Question Slow A4 wipers
Dave Croker

I have a 99 V reg A4 Audi, and over the past few months the wipers have started to get slower and slower. This happens at both normal, fast and intermitent settings. I wondered if there was a bad earth on the wiper motor, but the motor is tucked away behind the ECU box and the servo, so I gave up trying to get my hands on it.
Any ideas?

Wish I had seen this discussion earlier , also had this problem but in trying to unsieze the spindle I broke the alloy arm now it may cost £90 to sort with new linkage so be careful out there .Might try s/h.

Dont Feed The Donkeys

Help or advice required...J reg Citroen BX 1.9 Diesel Occasionally lost power steering for a moment before returning to normal. The problem is gradually getting worse and worse, so much so that I am now only using the car to commute. Used to only happen at low speed / revs such as parking, but now happens randomly. Tyre pressures are ok, LHM res full and no obvious signs of LHM leaks. I dont mind getting my hands dirty but would like some idea what I should be looking for or what may need replacing. Any Citroen experts out there who could shed any light ? Any help or advice greatfully received.

Dont Feed The Donkeys

The LHM is not really that old, these Citroens seem to have a clever self LHM replenishing system. Just when you really need a reliable motor, usually at least 100 miles from home the car seems to know that the LHM is getting a bit old and ejects it all over the road / tyres etc and even has a clever red stop warning light on the dash to warn you that this process has taken place. Luckily Citroen had the forethought to make special storage areas under the bonnet to store a few spanners and at least two bottles of fresh new LHM.

Still not got the car back from the insurance company yet and will be trying the filters and Hydraflush options if and when I get it back.

When a car is at a junction, are you more likely to let the driver pull out in front of you if;

1, they are in the same car as you,
2, they are in a car you would like, or
3, you let anyone out. Read more

Hello Hugo,

Thanks for asking how I am! Not really appropriate for the forum though, so perhaps if either you or I asked the mods to forward an email address?

From this post I would like to tell them that it is fine to give you my addy.

To keep this slightly relevant - erm - I actually tend to be even more leeway-ish in letting out white van men types. Yes, HF is perverse. Not just the white ones (vans) obviously, but any workmen (or ladies) who it seems are working hard to do a job, whatever it is.

But I\'m also lovely in letting out anyone that I can, no matter who they are and what they\'re doing, as long as they don\'t pee me off by being aggressive.

Oh and go prepared for them to try, reasonably hard but not too hard, to sell you their warranty and finance and gap insurance. Just make sure that you have researched alternatives as it was made in a very take it now or never way to us.

They do let you have a look at any car you like for as long as you like before the very, very short test drive. They also have plenty of cars so go equipped with sandwiches.

Question A4 cutting out
gttrd

I have a problem with an a4 1.9 tdi cutting out when driven hard when the problem occurs the car will be hard started it will turn over for ages before going. the fuel filter was replaced with a new one.
The history of the car is that it was originally petrol and the running gear of a tdi se was put into it. the fuel tank an d lines are the original petrol ones but appeared to be the same. the vacume module behind the drivers wheel of the petrol model was removed go it is plumbed the same as the original diesel. i am wondering if there would be a difference in the size of the fuel lines even though they appear the same.
if injector cleaner or some other one of these products is added to the diesel it will run fine for the remainder of the tank.

Any one got any ideas all help would be greatly appreciated Read more

Question Golf MK3 'stat
Philiplex

I have a Mk3 1.8 golf which i need to change the thermostat on. I have purchased the stat but am a bit stuck on where it goes. There are a number of water pipes which come together around a housing behind the altenator. The question is - is it a case of taking the large rad pipe off and it goes in there somehow, or do i need to remove the altenator to get at a housing? I don't really want to go and buy a Haynes for something as daft as changing a thermostat!

Cheers,

Read Clarkson in the Sunday Times Motoring on the BMW 645i. First few para's were gross - about throwing up - this guy has run out of creativity!!!! Read more

I think he has done well to find such an apt description of the prejudice BMW drivers are subjected too, if a little too graphic maybe. It's a good article, and once he starts to talk about the car is quite informative.

I actually think his character as a presenter in general was much better suited to the 'Great Inventions' series, which i enjoyed watching

There has been, as part of the ongoing discussion on rustbuckets Fiesta replacement to have space to store his concept bike, various discussions on bikes. But I thought this deserved its own thread just for us all to reminisce (!) and say Aahh!

Mind you, £200???? Read more

Dynamic Dave

Apparently it is being made in Vietnam as they don't have
a factory in Nottingham any more!
Think they are milking the market though - £200 ??

Apparantly they're only making a limited supply, and David Beckam is paying £250 so that he can have number 23 (##) off the production line for Brooklin.

Hi there,

I've finally purchased a Mondeo. I collect my 99V 2.0 Ghia X on Monday if all goes according to plan.

It's going to need two new tyres in the near future though, so I intend to move the front ones onto the back and get new fronts. It takes 205/50/R16's, and currently has Dunlop SP Sport 9000's all round, which have alloy wheel rim protector things on it.

I've found these tyres for £87 at Mytyres, and the writeup on the test links they give make them sound pretty good. However I've been recommended Goodyear Eagle Venturers - and the writeup shows these to be even better. But, they dont have the rim protectors and it will mean I'll have different tyres front and rear. The Goodyears are £5 a corner cheaper.

What do you guys recommend? Any better bets to go for?

Cheers. Read more

In fact, asking for the drive away price and not caring how they do the math, can often result in a better quote first time.

As I can no longer use the phone (too deaf) to ring around I find this a useful tactic.

Have a 2.5TDI Caravelle at 76000 miles. Cambelt done at 60000 but still has original water pump. I gather that seizure results in destruction of timing belt and wrecking of engine. Is this likely enough to warrant planned replacement, and what will it cost? Read more

DL

Inline 5 cylinder engine? It's a shame the pump wasn't replaced when the belt was done.

It's your call really, it's not a particually expensive pump or belt to replace (IMO, anyway!) so you pays your money and takes your choice.
