Depending on the model year this car may have a motorised throttle, ie drive-by-wire. Common complaint is crud and dead bears around the throttle butterfly. Careful cleaning usually effects a cure. Throttle body failure is regrettably common with this system

I am having a problem with my 1998 1.6 Cordoba Vario ( 58k Fsh ) . The car miss fires/hesitates intermittently whilst driving along, particularly up hill. This happens at any temparature and at any road speed. So far my Seat dealer has replaced the HT leads , the distributor cap , drained the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump relay , all to no avail. Can any one help Pleaseeeeeeee? Read more
hi there i am haveing the same problem with my seat cordoba 1.6 sx and i have replaced lead air flow secor ht leads ever thing like that but still can find the problem part from it stoped for a little bit when i changed the distributor cap but has now started agin did you sort yours out ? .
I've owned the above Jap import for about 1 year and have been very pleased with it and would recommend it.
However, it appears to have a fault which no garage or petrol-head friend has been able to diagnose.
The car always starts first time, runs great, and has never broken down.
The car is a 2.2 diesel turbo: when the turbo is demanded a green light comes on in the dashboard to indicate normal turbo operation. From a cold start, the green light comes on & off as normal for about 20 minutes / 20 - 30 miles of driving.
However, then an orange light (next to the green turbo light) comes on and stays on: I think this might be a turbo failure indication light. When this orange light comes on then the green light stays off. I think the turbo is not working at this time: possibly there is a slight power loss (but I am not sure whether or not I am imagining this).
This condition will remain for the rest of the journey; but the cycle repeats next time the car is used.
I expect to have to pay to get it fixed; but when I've taken the car in for service (including at a Toyota main dealer) the garage people say they've found nothing wrong; probably because they haven't given it a long enough road test. Because the condition doesn't seem to be fatal; I don't push the issue.
Can anyone advise me? Thank you in anticipation.

Hi folks,
have been caught in a bit of a dilema and thought so much about it now that I cant make a decision.....
While driving along a motorway, I pulled out to overtake a skip lorry, as I was about to pass it while in the overtaking lane a large metal object flew off the back of the skip and damaged my bonnet and windscreen. I stopped the driver on one of the off slips where he denied anything fell from his skip. I called the police who only were interested in ensuring details had been exchanged.
Driver phoned company boss who allegedly said the matter would be sorted out.
Next day I phoned company boss who said his driver said nothing fell off the skip and I was trying it on. I explained I was behind the skip and was in no doubt that the item was carried off the back by the wind. incidentally skip was loaded on lorry with the low end to the front which in my view allowed wind to help the oblect take flight.
I enquired how he could be so confident, he said he could account for the content of the skip and there was nothing missing. I asked for his solicitors details which he refused, I assured him he had not heard the last of this and hung up.
I notified my insurance company for info only at this stage, then about an hour later the company boss called back saying he didnt want any hassle, he wouldnt admit liability but told me to get a quote for the repairs. Explained liability was not at issue I just wanted my vehicle repaired.
Obtained quote which came to just over £700 quid. New bonnet and windscreen required. Phoned compnay boss, who said it was too expensive, I offered to take windscreen on my insurance which would only coat him the £50 excess.
He said I'll send you a cheque for £200 and that will be the end of it. I told him that was nowhere near enough, but I would let him have my decision after some careful thought.
This is where I would appreciate your collective views and experiences.
A. Should I pass this to my insurer as a claim (protected full no claims bonus) and let them pursue this idiot for recovery of costs. If I do this surely although my no-claims bonus is protected the premium will be loaded up as they ask if you have any accidents claims or convictions in the last 5 years.
B. Should I accept the companys £200 which will pay my £100 compulsory excess on my policy and may also be seen as an admission of liability by my insurer, who i'm sure will accept the other £100 as part settlement of the claim.
C. Should I pursue this idiot through the small claims court and use my insurance only as a last resort, however as it expires at the end of April, I would need to formalise my claim via insurance asap if the civil action failed.
D. Take the companys £200 and fund the repairs from my own personal wealth.
If there are any other options which you are aware off (they must be permissiable under law) I would willingly consider them.
Enduring the 'joys of motoring'.

That's fine, Ox, but it depends on (a) whether the company relly are 'experts', and (b) whether it may cost you the same or more in the long term to let them do it. It's only too easy to take an entrenched position on principle, and find that small costs escalate. And money is what it's about, isn't it?
Anybody know of an insurance company that does not require a credit card for the deposit? I'm tearing my hair out trying to get insurance for our latest banger. We have never run into this problem before and had insurance for years. This is now cancelled as it was for my husband's van business that recently folded. We want to pay by direct debit only. Is this so odd? There must be many people out there without a credit card surely. Is this why so many people drive without insurance? It seems that the big corporations want to make criminals out of us if we don't conform to their idea of 'normal' Read more
i did mine with cis over the internet without a credit card perhaps you could try them
An uncle with a 1982 SAAB 9000 has just driven a fair distance to stay the night, and on arrival proclaimed that a few miles from arrivel his clutch started to fail to disengage.
Stopping at traffic lights required use of neutral whilst stationary and then much pumping of the clutch pedal to get in to gear without having to switch off the engine and restart in gear.
A penny to a pound, from the symptoms, either the clutch slave or master cylinder (replaced only five weeks ago so a prime place to start looking for bad workmanship or faulty goods) are playing up.
I have never worked on a SAAB in my life however, so would welcome any comments from BRers before I roll my sleeves up tomorrow morning to try and fix it for him.
Apart from the fact that the clutch master cylinder will be the first thing I look at, are there any tricks I would benefit from, or known weaknesses to know, please?
Many thanks! Read more
Many thanks 659.
I have printed your advice and that of Mike H for my uncle to show to his mechanic tomorrow. Hopefully your neat trick will prove a low cost solution!
Will post the outcome here when I know what it is.
What's the best tale you've ever heard from 'the man in the Pub' about cars & their performance?
You know the one - somebody claiming such & such a car will get to 60 in 6 secs say, when you know for a fact they're talking bull!
Or all the police cars on motorways have tuned V8s in them...
A guy once told me that a Citroen CX GTi would out accellerate an E Type Jag. He wasn't even talking about the turbo model!

I remember being told by someone at the Motor Show a few years back that the Peugeot 106 Quiksilver was a limited-edition version of the 106 GTi. When I pointed out that the GTi was a 120 bhp 1.6 and the Quiksilver was a 75 bhp 1.4, he got rather irate!
Also remember being told by some random bloke hanging round the Honda bike dealer once that my Vision 50cc moped would do 75 mph with the restrictor taken off. Whatever you say, old chap...
