Hello All
I have just picked up my new Golf, had 2 others before and although the stereos wernt the best selling point they sounded half decent, this one looks really flash but sounds terrible, it is supposed to have 6 front speakers, but there is no bass at all and if you turn it past half way it distorts!
Its got to go back already becasue of a continual overheating fan and wondered weather it was worth mentioning about the stereo? wondered if anyone else had found it poor?
Regards

i need cover for 18 days from middle of next month -
AA - £79
RAC - £70
Green flag - £39
Direct line £66
or, I could take out 12 months domestic breakdown with 'First Call' - £63 or Morethan £69 or DB at Axa - £85 - all of which offer 'free european cover'
I know you should read all the small print, but getting the policy documents for all of them and comparing everything will take more patience than i've got.
Any suggestions, recommendations or warnings ?

You could also try Britania Rescue, which is owned by CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association). Its cheaper if you actually join CSMA, and you don\'t have to be a civil servant to join, although there are some restrictions. They are at www.csma.uk.com .
Or any non-turbo car sound like a turbocharged one. See the feedback at the bottom from the satisfied buyers.

I've just been reading the Speeding thread.
Speed is a factor in a large proportion of accidents, but it's not speed per se that's the problem. It's inappropriate driving behaviour, including failing to match speed to conditions (including the weather).
How about compulsory re-testing? I'm unsure what the test itself should be - but say a mixture of urban and extra-urban driving, judged against a set of standards. Failures to undergo some compulsory re-training?
It would cost a lot to carry out and administer, but if it makes for better driving standards, that's fine by me. Drivers should bear the real cost themselves - they owe it to themselves, their families and their fellow citizens. Would create a load of new employment too.
It seems daft, today, that you can pass a driving test at 17, and that's you enttled to drive (apart from on health grounds and motoring convictions) till your dotage.

Afnoon' everyone,
What're your opinions on this type of device: www.ethosplan.com/empfuel.asp - I've seen adverts all over the place for similar magnetic devices that are supposed to be clipped over the fuel line and will increase the fuel economy... The theory behind it sounds dodgy and if it was worth fitting, wouldn't manufacturer's put it on as standard?!?
Any thoughts, good or bad are appreciated :-) Read more
Dont worry - already suggested it to all the major companies -
Shell seemed most interested, and are passing it to their marketing dept.
We will see what happens.

If it were a hoax, would they really call it H20EX?

Frankly, I don't think it is any madder to spend 1.2m
on a floating bus than to spend 7k on a brand
new Fiesta...

Its £1,193,000 madder. It looks about as much fun a cross chanell ferry. I'd much rather have an Aquada.
Now that Kwik fit have destroyed the website - only has a branch locator - does anyone know the current cost for a filter & oil change (semi syth will do) for a 1.4ltr petrol brava?

Hi all,
I've decided to change the already worn down brake pads on my Mark 4 Fiesta and have purchased some new ones. However, it was only when I got them home that I realised I knew nothing about changing them!
I do want to do it myself as I want to be more mechanically minded. Does anyone know the basics of how to change them please? You don't have to go into Haynes Manual details as I reckon if I was pointed in the right direction I could do it. WHat tools would I need as well? A torque wrench perhaps?
Many thanks in advance

"Hmm - they've still got meat on but they've bound" whatever the hell that means. I'm guessing they've not worn then? Have I bought new brake pads for nothing?
This is mechanic speak for.
"still got meat" means "in my opinion they are not yet worn to the level where they need replacing"
"the've bound" means "the brakes pads are sticking in the caliper so they will wear wear out quicker"
All of this means, you would have to get the pads out to clean the caliper and pads and generally free it all up anyway, and while you have the pads out you may as well change them. So no you have not wasted money on new pads. Because they were binding, dont just change the pads, clean the calipers and sliding faces as well. DONT USE OIL.
Hi,
I went to buy a pre registered motor last night. We did the deal and then right at the end the guy says would you like to pay for six months or a years road tax?
On that basis am I within my rights to cash in the remaining tax on my current vehicle?
Is the old tax disc usually part of the deal or is it "a bonus" for the trader?

When selling privately, you can be sure that any free money on the windscreen will be taken into consideration. When trading in, you might as well leave fivers on the passenger seat. Your car may be off the road for a few months, so I would regard unused tax as recoverable expenditure - unless it is explicitly included in the deal.

on checking the cdr 200 it isnt the best player on the market and has a lot of faults.one is sound quality.but isnt made by philips/marantz.but as has been said you can get an adapter kit to put another unit in.
