Fiesta 1.8 LX diesel.
I just changed the hand fuel pump, primer pump. The car is quite hard to start after an overnight wait unless i prime the pump a few times then start no problem. Its like low fuel pressure which would indicate a leak somewhere but the bolts were all tighened properly all seals were oiled and added so i cant see where the problem might be ? Read more

OFT stops servicing scam
Car owners are now free to choose where they service their cars thanks to a campaign by the Office of Fair Trading.
The OFT had identified 11 manufacturers whose warranties forced motorists to have their cars serviced at more expensive franchised dealers. These restrictive clauses, which affected 49% of new cars sold last year, have now been removed following pressure from the OFT. This could save motorists up to £500m a year
Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Citroen, Ford, Mercedes, Peugeot, Seat, Skoda, Smart and Volkswagen have fallen in line with the OFT\'s call, although strict conditions on the quality of the work by independent garages remain.
DaimlerChrysler, for instance, insists that work is done to an \'excellent\' standard and uses approved parts for the warranty to remain valid, while BMW says servicing has to meet certain guidelines and use parts \'of a similar quality\' to its own.
The OFT says that the quality of work provided by independent garages is as good as that offered by franchised dealers, however, as well as an average £83 cheaper at £116.
A leaflet called ?Buying a new car?? to help motorists understand new car warranties has been produced by the OFT and is available at www.oft.gov.uk

The diesel engine fitted to the new Accord is a Honda unit, not Isuzu. If Honda can create a smaller range of diesels which are as good, then we are in for a treat. Imagine a car as good as the Jazz fitted with a top class diesel engine.
The remarkable thing about the second item is the number of people who have viewed it - in excess of 15m!
Our Jazz will require new pads at only 30k anyone recommend replacements which provide a longer life?
Civic pads in the past have lasted up to 60k
Also any tips in fitting the pads ? at 1st glance the caliper needs to come off
As a pensioner I have no desire to pay £60.00 per hour at a dealer

FYI,
I have made all the mods and it made a hell of a diffence. My MPG did not really suffer either, unless I decided to really wind her up.
Smoke, it took me about 30mins of shuttle runs to find the best mixture, she smoke a bit (not heavy) @ about 4750rpm+.
also, if you 'potter' then boot it, there is a lovely cloud.
Hope you mods go well, and keep me informed on the suspension rattle.

Anyone care to tell me the Americans know how to style cars after viewing this? (1997 Buick Riviera). Saw one this evening in white (there's a US Marines base nearby) and nearly soiled myself laughing.
As if the exterior wasn't grim enough, check out the dashboard!!!
On the plus side, also saw a 1990 Alfa SZ. Yummy! Read more
Along with Aztek add the Mitsubishi Tarmac Spyder. They both look as though the designer went off for a boozy lunch and left the apprentice to finish off the drawings.

how big a list would you like.2 x 3.5 ton ifor williams trailers often fully laden. 2.8 ton for the swb certainly no match for defender at 3.5 ton towing (also looked at change here defender won).just not worth the hassle if stopped, Localy the water board are charged with 2.2 tons on a trailer behind a transit with towing capacity of 2.3 tons but the trailer was only plated for 2.0 tons. as the trailer is underweight for the plating requirements they could simply have taken plate of to comply with the law .they now carry fuel and buckets in the transit. anywaythe point was that with several vehicles of this type it helps if they all have the same abilities .I still liked the shogun though
Hi, me again! My 96 laguna has stuck in 3rd gear a couple of times on the open road (seemed to be after shifting down). It resets itself if I slow down and it selects second, then it'll be fine. Any ideas?

I'm astonished that it was worth shipping a '96 Laguna to NZ. Can't be that many Renaults there - when I was last in NZ everybody seemed to be driving Subarus, Toyotas and Hondas (in fact don't Toyota have an assembly plant in Thames?).
Anyway, "Renault" and "automatic" are not words that sit nicely together (rather like "dog" and "dirt"). Reaching back into the recesses of my memory I seem to recall that Reanult had a problem with a seal failing on the 3rd gear servo piston and sticking. I think the seal is not available seperately, so the whole assembly has to be purchased - not cheap. I would guess that this is the problem. Anyone with a bit of experience in rebuilding Renault 'boxes should be able to confirm. Try sending an e-mail to ATP at Hednesford, UK, they would probably be kind enough to give you a reply.
I've got a misfire in a '96 laguna v6 - it is intermittent and when it happens it is usually at low throttle pressure and goes away at about 3000rpm. sometimes it's so bad it'll not get to 3000 rpm! it happens for maybe 10-15 minutes (car is hot or cold doesn't seem to matter) and then it'll be fine for a few weeks/months. Renault London reckoned that it was a split vaccuum pipe confusing the Engine management but the problem is still happening after a new pipe. renault Auckland (Yes,the car has moved from London to Auckland!) reckoned it was the coils, but 3 coils later and it's still happening. Any ideas?
PS. I was the kiwi asking about the heater matrix but have moved from the Uk to Auckland NZ.

I have a 1999 Astra 1.6 Dualfuel which has started making a strange noise on acceleration. Whenever I accelerate in gear or rev the engine in neutral a quite loud constant ticking sound occurs. I've had the car almost two years but it only started making this noise a week or two ago. The car been around a bit (106,000 miles) but has a full service history.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? The service is due next month but am I risking engine damage driving it in the meantime?
I'd be very grateful for any help.
Cheers, John Read more
Same but different if you see what I mean. Open up the bonnet and blip the throttle while concentrating on the manifold area. on the 8v its more likely the studs are loose or the gasket has blown on the downpipe but this would give more of a parping noise than the tick you describe. Relatively inexpensive repair.Manifold crack more expensive obviously (£150-ish)

Simplicate and add lightness!!
Why did you change the Hand fuel pump, any problems? That maybe linked to your problem.
