ruined their whole holiday.
If that was you, sorry to spoil your moment of tranquility, I know the view of the river is one to behold, but some of us locals actually NEED that bridge to cross!
GRRR!

I couldn't really remember any specific incidents - then one happened on the way home yesterday afternoon.
Following a new 04-plate 5-series BMW on a nice, straight local B-road. Parked up on the nearside ahead of us, straddling the pavement, was a van from a double glazing company - complete with glass rack on offside of van. BMW man decided that, despite the oncoming traffic, there was plenty of room to get past. As he starts to move past the van, oncoming traffic doesn't yield as much as Beemer-boy hopes and he twitches slightly back towards the nearside. Result: rear door comes into contact with horizontal base of the glass rack causing a nice tear in the door skin.
Took great effort not to get of car and just point and laugh!!
I have replaced the ignition lock in my 10 year old fiesta. Problem is refitting. The lock should be slid into the barrel at position 1. My problem is that the position of the switch in the barrel is at 3 so the lock will not fit correctly. I have tried to turn the switch to position 1 by using a screw driver but the switch is locked in position 3. What can I do? Read more
forgot to mention disconnect multiplug from ignition switch before trying to insert lock or altering switch possition.
Following the link on the RH side of the page it seems that Citroen are offering three grand cash back on a Picasso
INMHO this means that the car is overpriced by three grand to start with and that the advertised price is so much baloney!
Reminds me when we used to stick a stripe on the side, a sunroof on the top, call it "Special Edition", ramp the price up by a grand and offer the mugs £1000 minimum p/x on literally anything as long as it didn't need feeding or taking for walkies!

Compare, for instance, the Picasso 1.6 HDI Desire with the Ford Focus C-MAX 1.6 TDCi LX(same engine, I believe). At www.drivethedeal.com, the Picasso can be had for about £1200 less, but has a much better specification than the C-MAX. The manufacturer's list price for both cars is about the same (a little more for the Picasso).
Honest John, thank you for coming to see us in Watford. Before The Grove opened we had lovely cornfields, lots of rabbits and herons and nice country walks. They have managed to destroy it and cover it up with that wretched golf course.
Recently The Darkness (a popular music combo) visited The Grove, so it must be good then! Read more
The car passed its MOT but the mechanic reckons the engine "looks like its got problems" (condensation, camshaft...) . I may be female but I've driven for years and this engine feels fine and the same garage services it reasonably regularly.. All I notice is a tapping when first starting, I thought that was just the timing.
Please can someone suggest a few intelligent questions to ask the mechanic before I get my chequebook out. Read more
That's all been really helpful, I'll do as you suggest and just keep a look out for any change. Many thanks!
Yep, apparently it's true according to a radio news programme I heard this afternoon with a Labour MP - Paul Flynn ? - 4x4's will soon be banned from Paris!
Given Red Ken's recent comments about 4x4's, I think if he gets re-elected there's a good chance he'll try the same tactic in London.
Although I don't like them, slippery slope is a phrase which comes to mind. Read more

I now have images of a grey-gloved hand with a cardboard

Hello all,
as you may have seen from recent posts, my insurance debacle has taken a new turn. I now need to find a company that's going to insure me for 3 months. Simple as.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Adam

Some insurance companies allow you to suspend the insurance and restart it much later and you only loose a day. Regards Peter
I was going to put this under "Unusual sightings", but it's a bit different. Just in case those within striking distance of Luton and Hitchin are interested:
This Saturday and Sunday (12/13 June), the Steam Fair is held at St Paul's Walden near Hitchin. Apart from traction engines, steam lorries, antique tractors and the like, quite a few classic cars turn up. It's a delightful event in a picturesque rural setting.
Also this Sunday is the Luton Festival of Transport, which I believe is now quite a major event. It features all sorts of classic cars and other vehicles. It's at Stockwood Park, right next door to M1 junction 10 Read more
OK I'll add another. The Wrotham Steam & Classic Cars Festival, Wrotham Hill just off the M20 J2 & near Swanley all in Kent.
I'll be there with the TR newly returned after rebuild....

I thought about opening up the draw to a larger number of people but it makes it much less likely that you will win
Cheers for the advice i'll let you know how I get on.
