Hello all,
Being a stranger to these parts, I have noticed that quite a few police vehicles around the Orpington/West Kent area are painted silver rather than the traditional white.
They are proper patrol/panda cars with full stripes, markings and lights. At first, I thought that perhaps it was a Met thing, but then I saw a silver Terrano from Kent Constabulary.
It doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things what colour the police choose to have their cars - I'm just curious as to why they seem to have changed to silver for all their recent deliveries.
Cheers
Rob

Anyone know how to change Volvo Xenon lights from Righthand drive so they can be used in mainland Europe. Not in the manual and Volvo dealer does not know!!
Had an Omega and it was a simple switch in the back of the light.
Ideas welcome. Read more
Well for those that come across this thread the answer was more interesting than the question!
Whilst Volvo make "Beam Benders" they have a fault and the only way it can be done is to use masking tape in conjunction with the headlight adjuster at the dealer.
Of course this could be done by yourself if you have somewhere you can see the full beam and play around.
Because of the hassle I went through with Volvo direct and dealer the work was done FOC and took ½ hour.
I am looking at a car. The seller has stated 'There is currently finance on the car which will be cleared before the car is collected.'
any advice on what documents I need to see to know that all is cleared and the car can indeed be legally sold with no comebacks. I presume also that I should not part with any money until such documents are available?
Thanks

Thnaks to all who have commented.
Just to stir the pot a little, it is a Company (not a dealer) selling a 'Director's car privately'. In addition, the crashing depreciation on the car (the reason it is worth considering means that the selling price is likely to be considerably less than the finance owing (i'm surprised it was not a lease deal). In this case I would be writing a cheque/draft to no-one without seeing clear title cf they use my cheque to clear the finance and that's the last I see of any of it!!).
I would not be paying anything until I know the finacne is clear and then the car would be exchanged for payment. Would an HPI check (to establish only one interest) and confirmation from that Company that all is cleared be sufficient?
Thanks

Hi,
I am looking for a reasonably sized estate car - up to 20K tops new, which I am planning to keep for 10 years. I have narrowed it down to a Passat 130PD Sport, an Octavia L&K 130PD or an Accord Tourer 2.0 SE. I have not had a firm price for the Skoda but the other two are 17K to 17.5K. I have read numerous threads about the PD motor and wonder what people think is the best long term bet. As I plan to keep it for so long residuals are not a great issue, but reliability really is. I do not normally use main dealers so that could be a shock as well - or should I buy a second hand A6 Avant 2.5TDI - but I have concerns that would need to be a 40K example (for the spec I would like)and keeping that 10 years. Mileage is about 12K per annum.
I would welcome any thoughts - thanks in advance Read more
I have but SWMBO will not think about one - or a Ford so Mondanoes are out as well. We have had 2 Audi estates for the last 14 years (current a 2.6 - first a 2.2 5 pot) and IMHO the quality is not the same now as it was 15 years ago. There is so much choise part of me thinks just keep the old bus running for a few more years - but we fancy a change.
Thanks for the thoughts - time will tell I suppose

I thought you might like to see this.
It's nothing like as good as our own forum, but might interest VAG brethren. I know I'm not the only one here.

i have a 93 polo coupe 1.0 that drinks like a fish. The oil cap is all milky and i am guessing that there is a headgasket problem. Can anyone tell me if there is a way of confuirming that this is the problem, and does the head need to be skimmed or is it just case of having the gasket repaired ??

Poloowner,
My wife's Polo was losing water from the overflow and the cap was very stiff when undoing it. I cured both with some silicon grease on the 'o' ring and the threads. Hope this helps.

Hi All,
I have a 2001 Y reg 1800cc Alfa 156 Veloce. I have never been impressed with the Aircon system. On hot days I have to have it set on maximan and seems to take quite some time to cool the air. After driving 20 mins the car does start cooling down.
My Father has a Primara and my Wife a Citroen Xsara and both cool the air much quicker compared to mine. I did telephone the dealer and they hinted that all the 156's were like that.
Its a company car and I wondered if other 156 drivers have been pleased with the aircon or have experenced the same as me?
My car is black which does not help so the air con has more work to do.
Kind Regards

I also have a black 156 which gets hotter than the sun inside! My old A3 was like a fridge when set on low and I am very disappointed with the 156.
One thing I have discovered is that the air control flap under the silly centre vent, sticks. If you take the cap headed bolts off and try smearing some vaseline or something else slippy on the rubber edge of the flap then it at least opens when it should!
Has anyone had their air con re-gassed? Any better? How much?

Hi all,
Just got hold of a 00\' focus which has done 63k. I was just wondering whether I should go for a major service or just a normal service?
Can you guys tell me whats done on both services before Ford try to rip me off saying go for the 170 quid service or your car will fall to bits :)
A normal service is only 115 notes and wonder what you pay the extra for!!!
Cheers guys!

If you have an option on the Ford dealer then check the prices on
the Ford website. For example a three year service 2.0 Ghia - £220 local in SW London but £150 just 50 miles from me at Chichester.
Hi
Just bought a 1995 Toyota Previa, and I have been advised by a friend that the security on these vehicles are notoriously bad!
It has a standard (key in the door operated) toyota alarm & immobiliser.
I was wondering if what my friend was saying about the security is true, and whether it is worth fitting a clifford or similar alarm system to the vehicle.
Many thanks for any help.

How many people bother about alarms going off?
I'd install some active protection, such as a Disklok.
Bit of a pain having to use it, but you just know it's not coming off again without your key.
£79.99 at Halfords or £39 + Vat at Costco.
"..if you buy a white T5, you look like you're driving a cop car even if you're not"
Which will soon apply to silver ones!
