Question VW Passat 2001
wonderwheels

Could someone please tell me how to reset the service indicator that is displayed on the dash. Also, wher is the Pollen Filter situated? Cheers Read more

Malcolm_L

Pollen filter appears to be on the scuttle - passenger side.

If you are replacing the filter - be very, very careful when reassembling because if the seals aren\'t fitted correctly (which apparently is a real pig) water can find it\'s way in and leave the passenger side sodden.

This happened to me when my VW main dealer obviously gave the job to the work experience person.

Again I am going to demonstrate my lack of knowledge with cars by asking for som advice before i make a fool of myself.
Some of you will know that my husbands vauxhall carlton as been leaking coolant and the system has been massively pressurising 2 weeks ago the camshaft actually seized causing the camshaft to snap! The car had plenty of oil in it and the oil pump is working fine. At the time I didn't think they were related but again my knowledge of cars is quite limited so please help me out if you have an explanation for this. My Dad who is a mechanic has stripped the car down and as well as a new head gasket etc, he found the waterpump to be faulty. The bearing in the pump is very loose! However we had a new waterpump fitted in July by a mechanic(not my Dad)! Could this faulty waterpump have possibly have caused any of these symptoms/faults? I am really interested in cars particularly as I have a brother and Dad who are mechanics and over the years I have learnt alot through various problems with cars. So if anyone has any advice it would be fantastic. Read more

>>(However, in my experience thermostats usually fail open.)

That is a fair comment, but if the thermostat has stuck closed will cause the loss of water
as so said.thermostats that fail open.Means the engine stays cooler longer and means engine takes longer to heat up ie if running along a motorway actually will not heat up correctly
unless I read you wrong. And as a matter of interest why won`t the bearing cause the problem. It is the difference between a water leak and not.As the bearing also has the seal built in

OK - I thought my 'mechanical' skills were pretty good. However, with no workshop manual, and no clues in the handbook, I have failed miserably yo find the oil filter. Yes, laughable, I know. I have spent 2 hours lying under the car, standing over the car, removing as many components as I dare, but without luck. Can anyone help?????

Cheers

My father is visiting from Australia for 1 week in february. I have AA membership with myself as member and my partner as associate member on my membership. As i already have one associate on my cover i've been told by the AA i cant have another. Has anyone got any ideas on how i can get him covered? Read more

Whenever I've taken out breakdown cover I've never been asked for my date of birth, nor have I been asked for any ID when I've called them out.

As long as your father has you membership number in the event he needs to ring them, they I would think its safe to say that that would be adequate cover.

This van has basically given up on me - over the last couple of days it would sometimes not turn over when the key was turned. Eventually it refused to turn over at all. Attempts at jump starting failed completely, only a tow start got it going again. First thought was a dead battery, as the battery light would display curious behaviour - it came on with the ignition turned on, but would then immediately go out until the glow-plug circuit had switched off, and then it would come on again (very faintly until I recharged it). But changing the battery did not alter this. All I can hear is the solenoid clicking.

Before I remove the starter motor, is there anything else it could be? Read more

"So, what can we expect from 2004; Rover's centenary year? Well, one thing is for sure, it is not going to bring the RD/X60.
According to my sources, there was absolutely no activity on that front at Longbridge - even the robots had yet to be ordered (that is, by late December 2003), and following the abandonment of the idea of using some of the Rover 75's facility (subframe "stuff-ups", for example), it would seem that a hefty investment remains to be made."

"Accepted wisdom is that MGR now need to tie-up with its as-yet unnamed Chinese partner (Kevin Howe hinted this would be imminent) before the RD/X60 takes its next step towards production. Given a favourable following wind, we could yet see RD/X60 by the end of 2005..."

Reading the BA magazine on a recent flight, there was an item about 'buzz words'. The writer included a comment that in a US automotive engineer had said there are only two buzz words in his industry at the moment - China and India!

Perhaps Rover will surprise us all and are building a business that can survive in the long term.

If you check his previous transactions you'll note he is basically a car trader. Not necessarily a bad point but check out the car before parting with your cash. Also check your insurance, you may find this will cost you far more than the car.

I daren't make comment, as the only ones I can think of would be deemed political.

The Govt really are taking the proverbial now, and not even making any attempt at covering their dislike of the motorist. £5 on top of speeding fines to pay compensation to victims of crime?

Can anyone recommend a message board anywhere that I can go and have a rant on? Read more

As already previously mentioned twice in the last 16 hrs, and also moved to the appropriate speeding thread, along with the replies to this thread.
