racingkarts

my freind bought a 03 plate 1.6 astra club from an unnamed major firm, it'd done 5000 miles.

1000 miles later the head cracked.

he was given a new car.

here's where is starts.

what they gave him was an 03 plate 1.6 astra , with 20000 miles on it. the gearbox crunches 2nd and 4th - it burns 2.5l of oil in 1000 miles, the pedal box is knackered !!!! incase u can't guess it used to be a learner car. !!!!!!!

only thing is someone dented it badly with a car door.

where does he stand in getting a new car ?????????????? Read more

bsm change the cars after 9 mths or 16500 miles whichever is first.

hi, help !!!!!!

after a accident with a kerb, around 30 mph, my car\'s bodywork was repaired at a local bodyshop.

unfortunatly, now there is a knocking noise - if i jack the car up and spin a front wheel, there is a loud cyclic clunk from the diff housing !!!!!

both wheels make the noise from the same place - is this normal for a clio - 1.2 t reg 60000 miles Read more

Hi, if the box is the same as a megane, when you pull out the drive shaft from the box, there is a large circlip inside the box which breaks up, get a new one from Renault and stick it in.
good luck.

Casually browsing through www.newreg.co.uk , I spotted an item implying that Q (number) (letters) registrations are to become available.

Any of you backroomers ahead of the game on this?

I thought Q was an unthinkable letter, apart from use on cars of dodgy origin. But is it being allowed back into the fold, rather like Z?

And anyway, what was so bad about U suffixes and prefixes that they couldn\'t be allowed? Read more

Forum Overtaking
Ppaul

It might just be a local thing (I'm in delightful Staffordshire ;-) ) but I have been involved a couple of the following incidents recently:

While overtaking (not recklessly and just the usual 45mph in a NSL zone drivers) and coming alongside, the vehicle in question has 'drifted' to the centre of the road thus making me drive in the gutter to successfully overtake them or else cause a collision.

I'm familiar with those individuals who like to accelerate whilst being overtaken, but this 'drifting' is new to me and IMO really dangerous for both parties involved and potentially other oncoming vehicles.

Is this a recent thing or have I just been overtaking the sensible drivers for the last 10 years? Read more

Ppaul, in their opinion, you are probably, unknowingly, tailgating them or passing too close to them when you overtake, they think you are encroaching their bit of the road that they own.

Hi.

I've got a couple of questions I thought you could help me answer.

1. What’s the best wax to use with an electric polisher? Using Turtlewax, I tend to put too much on. If I don't put enough on, the polisher vibrated so much it makes my hands go numb, so putting more helps it 'glide' better but puts it on so thick, the buffing mitt can't remove it.

2. Therefor, is there anything I could do or use with the wax to make that little bit easier?

3. Lastly, after the car was clean, the bumpers looked dreadful. So, I put the usual WD40 on them, which has been working really well for the past 6 months, bringing them up really black. But this didn't work, in fact it did the opposite, making them go grey! Using Simoniz bumper black (both spray and liquid) and Armorall did nothing but make them streaky. So, I had no option but to remove all of the gunk from over the years. Out of the three products I had, spray "Simonize back to black" worked the best. BUT what do you think is the best for reviving black bumpers.

Any thoughts

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, Do all your plastics and bumpers first. Then you can polich the car. This prevents the polish from contaminating the plastics making it resistant to bumpers type treatments.

Forum Tyre Wear
Durelli

Hi,

I have a Volvo V70 which as recently started to have excessive tyre wear on the outer shoulder of the rear tyres. It's like you get on front tyres after knocking the tracking out after kerbing it etc.

It's on both the rear tyres though.

The Tyres are Pirelli, they've done nearly 50k miles, but the wear as been all even until recently.

Any ideas on what's caused this? Anyone seen it before?

I have to buy tyres to replace them, any pointers on which tyre to replace them with.

regards

cheers

Posted on the other board re a vectra I purchased last weekend.53 plate nearly 8k on the clock. Its going back in to get a few niggles'sorted'.

Ive noticed that the rear brake discs are scored also very slight lip on them, which suprised me due to the age and mileage of the vehicle .The front discs are fine as are the pads front and back.Raised it with the dealer and he stated the scoring was due to rust!! I ran my hand over the rear discs on a nearly new Astra and likewise slight scoring.

Is this normal,if it is due to rust then why arent the front scored as well?..or is it actually down to normal wear and he's feeding me bull.Should I insist they are changed?

When GM discs are new, the friction-contact area is honed, so I assume it would wear down quickly as they bed in.

A friend of mine is looking to buy a new Corolla, and has been informed by his local dealer that the colour and model he wants is in short supply due to a facelift/model change in July. He contacted Toyota who said they were not aware of any change.

Anyone know who is correct? When I was thinking of getting a new Vectra Estate, Vauxhall informed me they were not aware of any new 1.9 diesel engines, despite having read about them in the Telegraph. Read more

Try the heading for the Corolla rather than saloon. Facelift
is just that, the face. Saloon or hatch, the front
is the same.

[pedant] actually, in this case it ain't quite the same :) [/pedant]
Anyone aware of any significant differences between the Saloon and Hatch
apart from the sticky-out bit at the back?

difft grille -- not sure abt other bits. But saloon built in Turkey (hatch in UKania), so presumably there is scope for further divegence

I think this thread has gone far enough. You have been warned about the scams, don't fall for them.

I'm not sure how many times people need telling about the "nigerian" scams or the "give me your bank/credit card details" scams, but given the number of fools still falling for it, I guess that point hasn't been reached.

Nonetheless, this is a motoring forum and whilst I shall leave it here for reference, it really isn't the approriate place for discussion.
