Imagine the driving test you'd need to be able to drive/pilot one of those.

Hi,
Recently bought a vectra estate and have a couple of questions.
When starting from cold, theres a noise from the engine compartment, sounds like a pump, quite noisy, runs for about a minute or so, only from cold, doesn't do it from subsequent restarts. Also the radiator fan comes on rather more than i thought it should, even when the engine doesn't seem to be particularly hot.
Should i be worried about the pump noise?
What should i check for regards the radiator fan, (radiator water level is fine)?

Thanks.

DD, your right, mine does kick in at 90 degrees i've just had a look, and thanks for letting me know the fans not on all the time with a/c on.

OK, a challenge for the Anoraks out there...

Which model of car, available in the UK has had the largest number of engines fitted as standard?

Capacity, no. of cylinders, turbocharged or not, all to be included as seperate engines.

The Ford Granada MKIII (inc. Scorpio) must be a hot contender.

IIRC, they also made a rally version with two of those
engines bolted together (although possibly doesn't count as a production model).
I'd love to have heard it, though...

the two 3 cylinder engines were mounted transversly, ahead of the front axle, which made it a bit difficult to steer !
IIRC from an article in the SAAB owners club magazine many years ago, it was known as 'The Beast', still exists in the museum at the Trollhattan factory, and perhaps not unsurprisingly, only ever had one outing on the proving ground. The test driver was 'reluctant' to have a second go

Question Jeep Backlight
cassy

Hello this is my first post and hope i'm in the right place LOL!
On my Jeep my quarterlight l think it's called.....the plastic bit,has a small crack and hole in it,the light itself is not broken.
Well l have found out to replace it,it will cost me £110,which l find rather steep as it's only the plastic bit that needs replacing and not the whole light.
Can you help please.......thank you. Read more

I mean the cluster on the tail gate of course.

Just been looking at an otherwise fine 93K W124 280TE estate but the drivers seat back will push back on its own if force applied otherwise OK. Sounds like something worn or worst case a breakers visit for a replacement seat - anyone come across this before ? At 140k its probably not surprising but how much to budget for a replacement seat plus fitting - £200 ?

I always get people blocking my driveway and it is getting annoying really.

Anyway, a visitor next door parked over my driveway again today. No need for it as there was plenty of room in the road.

After 5 minutes I knocked and, very politely, asked them to move as I was going out shopping.

The visitors said OK as they were leaving anyway.

I went back indoors to get my coat and wallet.

Couldn't find my wallet, so wasted a bit of time finding it. Which I did after about 5, maybe 10, minutes.

Then there was a knock on the door. It was next door effing and blinding that I asked their visitor to move when I wasn't going out straight away. Couldn't get a word in edgeways. His wife joins in the abuse.

Anyway, he gets more abusive and threatens to damage our (new)block paving.

My wife blames me for going next door and asking them to move. We have been in this house 7 years, these people moved next door last year.

I really fear for our safety and wife is saying I brought it on us. We are expecting a baby too.

What would you do about this?

I was very polite and reasonable, certainly did not deserve this. Read more

But Mark please lock the thread as soon as you can.

Mark's busy warming up his Land Bruiser to go around Clariman's house to tow away any further offending vehicles. Once he's finished having a smoke, he'll be on his way. In his absence, I have locked the thread.

This one has me foxed, but I'm hoping someone out there has the solution..........

SWMBO reported unusual drumming noise (and it has to be bad for a report from her) at around 60-65mph, which continues up to about 75-80. The noise reverberates right through the car and is a bit wearing after a few minutes. It is not the normal shaking/vibration of an unbalanced wheel, it's at a higher frequency, a booming kind of drone. It's the same in 4th or 5th. Engine as sweet as ever, revving freely and pulling well. Road surface is not the answer - it's the same for all types. Exhaust not blowing. Wondered if a wheel bearing might be going or, alternatively, perhaps a drive shaft? Has only covered just over 70K and has been carefully looked after.

All thoughts from any BX experts out there would be appreciated.

CG,

I would start with a close inspection of the tyres as suggested, looking for lumps or flat spots.

I have just had similar problems with my Xantia. I changed a rear tyre that had a flat spot which improved things a bit. I eventually discovered a load of play in a track rod end. Having changed this 99% of the vibration and all the noise has gone. I think a CV joint is on the way out and is causing some vibration, which was being massively amplified by the knackered track rod end.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

I\'ve a newish Omage 2.2 DTI that\'s had misfire below 2,000 rmp for the last 10,000 miles. The dealer has tried everything to cure it (new ECU, remove and flush fuel system etc) and I was on the point of getting rid of the car.

At the last visit they said avoid BP fuel, which as it happens I almost always use. Something about a high bio-diesel content and a known problem with Ford diesels. I was fairly sceptical as I thought diesel was diesel. Anyway, I\'ve just filled up with a tank of Shell and it\'s like a completely different car. The misfire is competely gone, it\'s quicker and a lot smoother - I can hardly believe it - I\'m almost beginning to enjoy driving it once again

Has anyone else out there has similar experiences with BP, Shell or other brand diesel. It\'s mostly BP round my way and I\'d be interested to hear anyone elses experiences. As I said, I thought diesel was diesel, but it would appear not.

I run a megane 1.9dCi which seems to run better if I avoid BP. I get less knock and smoother running with Shell or Esso. I don't know the make up of each brand of fuel but there must be some significance in these findings. By the way my old Land Rover runs perfectly well on BP so perhaps it just does not like some modern engines.
