Can anyone comment on this please? The company advertising in Telegraph Motoring have a good website about their TUV approved product with plenty of gushing testimonials, most of which seem to have been made soon after purchase. What I would be interested to learn is if anyone felt fitting one reduced their engine life, or was a contributory cause to other problems (I'm contemplating one for my Sprinter 416CDI). Opinions very much appreciated.

Diesel Car summed up a similar question, in their opinion chipping a turbo diesel would not do any damage to your engine unless you drove like a real idiot all the time.
I've had 2 cars chipped by upsolute with no problems. I find the extra torque allows me to change up sooner and save fuel.

Superchips do provide an engine warranty with their product, but are over £200 more expensive.

just trying to fit a towbar to a 1993 (K10) Nissan Micra and have found that the drop bar will not fit because it fouls the existing towhook on the car. I have contacted the towbar manufacturer and from our conversation I seemed to have done everything correctly and he states that there must be a problem with the car, he suggested that it may have suffered accident damage and the boot floor not pulled back correctly or the towhook has got bent. He suggested removing the existing tow hook with a hacksawn as it was only soft metal. Any one with any experience or able to offer advice would be appreciated. Should I just do has he suggested or get my money back from him stating that the product is not suitable. If I do this of course I'm left with no towbar and four 10mm holes in the boot. No wise cracks please about wanting to fit a tow bar to this little car as this is only going to used to pull a single bike trailer so I can get my "Honda Fireblade" to track days.

Sounds sensible advice, now where did I leave those bolt cutters....

Loads & loads of threads on how to prolong a car's life. However, it seems to me that very few folk keep a car for more than say 3 yrs, often from brand new. A quick trawl of neighbours and relatives reveals that most of them are rich enough to buy a new car every couple of yrs or so and chop it in, or they're on company cars - ditto. Why on earth would they bother treating the car with kid gloves , changing oil, coolant, brake fluid etc. Of course this may well be done for them under warranty etc. So, how long do you keep yours ? And do you look after it to prolong its life for you, or for someone else in the future ?? Read more

Done!
It is quite a good advertisment. It led me to the RAV4 advert, which is the one I'm interested in. The Corolla is a good car, but too small for my purposes. Read more

Is it just the number of "clicks" on an ad that helps the site or does it require further "interest"? If just clicks, perhaps we could all make an effort to click on a couple each time we visit Honestjohn's.

Does anyone know whether the Third Party Only cover provided by UK insurers for use in the EU is of an indefinite nature - or is it restricted to 'holiday length' periods of time?

I will be working in Ireland (Republic of) for the next six months, and would like to bring over my 'oldie but goldie' (car, that is!) from the UK. TPO cover would be fine, so do I have to inform my insurers of this fact - or am I automatically covered for this period?

BTW, insurance in Ireland is quite pricey!:-(

Cheers. Read more

On a slightly broader note it "should" be possible to get insurance from any company in the EU (free trade and what not) so it may be possible to get insurance in Germany or Spain etc. (good luck with the small print) Has anyone tryed this even if you only drive in the UK?

Question Hyundai Accent
uk2usa

Hi All, I'm new so let me know if i break a rule. I have a 95 hyundai accent with the 1.5 12v engine (104000 mi). Recently i have noticed that it spits coolant regularly from the overflow on the expansion tank. The engine is not overheating according to the gauge. I changed the rediator cap, which didnt help. It doesnt do it constantly, but if i drive the car for a while then open the bonnet there is coolant splashed around from the overflow pipe. Evenm when the expansion tank level is significantly low, the problem still occurs, so obviously there is pressure coming from the radiator which causes the overflow. I dont see bubbles in the radiatior coolant. Could the problem still be the head gasket? Fuel economy & power are both down and it seens to have a slight midrange misfire. Suggestions welcome.

Could well be head gasket causing pressure in coolant system which would acount for power loss as well.

Just got a 98 Audi A4 tdi, but am finding the accelerator pedal a bit light - ie it's making my ankle sore holding it midway! Is it possible to fit some sort of tensioner to make it stiffer - and is this a DIY or expensive dealer job? Read more

Doubt if you can adjust the spring at the 'engine end', but you might add a light return spring to the pedal spindle?

I have seen a new bus with LED light clusters, they change in intensity when the vehilcle stops to a quite accetable level, obviously buses are automatic, and dont have a handbrake as such.

Hi, Can anyone help/advise me here. My wife has a 1994 (L) metro 1.1s, over the past few years, we have been experiencing problems of not starting, the engine turns over ok, the strange thing is this, it only happens when the car has been driven for a while, then stops (engine off) my wife then goes into a shop lets say, comes out and it will not start, she waits an hour and it then starts ok.( she has to make sure she only stops the car once on any journey.
She has called out mechanics but none of them can find any faults, we have put it into a garage but again no faults found. The last time it happened i changed the distributer cap and rotor arm, it appeared to rectify the problem as she never experienced this for months, until the last time, i replaced them again but this time it has made no difference. Has anyone experienced this??? you would make me a very happy man and gain some brownie points with the other half.

The air con of our newly acquired Mondeo (2000 2.0 litre Zetec)didn't seem to be helping much with demisting today. Concerned I hadn't set it right I've just read the manual and it says 'the A/C system operates only when the outside temperature is over approx +4C' Anyone know why? I found the air con on our Peugeot very useful for demisting on frosty days! Read more

perhaps too obvious auto climate control is usually just set a temperature & forget it. If the temperature is close to its setting the compressor might not be on anyway. The other thing is that, in my Saab anyway, I have to override the auto settinng to select where the air is going. In many cars with this, including mine, there is a windows button which ensures that the air goes the right way and that the compressor etc is on.
