Hi all,
I'm after some help / advice....
I have a Peugeot 106 XND which has a problem starting.
The car will usually start first time but is really flat. If I rev the engine just after I have started the car it can take at least 5 seconds to respond then sends loads of smoke from the exhaust. After a couple of revs the car is fine or if I drive it straight away it seems to slightly judder for a hundred yards but is then ok. If I turn off the engine and restart it there is no problem, it mainly happens after being left overnight or longer.
Has anyone else had this experience or know what is wrong.
All help appreciated Read more

Right, Jeep Wrangler it is then.
A designer from Wales has invented a rotary valve system, that he claims is such an advance on the current OHC design, that he claims all engines will feature them within 3 to 4 years.
What do you reckon ??

The article about this invention makes interesting reading. Until it is fully tested in a number of cars then driven at lunatic speed by msrs Jeremy Clarkeson and co it will be of no interest to no one. Tests have been done on a 'K' series engine but the hard facts are wooly. People need to see difference in mpg, 0-60, difference in co levels etc. I welcome improvements to the ICE and I wish the inventor good luck with it. I also look forward to reading about its improvement over the conventional ICE with great trepidation.

A friend of mine has bought himself a 96 Import impreza STI. These in japan, run on RON 100 unleaded fuel, the nearest we have is RON 97 unleaded. He has been advised against octane boosters as these in time will damage the cat and don't really do alot.
So to run this car to its potential it should have its ECU remapped or face a melt down pushing to a std. 280bhp.
Subaru UK don't touch them.
The question is who is the best to approach from experience. He has a couple of names, so he's comparing your opinions.
So who's the man??

Thanks Paul,
But one don't do it and the other only 98 on, and any earlier imports.
As of 1st January 2004 the legislation regarding tinted glass in vehicles has changed.
Forward of the B pillar, the degree of tint allowed (whether by way of laminate film, spray-on coating, whatever) is very minimal.
As I understand it, it will be illegal to sell a non-compliant vehicle, and existing non-compliant vehicles will be forced to be modified.
This move is attributed to a specific fatal RTA between a car and a bike, which was attributed to impaired vision on the part of the car driver. However I suspect there may be more to it than that in that the amended regulation refers to light transmission in both directions, i.e. inability to see into the car as well as out of it ...

I take your point that it is not necessarily unsafe to drive behind a vehicle you can't 'see through' GJD and IMO this aspect of the tinting question isn't the most important. However, next time you're driving in heavy traffic just consider how much extra, important information your brain is processing as a result of what your eyes can see through the glass of adjacent vehicles - is it clear ahead?, what are the cars in front doing?, is it safe to pull out?, is the driver in front on the phone, eating a sandwich and steering with his knees? etc. Of course normal safe driving behaviour is still vitally important though whatever the situation.
As regards being liberal - I really couldn't care less what people do with their cars as long as it doesn't put me/mine at extra, unnecessary risk. In the case of slight/ moderate tinting I don't think there's a significant risk. I do however think there is a very significant risk with some of the extreme tints commonly seen these days. Last night I spoke to a guy who lives around the corner and drives a large van with heavily tinted side windows. I casually asked him if they affect his view when driving and he said "oh yes, but if it's too bad I just open the window"!
Surely the point is that until science proves beyond reasonable doubt what is safe and what isn't who's to say what degree of tinting has a material effect ? If you wouldn't drive at night wearing sunglasses on the basis that it unnecessarily hinders your vision how can it be safe to drive a car with heavy tints under the same circumstances, even allowing for the fact that windscreens aren't tinted and it's only side and rear vision which is restricted ?
It seems at last that BMW have finally had enough of the horrendous recent designs from Chris Bangle and that he is leaving the company by the end of this year.
The nosedive in sales of the ugly 7 series on both sides of the pond, and the unwelcome customer feedback on the replacement 5 series has hastened their decision.
The recent facelift of the best selling X5 was to receive the full Bangle mis-treatment, but this was thankfully over-ruled by the BMW board.!!!! Read more
"You spend an hour with him, and you absolutely understand the
7-Series,"
Now, how many buyers have managed that?
Whent the 7 was launched, one BMW dealer insisted on giving 48-hour test drives. They (correctly) felt that customers didn't really appreciate the car until day 2.
Not quite an hour with CB himself, but enough to have made me want to buy one except for two small problems - (i) too large for my garage and (ii) too large for my wallet.
Im looking to spend 5k may be more for a sports car, ive driven new WRX'S, Civic type R's and like both anyone know of a similar car to these for the price range. I was thinking an old WRX or Accord type R.
The car needs to be reliable and "bullet proof" (hard wearing)
Suggestions welcome

No seriously. I really wouldnt mind knowing how its doing.
After their proposal to sell 'just' 20,000 and not giving discounts etc i'm really interested to know if its helping the ailing company out.
Hi,
Ive noticed over the last few weeks that my my car is making a funny noise when you raise the clutch.
Basically, when you raise the clutch when it makes this sort of 'cooooooeeeeee' sound - a bit like the noise a pigeon/dove makes.
Any idea what this is? Read more
Does sound like release bearing. Might be worth getting the dealer to listen to it if its still under warranty. Keep your ear tuned to it - see if it starts to get louder.
Hey,
I thought I would start a new thread which will hopefully last some time.
What was the worst car made within the last 10 years - so between 1994 to date?
This should be interesting....

Based on recent hire car experiences in the USA and Europe I have 3 nominations:
Chevrolet Blazer. Huge 4x4 with minimal interior space, appalling ride and handling, a dashboard made of recycled egg boxes and a lethargic and thirsty V8 engine mated to what seemed to be a 3 speed autobox. There was a sticker warning the driver never to engage 4 wheel drive on dry tarmac, though when I tried it out I couldn't detect any difference whatsoever to the driving characteristics.
Lincoln Town Car. A "luxury" car apparently but one with a creaky dashboard and uncomfortable seats that, contrary to first appearance, turned out to be leather not PVC. Once again the amount of interior space is out of all proportion to the road space occupied and the driving is characterised by what car magazines used to call "bump steer".
Vauxhall Vectra. I had one for a week whilst on business in Southern England and can only assume since there are so many in the UK that these things are very cheap to buy, as I can't think why you'd want one instead of a Mondeo or Passat. Various interesting solutions to nonexistant problems such as the notorious indicator and wiper stalks could not abate the overwhelming ordinariness.

It's the plugs. I've got the same problem with mine. If that doesn't work email me /ashley55522 at gmail.com/ and I'll ask a mate to see what he thinks.
