I have a Terrano 2 diesel automatic. Now, original fit Pirellis do not last long but grip well. I tried a pair of General Grabber AP\'s which last forever but don\'t grip. Any suggestions for a compromise tyre? Read more
OK. Let's get serious. Haynes are now publishing a guide to cancer (that is a kind of human rust that sends you to the great scrapheap in the sky). So get out there and read it even if only in your local library and live a little longer to enjoy your motoring. Read more

My nephew lives in Dorset. Was quoted £1400 for this. Local specialist did it by lowering the engine at an angle. Volunteered that he had changed the tensioner as a matter of course, and had checked the water pump but all ok. £496 all in, I think
I desperately need excuses not to be Dad's taxi. "I've had a few pints" fails to work now. I don't want to repeat the "I've crashed my motorcycle and have a pin in my arm" excuse that I used a few years back.
Any ideas? Read more
Funnily enough round my neck of the woods (shrewsbury) I see a old '90s pink Jag mini-cab, with a lady driver called something like kitty's cars. Must do a fair amount of trade to make a profit with that gas-guzzler.
Don't have e-mail for Gazza, so contacting via BR.
As promised - a report back on my front strut brace fitted to the Maxima/QX.
Basically, it works! Much improved turn-in and less understeer. I really was sceptical and only manufactured one on the advice of a mate who's a ride & handling engineer at MIRA. The Maxima/QX has a pretty substantial bodyshell and a large pressed 'web' between the front suspension towers and the firewall - so I didn't think a tower brace would make much difference, but I was wrong.
I manufactured mine out of steel on a CNC machine (after taking lots of measurements!) and it fits very nicely. Just recently I found this Hong Kong company that sells to the UK on Ebay. They take PayPal and charge £16.50 for delivery. The bars seem to sell for £30-40, so not a bad price overall:

Help! my next door neighbour always brings their work van home, which does not bother me. What does is that they park it about 2-3cms away from my car. I need to be at work early on the mornings and several times i have been blocked in! What can I do? any suggestions would be greatfully recieved. Read more
Tend to agree with the 'he probably doesn't realise he's doing it' school of thought here. As someone else said, there are loads of people who live in a world of their own - just look at how many people dump their trollies right in the middle of the aisle at the supermarket or stand having a chat in the middle of the pavement or in a doorway.
I doubt he's doing it to wind you up, why would he? Your main problem will come if he is one of the aforementioned because if he is, he'll probably require constant reminders and that will wind you up because you just can't understand why he still does it. You haven't described how you/he park and what other obstructions there may be so it's difficult to picture. Perhaps you could 'engineer' a situation in which you either do as Cliff did
{nice one Cliff:)} or just explain the difficulties you have, how early you have to start work and how much you don't want to have to bother him and his family at 3am. Good luck.
old car is now brown bread(dead),its got 10 mth tax to run out,can i get a refund or swop it to get a new tax disc, thank you ,i remember years back i got a refund after 3 mths of telling them(but sumone said the rules have changed now) Read more
You can pick up a form from major post offices. You get a refund for each full month left to run. e.g. if you post it today you get a refund from July onwards. I did this for a car which was written off. The refund came through in a couple of weeks.

The Times online reports that:
A jury has ordered the car manufacturer Ford to pay $368 million (£200m) in damages to a Californian woman who was paralysed when her Explorer sports-utility vehicle rolled over.
driving.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,12389-1134277...l
The report says the driver argued that the Explorer's design made it prone to rolling over during common evasive driving manoeuvres, but quotes Ford as saying that it's not fair, because "any SUV would have rolled over under similar circumstances". Note: not any car, just any SUV.
Does this sort of vehicle need special driving techniques? If so, are drivers warned about them? Read more
>Does this sort of vehicle need special driving techniques? If so, are drivers warned about them?
No they dont need special driving techniques, but care. The big high ones anyway. They are less stable at speed than lower cars with sudden manoevours. There was a spate of swerving Range Rovers mounting the central crash barriers and landing in the other carriageway. Some of the handbooks do point this out.
Just a quick one and (hopefully) not that serious but...
I bought a 52 reg VW Golf TDi from a franchised dealer around 3 weeks ago. This past weekend having used the boot properly for the first time I've found out the floor lining is soaked in oil or grease, which has left marks on suitcases etc.
The question is... Does this sound to anyone like an indication of a serious problem, rather than an innocent spill from an oil can or similar that I assume it is?
Either way, where do I stand legally? Presumably I can ask the garage to pay for/ supply a new carpet as the car was not of a "satisfactory quality and fit for the purpose intended", i.e., in this case, to transport items in the boot?
Any words of wisdom much appreciated. Read more
As I thought but many thanks for taking the time to post.

On our Maverick (assume same model) we've had good results on and off road with Michelin A/T (All Terrain). 235/?/R15 I think is the size.
