Hi,
I am considering purchasing the 225PS Leon Cupra R. However, I cannot find a dealer anywhere in the London area willing to negotiate on the £18,015 asking price. Has anyone had a positive experience with a SEAT dealer or trustworthy importer who will negotiate?!
Also, I have heard that an all new Leon will be coming out later this year. Does anyone know if the NEW Leon Cupra R will be worth waiting for? The SEAT dealers I have spoken to say better to buy now as new one may take at least 18 months - but call me sceptical, aren't they just trying to make sales targets now?

I had an evil thought today, following a van with that question on the back, with an 0800 number to 'phone.
How about setting up an 0906 number (£1.50 per minute), then putting it on one of those plates on the back of your motor and going out to deliberately upset a few people?
Actually, I wouldn't have to do it myself, I know a few people I would pay rent to put it on their cars!

A year or two back I was driving through Ferryhill following a local council van with planks of timber on roof bars. As the van hit a bump, two of the unsecured planks reared up and windmilled across the road in front of me and swiped a small tree near the footpath before settling in a cloud of leaves and splinters. I flashed my lights to try and flag the van down but I didn't want to get too close because there was still some timber left on the van's roof. The van turned off in a few hundred yards so I reported the incident to the local council transport manager who said he would deal with it. Later I got a call at the office to say the van driver had received a written warning. You don't need an 0800 number to report carelessness or stupidity.

Stranger in a strange land
I've become quite used to cars hogging the middle lane. I almost enjoy coming out of hibernation in the inside lane, clipping their rear bumper as I go to the outside lane, and clipping the front bumper on the way back.
I'm not quite sure though how to deal with a new phenomenon - that of cars hogging the outside lane. If I'm cruising merrily in the inside lane, and there's nothing between us then the best solution appears to be to stay where I am to go past. Anybody else noticed this? It seemed to be much more widely done on the A1 than the M1. Read more
Actually, I should admit that my permit should really say 'I share because my wife works here too, and it'd be really stupid to get seperate cars', but it's not terribly catchy I'll admit.
Hmmm. I think I might be in danger of taking this thread off-topic. Sorry.
A friend has got a N Reg Rover 600 that suffers from a knocking noise when turning tight or continous right turns (eg roundabout). He says the noise is coming from the right hand front wheel area and is a continual knocking (variable with speed)
I have had a quick look underneath, but could not find any visible problem. Has anyone got any suggestions at to where to look?
Many thanks. Read more
Quite often a worn CV joint will not exhibit any external signs of wear in terms of excess freeplay etc etc
It would be best to find someone in the know and ask them for their opinion before you start paying £££'s

groups.msn.com/honestjohn - Pictures say a thousand words.....
Having recently increased my life assurance I thought I should get value for money and start cycling part of my commute into central London. I plan on dragging my bike on the overland sections of the tube (so White City or Finchley Road in my case) then riding the final 6 miles to just behind Tate Modern. This should
a) Return me to my previous levels of fitness, much blunted by my sedentary commutes of the last 12 months
b) Give me the heightened senses of a meerkat on amphetamines
c) Leave me squashed under the wheels of a burning bendy bus.
I'm fully aware that I'm taking my oh-so-fragile life in my hands but figure that if a bus doesn't squish me outside St Pauls, it's only a matter of time before Al-Quixote (or what ever they're called) bury me along with several hundred other commuters in a mass grave on the Jubilee line.
Any guidance/comments/experiences appreciated.

Cycle lanes? I'd prefer to just hang a target on my back than use some of the laughable examples I've seen in London. Share a stretch of road with Buses and Taxis? Well, we all know what virtuous drivers they can be.....
Mini Cooper ad. This appears for a fraction of a second, and then goes away. Now I don't want one, but I probably would click on it if it ever appeared.
Landrover ad. No way of getting rid of it until it decides to go of its own accord. Very annoying indeed! Read more
Errrr I see it for a split second & then it disappears. More annoying if I'd paid to put it there (and not have it seen) than having it inflicted on me. It does come up rather often though.

Shows, how out of touch i am

Came off the M4 at Junction 11 (Madejski Stadium exit) and turned South on to the A33 yesterday (Sunday) at around 14:00.
There is a big roundabout on top of the M4 then you drop down on to a dual carriageway and the road curves to the left then straight on to another roundabout at Three Mile Cross.
As there is a dip and a turn a section of the road ahead of you is obscured. The guy in front of me indicated right and moved over, didn't think much about this except that he was probably turning right at the roundabout ahead, then a police car came in to view. It was deliberately parked in the obscured section so you could not see it from the roundabout on top of the M4. It had lights flashing so it wasn't as if it was parked dangerously but it was an odd place to be.
It was a full spec. Omega and had a camera mounted on a black pole on the rear drivers side. It looked like the kind of thing that could be mounted/removed quickly.
Came back the other way 30 minutes later and it was still there.
Now, the camera I assume was a numberplate recognition device and I assume it was parked in such a way that you could not see it from far away and avoid it but it all seemed highly curious.
If we have anyone from the Thames Valley force posting on this board could they advise what it was doing there? Read more
I posted a thread before, and concluded that I was able to use car engine oil in my scooter which has a dry clutch. My mechanic also confirmed this.
However, my manual says I must not use an oil better than CD and must be better than API SAE.
I currently use a semi sythetic, and want to continue to use the same but in car oil form. I would prefer a 10W40 OR 15W40 oil.
Which oil make and type would be recommended in my case? Can I risk the castrol magnatec.
Also, considering my manual tells me not to exceed CD spec, what would be the consequences if I did exceed it.
Thanks again for all your help.

You don't have clutch slippage to worry about so buy your choice of car oil in the recommended weight and use it. Mineral, semi or synthetic it won't matter in your case.
I was reading a motorcycle publication and there was a very upseting article. I will write it as it is published:
\'The RIDE report on road tax and poor roads which made me very angry. Last month there was an incident near my home, in which a 16 year old lad was riding his scooter along a busy road. His front wheel hit a pothole and he lost lost control. The scooter slid across the road under an HGV and the lad was killed.
The next day the council were there, filling in the holethat caused the tragedy. Surely, the same money that was readily available to do the work just 24 hours later, had been available before the accident? It makes you think: is it due to lack of funds that these thing s don\'t get sorted out or the can\'t-be\'bothered factor?\'
And this article followed:
\'One way to help out with the pothole situation is to notify the council. This will achieve two things:
1. It could make them liable if someone has an accident as a result of defective road surface they were aware of.
2. Becuase if this they are more likely to rectify it (especially as we approach the end of the financial year when they have to spend money or lose it)\'
\'Top idea. You can find your councils\'s number in the phonebook. Give them a buzz and ask for the highways department\'
I am sure we are all aware of the many places where there are potholes and defective road surfaces, so if we all did something by making a phonecall, perhaps more would be done to make the roads a better place.
It is important to note that out of the road tax we pay, Ride found only 16% (approx) is actually spent on the roads. The rest is spent elsewhere, which means the money is there but is spent in my opinion fraudulently on something else. It is odd that if we give say a shop keeper a pound, they are legally made to give us the items we pay for. But we pay road tax and the authorities do not even have to spend it on the roads. Apart from potholes, most roads carrying HGVs are now badly tramlined, especially where the road is narrowed adjacent to islands.
In wet weather there can be over an inch of water in these with the risk of aquaplaning increased.
On a motorcycle or scooter the tramlines can throw you off course and onto a potential collision path.
A recent post on the SeatCupra board mentions a price of £17200 from seatcarsdirect - links as above. Obviously you'll need to verify this -sounds like as good a deal as you might get if supplies are restricted.
