I just pulled all the \"I have a question\" threads together.

Should I bother to do the same with things like the speeding threads ? Its a bit of hassle, but not much.

Opinions ? Read more

Is it worth archiving the closed threads and having a link to them in your opening post?

After standing in the sun all afternoon, mine read 106F, which translates to 41.1C. I keep it set on Fahrenheit because the metric setting puts everything metric. I can't understand litres per 100 Km. Of course the mpg figures are interesting too because they're based on US gallons!

Sorry, I'm rambling

help please
I have a four channel head unit, 4 three way speakers (one in each corner) and 2 tweeters (L and R at front). The speakers are already fitted in the car and the head unit is currently in my old car (which only had 4 speakers). How do I connect this into my new car?

I have been advised to connect the two front channels to a tweeter and a 3 way unit each in parallel but I have also read that this could lead to blown final stage transistors.

I have also been advised to connect the two front channels to a tweeter and a 3 way unit each in series but I have also read that this might lead to problems as the speakers connected in series will have passive crossovers wired in them and conneting in series would lead to frequency confusion at both speakers.
Is this correct? I confess to knowing nothing about car audio other than how to fit a chocolate block!!

would a suitable compromise be to connect the two front channels to a tweeter and a 3 way unit each in parallel but also connect a 4 ohm resistor in series with the parallel connections?

I got one recently, had similar problems. local ICE specialist ordered one for me-£3. Same sort of places sometimes do fleet installs and have loads of spare blank plates leftover...
Scrappy's might have one.

Anyone know how to clean up a mouldy dashboard?
Its a standard vinyl/plastic dash that appears to have a moulding effect on it that has spread across three quarters of the top of the dash. Its a grey dash, and the effect is light greyish as you would expect.

I've tried a standard car vinyl spray cleaner from a shop, but made no difference at all, any idea's people??? Read more

If it's really mould try Dettox Mould and Mildew Remover. Brilliant around the home, the bar I run and on the caravan roof after over-wintering!

Hey...

just installed a nice sony 4 channel amp and it all sounds nice and clear. Problem is I have lost all the bass which I had before I used an amp... even at the same volume I used to play it at.

any ideas? Read more

More than likely you have the hpf (high pass filter) on which stops bass getting to speakers. Turn this onto full range to enjoy the full spectrum of sound.

Of the last four cars in my ownership 3 were Japanese, all had recalls and all had warranty work, non broke down and i was happy with them all.
My present A4 has had not one recall, has had a headlamp bulb blow at 18 months along with a door switch for the window,also all four alloys were changed for minor (pea sized)corrosion. Otherthan that has been 100% reliable same as the Japanese.
So in summation i have (up to this moment)been happy with the last four cars. Previous fords Vauxhalls and BL cars have disappointed. All the cars had 3 years warranty.

Pop Will Eat Itself - I have "Dos Dedos Mi Amigo" plus another whose title escapes me floating around somewhere - on two sides of a cassette, of course. Haven't really listened to it since shortly after graduating in the mid-nineties (with over 500 CDs it starts to get difficult to keep up with them all, and the cassettes just gather dust these days), but I remember gems like "Ich bin ein Auslander" and something like "Familius Horribilis" (is that the right title?). Ah, student idealism.

Another throwback to my student days is Rage Against the Machine, which I dug out a few weeks ago and put on in the car. I have never travelled to work in such a short space of time! Not recommended if you want to keep your licence.

Cyrill666 {P}

Hello,

I'm about to change the front discs and pads on my 99 2.0 Di Vectra. I haven't yet bought the replacement parts but decided to check the disk dimentions this evening, when I removed the alloy wheel, I noticed a plastic spacer on the hub - it seems the diameter of the alloy 'hole' is larger than the diameter of the hub - is this normal? Where would I find replacement spacers?

As far as I can tell it's simply used to hold the wheel in position whilst the wheel bolts are inserted and tightened and wouldn't serve any purpose once the wheel was in place.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Hi Cyrill666,
After looking on the secound hand market for alloys, I've come across all kinds of info;
The hub spacers are VERY important, as the load of the car can only be taken on the hub and NOT the bolts - they are only there to hold the wheel on.
Alloys are normaly made larger to fit more cars, and come with hub spacers -either plastic or metal - to fit.
Have a look at this link for replacements, www.trackstore.co.uk/wspacers.html
You will need the original hub bore diameter and alloy wheel bore diameter to find the correct spacer.
