How do you reset the service notice that is expected to appear on the computer screen of a Micra 1.2L SE (current model) after having done the 8000 mile service?
The skimpy hand book that comes with the car says it is a garage job (naturally).
Secondly, as there is not yet a Haynes book for it, does anyone know of a service CD, or something else of reasonable cost?
Ebay shows only a Nissan service parts CD.
No advice to take it to a garage please.

From 'The Economist' 5th June issue....
'' Mitsubishi Motors said it would recall over 160,000 vehicles made between 1992 and 1997 to repair 26 defects. The Japanese firm admitted that the problems were discovered in 2000 when it owned up to other faults that resulted in a damaging mass recall''.
No details of models etc. so if you have a Mitsubishi maybe a phone call might be in order.
HJ, have you heard anything about this? Read more
i have just changed my alloys with the 2003 cdx alloys. but on the back of the alloys the et is 39 (offset) but on my older alloys the et is 33 (offset) the pcd is still the same. i have gone from 205/65/15 to 225/55/16. will the offset make any difference as the et is +6. the car is a 2.5 v6 auto cd. I have recently acquired a Ford Fiesta Classic 1.1 96 reg.
I am having trouble with the ignition and frankly am a bit consfused about where the problem might be after reading previous posts about key problems on the ford fiesta.
The problem being that sometimes the car starts fine with either the black or the red key i got with car (bought second hand last week). When i turn the ignition to position II the LED on the clock comes on steady and I can fire the ignition up.
Sometimes however either of the keys refuse to work, when i turn to positin two, the warning lights come up as expected but the LED on the watch blinks rapidly. If I leave it to do that it blinks rapidly for a minute and then at random intervals.
The manual says that this means the key has not been recognised. If I now leave the car alone for 10-15 minutes and come back it all works fine.
Any clues what's going on?

The red key is the master key. Both keys carry a passive chip which the transponder around the ignition barrel recognises. Suggest you start from scratch by opening the door with the red key, insert the red key and turn ignition on, wait for red light in clock to come on then switch off and immediately insert black key and turn ignition on. The red key primes the immobiliser to look for a 'new' key for about 20 seconds. Putting in the black key then 'registers' that key as a legitimate key (up to 5 keys can be programmed).

Simplicate and add lightness!!
OK, so SWMBO has been driving around quite happily for a few weeks now.
The lady in my life was always a very reluctant driver, having been coersed into taking her test by an ex employer, and then disaster struck with the little pug 309 SRi.
She was pulling in for petrol and couldn't align it to the pump at our local garage. She got into such a flurry that she just completely lost her nerve. Apparently an old chap tapped on the window and asked her if she was OK. This was some 3 years ago.
The thing is she didn't mind driving the previous car, a Fiat Regata, the car that most people wouldn't be seen dead in!
The problem is that all the driving was down to me. With my starting up a business and working on our house, my time was precious enough without having to be the only family taxi as well.
About 18 months ago, I muted the idea about getting a small automatic for her. Although she was not keen on the idea she didn't dismiss it outright, then there was another problem - I lost my job. The idea was then shelved.
As most of you know, my mother passed away some 3 weeks ago. When we went to the house We decided to remove her car (a Nissan Almera Auto) with a view to selling it as quickly as possible to release some money to pay for short term expenses etc. However, I came up with the idea of her having a go in it.
We went on a quiet road after getting her on the insurance. My mother's policy kindly covered both of us until we either sold it or decided to keep it. SWMBO started to take a liking to it.
After a couple of journeys with me, then her mother she has now named it, put an air freshner in it and guards it with a possesive jealousy that I never knew she was capable of!
This is great! For the first time ever, I don't have to take my youngest to her riding lesson tomorrow! I can have a lie in or get on with the house. It's kind of ironic though, she is often out when I get back. I don't seem to be covering a lot of miles at the moment because I am working locally, The Discovery hardly gets used, the van only goes locally, but the Nissan seems to be clocking up more miles than ever!

"Auburn Hills, Michigan-AP) -- DaimlerChrysler is recalling more than 438,000 PT Cruisers because of a flaw that can cause a fire under the hood. A DaimlerChrysler spokeswoman says there have been nine reports of fires but no injuries or deaths. The recall covers P-T Cruisers from model years 2001 to 2005.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that a high-pressure power steering hose can loosen and come into contact with other parts of the vehicle. If the hose is punctured and power steering fuel leaks out, a fire can start."
Also reported on CBS News.
Are the UK models affected?

Damn, I thought you were going to say they'd recalled them because they've realised how cack and ridiculous they are...
Just received the new company car package and its time to book the test drives and work out the finances. I'd would really appreciate any thoughts and particulary your experiences with any of the following as they all seem affordable when put through the number cruncher. I currently have a Mk IV Golf 1.8T, but it seems from a tax perspective that the new E4 turbo diesels are a no-brainer.
I need a little bit of room in the back for the two sprogs (no car seats required any more :-)) and would like something at least as quick - if not better.
BMW 320td - Coupe or Compact ?
Audi A3 - 2.0 TDI (or FSI?)
Honda Accord (Tempted by the Civic Type R but the emissions are a bit high)
Alfas are not allowed.
PS Does anybody know yet what the taxation levels for CO2 emissions will be after 2005/6 ?

I would be interested in any other BR converts to the
new breed of TDs as to whether they have found themselves
adapting so that they get the best from these engines ??
Of course you adapt (unless you've no mechanical sympathy whatsoever). I've had both diesel and petrol company cars over the last 10-12 yrs and you quickly adapt your driving style to each car. However my current 406 HPI (that's High Power Injection - petrol) is gutless below 3500RPM and, after years of that being pretty close to max RPM in diesels it seems cruel to rev the nuts off it. It always seems to be doing about twice the RPM that a diesel would be, and seems much less relaxing to drive. Powerful diesels just waft along.
You never had it so good. (well 1990 was good anyway)
Saw a piece on TV the other morning and now found the clip on the web.
Basically the preface is that motoring costs have not changed for 40 years.
1970 - Petrol 16p/l (85p in todays money)
£5387 total motoring costs in todays money
1980 - 44p (84p) £5,128
1990 - 60p (73p) £5,024
2004 - 83p (83p) £5,335

The £5300 approx is an interesting figure, that can't possibly apply to a large part of the population, certainly not to me. My total costs for the year for my old Xantia are nothing near as much as that figure. Taking into account the depreciation over the life of the car and allowing for the fact that the car is worth next to nothing now, the rest of my costs would have to come to something like £4000, and they are nowhere near that much. Insurance is only £180, servicing and repairs are below £300, so that leaves an awful lot to fill the gap.
Am I to assume this is the cost per car, or cost per family? What kind of car is it based on and does it allow for more than one car?
My other half's 306 (V reg) has what I assume is an infra-red remote key (the one with a red light next to the buttons). Batteries have never seemed to last very long, but the ones I replaced last week have already failed. There seems little point in just putting in new batteries every few days.
Questions: Is this a fault with the key I can rectify myself? If I buy another key from a Peugeot dealer does it cost an arm and a leg? (I presume a new key can be programmed to the car's sensor.)
Any other thoughts gratefully considered. Read more
The imobiliser works off either the keypad or the transponder key.
The alarm isnt connected to the imobiliser, so it is possible to start the car with the alarm armed if you can disarm the imobiliser.
Thought you might like to know that I have a new Panda and it's absolutely brilliant - fun to drive, economical and looks good! Any other fans out there? Read more

Buying on ebay: All is now clear! After completing their rather long registration process, (name address, credit card details for verification, etc) and getting an acceptance, the buying procedure is explained. In this case I can pay by paypal.
