Anyone have any ideas where i can download a drawing of a Mondeo turbo diesel engine- i would like to see what goes on in there before i start fiddling. Read more

How old is your Mondeo?

I may be able to help but, to be honest, it won't make maintenance or repairs any easier without detailed procedures to follow.

Hi,
I recently bought a 2001 honda civic. When I switch on the stereo I get an Error E message. I have the stereo code which I tried entering but with no success.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem without going to a honda dealer.

Thanks. Read more

Is it a UK built Civic (3 or 5 door) with the original built in unit?

If so, there was a problem with a batch of these from the supplier, after a period of time the unit will shut down and will not accept the code.

You will have to take the car along to a dealer, but they will replace the unit for you under warranty.

Just seen the pictures of the updated Freelander due in the Autumn. Looks really good, they've tidied up the exterior but the biggest change is the inside with a better dashboard and other modifications. Looks like the Ford influence is beginning to come through. Same range of engines includint the BMW diesel. Think I shall put my name down for one. Read more

I think (judging by the age of the post) that ccolcars4andy is refering to the new new Freelander, rather than the new old Freelander - if you follow.

Question Thule roof bars
roverman

I've just picked up a set of 2nd hand thule roof bars for my Rover 25. These did not have the correct fitting kit supplied with them so I popped along to Halfords to have a look for a kit. According to Halfords book, my Trad fit bars were not catered for for a Rover 25. Having checked Thule website however I found that the set for a rover 200 (up to 98) will do and I ordered these via Halfords. It may be worth checking the thule website if you have a similar problem for other cars, it may save you the cost of a new foot pack. Read more

Just back from hols where after queuing for ages in the stifling heat of Europcar's office in Nice I succumbed and allowed myself to be fobbed off with a Kangoo instead of a Megane/Xsara/normal car.
What a heap of doo-doo. There is nothing absolutely nothing good about this car, what were they thinking of by offering a plumber's van as a car?
You have to park about 3 foot in front of the car behind if you want to open the rear door and then you have to duck as it swings up and nearly chins you.
The handling is just insanely bad over 50km an hour and the 1.2 engine I had emptied the tank in about 400 km - this may have been due to the headwind which was all but fatal to a vehicle with the aerodynamism of a house brick.
The interior is like a time machine back to 1950 - not even a clock.
Is there a worse car on the road that is offered as a serious, practical vehicle? Read more

Hi,

I'm trying to buy a replacement car, and want to try and find a good private example.

I have the problem that I want to drive the cars, but despite having a fully comprehensive insurance policy i don't have 3rd party cover to drive any vehicle. I have called my insurance company (elephant) to ask to have my policy ammended, but they refuse to do it. elephant amusingly suggested i ask any seller i visit that they put me on their policy so that i can drive the car! when i heard that i couldn't help but laugh at the suggestion - can you honestly imagine the reception the average punter would give that idea??!!

Short of changing my insurance company, which is a rather drastic option, can anyone suggest a way to negotiate my way around this difficultly?

Incidentally I'm 24, have held a clean license for 7 years, have had no accidents, and have 2 years no claims bonus.

Cheers,

Fiestaman

David,

I hesitate to disagree but...

The DOC extension would need to be on the certificate rather than the schedule since it is extending cover under the RTA.

Qualification, clarification, restriction and classification to it would, if relevant, be in the policy, but not the actual establishment of cover.

I see in yesterday's Observer that HMG is considering compulsory tracking devices for all cars, ostensibly for congestion charging, but also to allow wholesale surveillance and automatic speeding charges (naturally, because it's "the biggest single cause of death on the roads"). The next extension to this is speed limiting, where "you won't be able to go faster than the limit, no matter how hard you press the pedal". Great safety measure, that!

How ironic that our new Orwellian future is being overseen by a man called Blair.

Better enjoy the present while it lasts... Read more

"compulsory tracking devices for all cars"

It's just occurred to me that it may not be all bad, as there must be some way of switching it off, and by then there won't be any speed cameras or patrols...
