Question 1997 VW Passat
Wee Willie Winkie

Evening All,

Ny Passat is making strange noises between 1800-1950rpm in any gear. It's like the normal engine noise just louder, I guess with more resonance. Please, does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks.

Forum Water pump
how

Hi all just bought a Peugeot Speedfight 50cc moped. But I have a problem, I need a new water pump on the cheap. Where can I purchase one from?

The Peugeot dealer wanted £70.00 for a water pump.
I need one on the cheap, maybe half the price! Read more

I have lost the adapter for my anti-theft wheel bolts. I beleive that the garage may have it still as they changed my brake disks and pads and disks 2 days ago. I am going to ring them tomorrow. If they say that they don't have it what options do i have ? (i'm afraid i do not have the code card number either).

Most(manufactuturer type)dealers will have a full set for the cars they sell;they should be able to undo it and tell you what replacement you need.

Difficulty in starting when cold, need to turn ignition key for 30 seconds for engine to catch, then splutters and pops before eventually running (30 seconds). Once warm starts fine. Plugs, distributor and leads replaced. Any clues? Read more

Single point Injection?

Check the temperature sensor is connected (underside of the inlet manifold)

It's hidden and is easily forgotten when refitting the cylinder head.

Hope this helps - DL

Hi, My Berlingo van fitted with an XUD 1.9 Diesel smokes alot on start and the exhaust is very sooty. Once warm it runs fine. Has anyone similar experiences and what did you do to cure the problem. The engine has done 70,000 miles and recently had a reconditioned head, new gaskets etc. Thanks in anticipation Boop Read more

Well that is my thought too, but I was primarily curious as to why the head was pulled.

I was impressed and found myself scrolling down making noises of approval until I stopped and thought "this is a garage" which is exactly what it is.

I'm not jealous - honest!

New Porsche disks cost £27,000 and don\'t really work!

{link temp removed. DD}

The Porsche Ceramic Composite brake system fitted to 911 GT2s does not really work very well, the disks crack and cost £27,000 to replace..

Talk about overengineering....

Oh! Thanks...

well sorry I cannot paste a link but here it is..in cut down form from EVO magazine... and reformatted ..
www.evo.co.uk you'll have to register.. (free and back issue data so worth reading..)

Porsche claimed that each PCCB disc would offer 'a service life of approximately 300,000km (186,000 miles)'.

Many Porsche owners - who either bought GT2s or paid the £6000 option price to have the PCCB system fitted to a GT3 - are finding that the discs and pads don't last . .....Replacing four PCCB discs and pads costs over £27,000 !!!

(I did not believe it at first but I assume when fitted they were made as part of a large production batch ordered by Porsche. replacement I suspect are produced to order in small batches.. and a HUGE markup (bit of a captive market altho they can switch back to steel disks...)Basically Porsche are saying "switch to steel disks but if you must force us we'll make sure we make a big profit".

Does anybody know of any good books that have the theme of cars or the car industry?

Do any authors specialise in motoring fiction?

Can anyone tell me what size the sump plug is on a 97 Vectra 2.0l diesel, that is,assuming it's an allen key?

Buy a new sump plug.

These often require a chisel to remove them.

A decent set of Torx drivers (Teng Tools) cost me £22 the other day.
