I need a new sensor for my Honda, and the dealer wants a small fortune. Bosch do a range of universal ones that you splice to the original plug. Anyone had any experiance of these? Read more
While driving on the M4 today I followed a peugeot 206 for a number of miles with its brake lights illuminated. This is the fourth 206 I have seen with this problem over the last few months.
I reckon it is a serious enough safety defect to warrant a recall, I don't know if any Peugeot owners are aware of one. If not, all 206 owners please have your brake light switch checked! Read more

Hi everyone.
Well, like many people here, I\'ve found this site because of central locking problems!
The infra red has never worked so everything I\'m talking about is using the key in the lock only.
I changed the radiator last weekend. It involved disconnecting the battery. When I reconnected the battery -everything fine BUT when I tried to lock the door -all 3 locks LOCK then UNLOCK straight away.
I know that the wiring looms from strut to door are common culprits but I\'ve examined these and they look A1
I\'m sure I remember having a similar problem a couple of years back and I solved it by fiddling with fuses etc. Which leads on to my next question;
-what the hell is SHUNT? In my Haynes manual fuse 8 and fuse 23 are SHUNT and I have no idea what this apart from a mix of two popular words uttered whilst trying to figure out my locking problem.
Any ideas?

I doubt it is the fuses. Probably a break in the latch sensor wiring loop somewhere. Most likely in the door conduits. Try my workaround (link above), then you will know for sure.
My wife's focus (1.6LX 99V) has had a hesitation for some time. It started as a hesitation when applying throttle from a 'trailing'throttle, ie when changing up a gear for instance. I drove it yesterday for the first time in a while and discovered it is now very much worse and feels as though there may be a fuel starvation problem. I saw a posting some weeks ago about this which suggested that there is a problem that Ford dealers are aware of and that the problem is the fuel pump. I spoke to my local Ford dealer at the time and they suggested it was likely to be HT leads! Can anyone please confirm the faulty fuel pump scenario
Many Thanks

Well ,er indoors was sent off to buy the new plug leads which I fitted yesterday morning. Result not a thing. So I rang up the Ford dealers and quizzed them about the possible fuel pump problem which all Ford dealers are supposed to know about. After I managed to get past the usual 'I recommend you book the car in with us sir' the guy suggested it was the coilpack. So I purchase and fit a new coilpack (which should have taken me about 30mins tops but involved a considerable struggle with 4 corroded in T27 torx screws) and ''Fantastico''. We have what feels like new car. Hope this helps

I was getting more and more annoyed at these sexist adverts for a certain sparkling motor insurance provider that only deals with women. I decided to put *exactly* the same details in to their quote engine and that of their parent company with the exception of sex of course! The result? I got a quote £26 cheaper as a man than a woman.... False advertising? Sexism? You decide.... Read more
My wife obtained three quotes from companies that offered special deals for women where she stated that she would be the only driver. Without exception they were considerably dearer than the likes of esure and morethan who included me to drive the car as well. I vaguely remember some newspaper articles recently exposing 'women only' insurance scams.
I've done about 1400 miles in the A3 now, and all round its a very nice car, but the economy seems a little on the low side still, the only way to break 50mpg is to do less than 70mph at all times, whereas the Passat has no problem breaking 50mpg on a journey. Except the passat has the old 110 TDI and 5 Speed box, while the Audi is the new 2.0TDI. My brim-to-brim average is about 43mpg currently, wondering what any other figures are out there. That's a mix of town and distance driving, about 50/50.

Have a 320td which should be comparable to the A3 - long term average 49.5 - 50.5 in winter drops to 48.5 using a/c in summer (I'm in Spain). Not much town driving but plenty of low gear mountain climbing.
I am thinking of buying a new car for the first time in many years and am a bit confused at the various options. I would like to get a Ford focus LX and keep it indefinitely. Have been offered good prices by the likes of Virgin for full UK specification which are well below What Car Target Price. However I have also been offered a new import from a long established Ford dealer for about £1000 less than the Virgin price. Will only have a two year warranty and though not to full UK specification the missing bits are not important to me and as i will be keeping it for the long term the normal re-sale considerations are not really relevant. Are there good practical reasons why I should avoid an import of this type?Any guidance would be much appreciated.

by brother got a new corsa for 34.5 k on import.
think it came from denmark.
He is keeping his forever, the only diference seems to be
an opel badge.
Did it come with one, or three yrs warranty?
For 34.5k, I would hope it was hewn from solid gold and came with a ten year warranty!
I seem to be suffering a fair share of following drivers trying to bully their way along by flashing and waving arms etc. I don't consider myself a dawdler but like to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front and show consideration for other road users. There seems to be an increase in tailgaters ..and no...I am not one of the dreaded middle lane hoggers. What do you think is the correct response to this mini road rage? it is very tempting to give a rude sign but I suspect the tailgater may not appreciate it. Read more

We are going on an extended (6 weeks trip) to Europe fairly soon and I'm wondering what to do about the dipped headlight business.I'm not planning to do any serious night driving, but there is of course the requirement to use dipped headlights in bad weather and tunnels. Years ago I tried various stick-on gadgets which didn't do much, and then for some years I didn't bother with anything, but now I have growing guilt feelings when I visit the AA and RAC etc websites. I've got a Mondeo TDCi which has electrically-operated headlamp adjustment, but it also has plastic lenses (but not HID or Xenon lights) which I'm worried about sticking things on to. Anybody got any thoughts/suggestions, please? Graham

Graham, I went to my main dealer and asked about this last year. They produced a photocopied document which showed how to set up the Mondeo headlights - they provided a template which showed the area to black out and I did this using masking tape - came off easily at the end of the trip.
However, having gone through all that hassle I was more than surprised that the vast majority of GB cars in France just hadn't bothered...
I've still got the document somewhere & I'll use it again this year...or maybe I won't...

What exactly is it? Manufacturers appear to offer it as an alternative to leather, so it must be a premium product, or is it?
I know it has the appearance of suede but it is a sythentic substitute after all. Anybody got it on their own car and is it durable? Read more
Dave,
My V70R has alcantara seats, do a search here as we discussed this recently. It's the best seating I've tried, as it is less cold and less slippy than leather. Seems perfectly durable.
