I needed a low mileage family size car for between 6k - 7k and have just paid £6995 for a W reg (2000) Vectra SXi 16V (inc mats and a tank of petrol) with 24k on the clock. It is from a well known nationaler dealer and has a 12 months Network Q backing.

Any thoughts?

Vauxhalls Network Q was one of only three manufacturers who got a full 5 star rating for their used car scheme in this months What Car (the others were BMW and SEAT).

So enjoy your car and be confident that you will have the required dealer backup if anything goes wrong.

I've recently had the filler cap to my LPG filler point nicked and I can't find a replacement (NB: tried going back to the people who did the conversion and they've gone bust).

It's got a bayonett fitting that looks very much like a conventional light fitting for a domestic light bulb - does anyone have any ideas as to how to get hold of a replacement?

Further to last answer, those screws are Citroen's favourites - they are NOT crossheads but a 6-point type allen key.

Hi

When I was growing up I really, really wanted an Isuzu Piazza because I thought they looked great.

I still think they look great and their rarity value makes them even more special.

The thing is that I've found an unmolested 1987 model with 6 months MoT, 85,000 miles, 1 0wner from new with Full Isuzu service history and lots of old receipts in excellent condition for about £500.

Would I be really stupid to buy it and just be getting myself a load of problems or is it a good car at a good price?

Thanks in advance

Chris

AN Other

Agreed - it's fantastic when you finally get to be able to buy something you've fancied for years, isn't it? Then again, there were cars I wanted when I was 15 which nowadays...

Hi everyone, hope you can answer this Q. I have aquired a car, part of a swap, the tax and MOT have both run out, (car is SORN'd) but now I want to sell it. How do I get the car to the garage without MOT or TAX? Cant get tax unless its MOT'd, can I insure it to drive to a pre booked MOT, or do I have to get a trailer?

Thanks in advance. Read more

I read about a case some time ago in which a local government worker (IIRC) successfully sued her employers for failing to provide the resources required to do her job properly. In a nutshell, she was being asked to do more than was reasonably possible due to staff shortages etc.

How does this apply to sales reps, couriers, delivery drivers, bus drivers etc, who are often put in an impossible position by, for example being given targets/territories which are totally unrealistic and thereby cause undue stress, effectively forcing staff to take chances (e.g. exceed speed limits) in order to complete the required task and avoid unpleasant consequences. Is there any sort of responsibility (duty of care?) on the employer to ensure a safe, reasonable working conditions for such people? If not, how long before there is and will this be a good thing? THe Growler

Middle East is a standard 6 day week. We used to work our delivery couriers 0730 to 2100 with 2 hours off in the middle of the day. That was the deal. But then we were all there for the money.

But don't get the wrong idea. Asia has well codified and defined Labor Laws, people just work harder as a rule because that's the ethic.

It's been suggested on another topic that 150bhp in a large saloon is a barely adequate amount of power. I drive a Saab 95 base model that happens to have 150bhp, does 0-60 in about 9secs. and has a top speed of around 130.This is better performance than most family cars and small hatches. I consider this perfectly adequate performance and wonder why anyone should need more? Read more

When I was much younger and I had Fiat Abarths, Abarth always stated the minumum BHP to reach 100 mph was 45BHP in a suitable car body, time was around 60 seconds if I remember correctly

Running on from the discussion in April on this site about the availability and high cost of oil for the VW PD Deisel engines. Apparently the correct oil (Castrol Synthetic 5W 40 conforming to 505.01) is available from Ford dealers in 5 litre bottles. The same oil is used in the PD engine Galaxy. The price is approx. half that charged by VAG dealers. Read more

Question VW Timing belts
BB

I noticed in Saturdays Telegraph in Honest Johns section that some poor individuals cam belt failed 10,000 miles after VW fitted it. The result?
Damaged cylinder head, pistons and valves.

Similarly, I had a cam belt failure on my 97 Passat (1 month ago) only 3000 miles after VW fitted it. The result?
Damaged cylinder head, pistons and valves.

It may be co-incidence, but has anyone else had any problems with cam belt fitting , or know of anyone who has?

Changing the pulley is one bolt. Changing the belt is a big job; just to get the bottom cambelt cover off means removing a large self-tensioning belt driving aircon, alternator. There's another smaller one for the alternator and I think the odd pulley has to come off too.

There are no cracks or splits. The one on the A6 looks fine - do u know something I don't about these lazy 2.8 engines? It doesn't spin anything like as energetically as the revvy 1.8Ts yet the 'experts' say 80,000 for both!

As a treat it got a squirt of belt dressing.
