I have a Peugeot 306 XSi 2.0 8V 1997. It stalls whilst the car is warming up. Once the engine is at normal operating temperature it doesn't stall. I have replaced the stepper motor and engine coolant temperature sensor with new replacements. The engine fault light does come on now and again in no set pattern

I have been informed it might be the MAP sensor or the oxygen sensor or even the ECU. I have not had the fault code read yet, and appreciate that until this is done it's finger in the dark time. I am trying to avoid going to a garage/main dealer because I'm wary of being ripped off.

Thanks in advance.

Hi can anyone tell me where the rest of this thread is?! I read about
20 posts then joined and they have mostly disappeared!

You sure it was this one, and not a similar one? Try checking your internet history file to see if you can find it again.

Hi,
I've got a L-reg rover meto 114 si auto which was passsed onto me by my grandmother who decided to quit driving. Its brilliant although a little heavy on the steering. It is my first car.

Only problem is that it seems to have developed a problem with juddering! It seems that especially when it warms up, that when it comes to a stop (at traffic lights for example) the power to the wheels stops completely (while still in drive) and then with a touch on the accelerator its bites in really hard and the car jolts away. The other case is that it judders after this inital bite. Its an absolute nightmare in a traffic jam?

Can anyone throw any light on this problem? Read more

So much for German engineering.

I think a fair bit of the engineering on these was done by Rover (particularly the input clutch).

CVT's have a very chequered history and I would not entertain owning one for the time being. They may come good one day, but I remain sceptical.

Trade this car in against something safer and more reliable.

Objections to unmarked police cars thread

I\'d like to hear a comment from resident b-i-b (serving and retired) about the above thread.

To kick it off, my own views.

HJ\'s comments justifying it with \"anything to improve observation\" made me laugh rather cynically. Sorry HJ.

Contributors regularly bang on about wanting more traffic units on the roads to catch the errant motorists. Crime cars etc excepted for obvious reasons, do people not understand why unmarked cars / bikes are used for traffic?

Despite the fact that some drivers don\'t appear to see a fully liveried unit when it is right under their nose, I\'m sure that most people recognise that such a marked vehicle is surrounded by an oasis of improved driving standards. Removing anonymity will reduce their effectiveness.

So, personally, I object to that thread, but I don\'t expect many will agree, not that that bothers me.

(Devils advocate mode = on)

This house suggests that maintaining a register of unmarked police vehicles could be interpreted as obstructing the police in the execution of their duty\"

Just for the record lets keep it off the speeding issues, we\'ve done that issue ad nauseam.

Had a forum serach but couldn't easily find this - are there people who will buy specific cars for you at auction, and has anyone here had any experience of this ? Read more

"I presume you have to go to pick it up from the auctioneers yourself that day."

I bought one through Julian Trim and he delivered it to the door (40 miles or so from his office) for an extra £30.

Thinking about sourcing a LH drive Golf 4 TDi from Europe, a couple of years old, from a place where I know I can get them VERY cheap ! (answer, if you're wondering, is Sarajevo - there's a VW plant there, and all Golfs built are tax-subsidised; plus the locals don't earn much...)

Apart from the various import/tax etc things, what are the issues with getting a LH drive VW serviced here - are any of the bits specifically for left-hand drive cars, and therefore going to make a cheap to buy car expensive to run ?! Read more

My boss has a LHD Laguna II registered in the UK. He says its a pain MOT time (headlights are still LHD), and pays more for the insurance. No other problems reported.
Whats funny tho is his wifes car is a RHD Avensis. What do they take on holiday to France? You guessed, the Avensis!

Yes, six of them plus a bonus ball, ranging from numbers 1 to 49 ;o)

The glasses guide site now charges and to be honest, their valuations tend not to take into account regional variations.

I have to dispose of a 5 door Nissan Almera GLX Auto, with all the trimmings (EW air con sun roof etc) as the executor of an estate.

The car is a T reg (1999) has done less than 23,000. I believe it was first registered in Ireland and brought over to the UK when it was a few months old.

It is in very good condition with a good history (I'm not sure whether or not the service history is a full one or whether it is a bit patchy. The last owner did not run it on a shoe string.

Having looked around I am thinking in the region of £3,500 to £4,000. Is this about right?

It's a different planet. I watched it for the first time this week, but unfortunately fell asleep before the end. No reflection on the programme, I was tired.

That man could carry a HD under each arm. Would anyone risk incurring the displeasure of the boss? I thought he needed to employ someone else to man the phones & run the business and confine himself to building bikes. Maybe the beuraucrats were kept out of camera shot, awaiting the flood of orders once the series was aired.

The Yanks get 'American Chopper' and we get 'Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares'. The world just isn't fair.

When i was in Aus, my wifes cousins husband (?) had one of these (Holden of course). Couldnt get a drive, because his broken down Imprezza was in the way on the drive waiting for a lift and shift to the dealer.
