Hi,
The last few cars I've bought are from Insurance Salvage Dealers with light, superficial damage, which I could repair myself.
Do these guys get the cars from auctions that non-trade customers can participate in?
If so can someone point me in the direction of such auctions?
I'd like to see what I can get for myself, instead of having to go through a "middle-man"
Thanks,
Niall

I travel fairly often for holidays and business in Europe (just got back from Switzerland and France 2 days ago) and always use plastic. I have never had a problem getting cash or using credit cards although I would agree with the advice of having more than one card and not keeping them in the same wallet just in case.
A friends Aprilia motorbike is fitted with a slipper clutch. Could someone tell me what is a slipper clutch?

Your HD comment is right on. I must be more gentle with mine or (unlikely) a better rider than than I thought. But then with all that torque available.... Agree about V-twins, would never have anything else. Unless is the '61 Bonneville I once owned. Even the little 750 cc Virago that honey-ko rides is a treat and very light and easy to handle. I have also heard bad reports of the TL1000 but that's never a bike I'd ride anyway.
Take off the plastic and it's so industrial-looking under there.
Please, can anybody tell me: Is the Champion F306 oil filter the proper one for Kawasaki ZX9R, year of manufacture 1998

I've just visited an alloy-wheel refurbisher and have a reasonable estimate for sprucing up the wheels on my MB E320 Coupé -- £52.50 + VAT per wheel. They advised me that a painted finish would be far more durable than simply redoing the lacquer-on-bare-metal original finish; there's no extra cost and only a slight difference in appearance. Any opinions on this?
Struck by an apparently rapid recent deteterioration, I discussed the present imperfections of the wheels and it was suggested that, apart from kerbing, one of the main sources of erosion is tyre fitters using air-driven wheelnut removers, which not only cause damage by knocking the edges of the nut recesses but also because the air can actually get in under the lacquer coat. Yup, I had two tyres replaced recently, with front and rear switched. Next time I think I'll take photographs of the wheels before the job is done. Read more
I have in the past used both coating methods. For the price you are paying they should be power coat and baked which if by far the best solution. Paint and a lacquer coat is Ok but is not as tough and prone to attack when refitting the tyres and post fitting regular cleaning. Shop around a bit to fine a good bead blaster and Power Coat shop. Knock on weights are a no no and a good tyre shop will still balance on the inner and outer, well 70% outer is required to fix a problem balance. There are also outer curved stick on weights if really required. Regards Peter
Has anyone got time to pen a couple of words comment on the ride in the Jazz with softened suspension - or else someone who didn't drive one before when they were bone shakers and has driven a new one in the last couple of months??

I test drove several small cars and without doubt the Jazz had the worst suspension set up. Maybe the one I tested was particularly bad. Believe me, it was awful i.e. boneshaker.
For a small family car it was too stiff, but for a sporty car....well perhaps you should buy a sports car?

Alf

jasp,
Search through some of the older pages under discussion & you'll find a thread I started a couple of weeks ago.
I recently installed a CDX MP40 HU in my Corolla. Problem is that its way down the dash behind the gear stick and is very difficult to see it. On earlier models of the Corolla the stereo is at the top of the dash. The stereo in a 2001 model is split with the tape deck at the bottom and the tuner moulded into the dash at the top. It is removeable but you need the correct adaptor to fit the hole.
Does anyone know of anywhere that an adaptor can be made so that a stereo can be installed at the top of the dash? Autoleads say they dont have one. Read more

But don't forget, when you come to sell on again, it's still a 'write off'!!
