I\'m sure that the driver joining the roundabout has to give way to vehicles already on the roundabout.

However, the last few years, it seems frustrated drivers now are playing \"chicken\" with drivers who are already on the roundabout. If I join the roundabout on the inner right turning lane, with a view to coming off onto the nearside lane to turn left immediately after the roundabout, I often find my way blocked by a driver who assumes that I\'ll go into the offside lane as I exit. They seem to be daring me to just barge into them.

I assume this is just laziness/frustration, but it\'s annoying

The introduction to the highway code covers the use of "MUST" (and "MUST NOT"). These are only used where the rule is specifically covered by a law. If you fail to follow these rules you are committing a specific offence. "SHOULD" is used where the rule is not covered by a specific offence. If you fail to follow these rules you could still be committing a more general offence, such as careless driving. Hope this helps.

Hi,

The aircon on my Rover 220 turbo (petrol, 1995, Japanese version although never made it to Japan) is a bit limp. It basically works, but the air is only cool, not cold. On really hot days it doesn't keep the inside of the car all that cool.

My previous car was almost identical - 1994 UK version of the same car - but the aircon on that was really cold. On its coldest setting it was uncomfortably cold, even with four people in the car, on a really hot day.

A garage had a look and said it was running OK but may as well regas it. They did that (and broke it in so doing, but that's a different story) and there's no change at all. They said it tested OK - down to 2degrees, whatever that means.

There is no problem with airflow (no pollen filter on this model, for example), and plenty of coolant. No overheating or other odd temperature behaviour.

One thing which has been suggested is that the old car may have had the "old" type of refrigerant (whatever that is), and the new car a different, less effective, type. I'm not aware that the old car ever had its refrigerant replaced but the new one certainly has.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks DL, I'll have a look. The engine bay is so packed full that you can't see the condenser at all easily, but I'll try and work out which pipes go where and see if they are as you describe.

Thanks,

No both of them are normally aspirated diesels. In the car book
they have same number of hp. Somebody told me that the gas pump (bosch pump) needs to be "kalibrated", but i'm not wery happy about someone doing that. Thank you for replying this message.

Mrs O is looking for a new car. We've driven the Focus 1.6 and it seemed ok until we drove a 147, which seems a much better car. We've now read the car-by-car breakdown (oh how aptly named!) and she's taken fright. The dealer was also only offering a 30 day warranty, which I didn't think you could do nowadays.

So, she wants something with a bit of poke, but no more than a 1.8, practical, economical and not too large. Doesn't matter whether it's petrol or diesel, 3 or 5 doors. Budget £8k ish. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Just wondering if anyone can help.

On our A4's climate control is there anyway that we can stop the climate control from increasing the strength of puff as it gradually works up to the temperature set.

By this I mean that we set the blower at its lowest setting but then we keep having to turn it down as the car turns it up.

Not a problem but just bleeding annoying! Read more

It has auto and manual and seems to have a mind of its own on both settings.

I have a 5 series and the fan just sticks to the setting you choose and gradually increases \"puff force\" as it heats up until it reaches the setting you have chosen.

G Plate 1.3 Polo Sport. My son tells me after he changed the rear wheel bearings that there were no automatic brake adjusters in the rear drums. Is that correct. The MkII golf had them and the later Polos 91/2 on. It appears, he says, to rely on the hand brake adustment to take up the wear. Regards Peter Read more

My 98 Ibiza has trouble in the mornings. It starts first time, every time, not a problem. But when I go to blip the accelerator, it stutters, then either dies, or roars into life and away I go.
If i start it and leave it idling for a couple of minutes, it pulls off fine. Minor point really, but I don't want any future problems, plus it doesn't look good if I wanted to sell it.
Any suggestions on why this happens? Read more

Is it a petrol or diesel?

The radio in my ZX is working fine, except that there is no illumination behind the liquid crystal display panel. It is just possible to see a very faint display, and the details it produces are correct.

Is the display lit by small bulbs, like the clock is? Can I dismantle the radio to replace them? If so, does anyone know how?

Citroen 'own brand', original fitting.
Thanks for the advice. I may have a go this weekend. Sounds like the front panel and display are just plugged together, not permanantly fixed?

Question Mondeo noises
Yoby

My (new shape) Mondeo has an uneven tickover shortly after starting (waiting in traffic for instance). The revs seem to pulse almost as if there is a pump or something under duress. When the engine has been running for a bit it is fine. Also when revving the engine in the drive I have noticed a slight bang/pop sound that comes from the air-filter area just when the revs return to idle speed. I don't know whether this is just the exhaust breather system doing what it should do. There is no noticable change in fuel consumption or anything.

Any thoughts? Many thanks. Y Read more

the mk2 mondy had a pulse air system for the exhaust and at low temps or after start up it would allow air to be drawn into the exhaust manifold to help with low temp running. i know that if this (or various other bits of the emmission control systems) goes wrong you pretty well get the systems that you say you have and all it takes is one faulty solenoid or a split rubber pipe and you can get all sorts of strange uneven running problems.

Mr Fox

Hello,

I wonder if any of you have experience of this, A Vauxhall Frontera 2.0 " SPORT " which refuses to start ONLY when the cabin is warm, other times it is fine, but if left in the sun, it will turn over as normal, but refuses to start, if I leave the windows open, and let the cabin cool down, the car will start without any hesitation. Is there a known fault ? where should I start to look for a bad connection ?

It is a 1994 L registered car with 88 000 miles.

cheers !

If the immobiliser is anything like the one in my Chevy, then the engine wouldn't turn over if the key wasn't recognised. Same thing would happen if it was a safety interlock which was my first thought.

This problem sounds like the key and interlocks are OK but the ECU isn't providing spark or fuel.

You can check the spark by pulling a plug lead. A screwdriver stethoscope might tell you if the injectors are working, if you can get to them (I don't know the Frontera engine.) It won't tell you if there's any fuel getting into the cylinders though.
Could it be that fuel is draining from the fuel rail and 10 secs cranking and a five minute wait re-primes it?

Aprilia is on the right track though with his hairdryer suggestion, if it's definitely related to cabin temperature.
