The Stig's cover appears to have been blown...
In today's Telegraph HJ's fellow columnist Anne Robinson writes about her forthcoming appearance on TG. Before driving her lap in the reasonably priced car, AR is given instructions by The Stig. She describes him as 'a very famous racing driver','quite short' and 'quite London' Surely this description can only refer to Johnny Herbert?

Some of you may remember I put a post on the site about being stopped on the M62 for speeding and then be allowed off in the begining of March. I had to produce my documents at the local police station and couldn\'t produce my licence (not needed in 20 years) and found to my dismay that the MOT had run out on the 1st of the month.

www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=2&t=11...2

I have now had a summons for the following:

No Insurance, which I had

No valid test cert, which I hadn\'t

13001 NSTD MCA Offence, I think its failure to produce certificate of insurance and a test cert.????

Driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, that I couldnt produce but was actually authorised for

Driver failed to produce licence to a constable. Which I couldn,t

All of the above has arrived some 3 months after the offence. Is this ok for these offences and if not, how long should they take to set them up.

If they are OK what are the penalties for the above? I have been summoned to appear in court for these later this month.

That seems like a good result under the circumstances. I am glad this has worked out okay for you. As I understand it, driving without MOT is not the criminal offense that driving without insurance is, so a fine might well be the end of it.

Question tyre noise
foxsilver

having just purchased a bmw 318i se w reg i am dissapointed by excessive road noise, more like a roar really, i have 195/65/15 dunlop sports fitted, is there a problem with this particular tyre or can someone suggust an alternative that is quiet running Read more

I also have this problem with a Ford Focus with Pirelli P6000 tyres 195/55/15. On smooth surfaces - no problem, but on course surfaces - which most are around here, the tyre roar is deafening. Although car only 9 months old I,d change these tyres now if I new of a quieter alternative.

Dear John.My subject is..can a 1.7Dt be fitted into a tired mk 2 1.8 sri engine bay ? If it can be done with nearly standard parts, GM 1.7 (is that the low pressure turbo?) or Isuzu 1.7 ? Will I need to swap driveshafts ? I dont think vacuum pump is a problem on either as this could be adapted.I would anticipate buying a complete donor, then doing the swap. PLEASE dont ask why - each to their own. let those without..cast the first stone etc etc ! If possible - are driveshafts/ suspension/engine and box the same in an astramamx as there seem to be loads of cheapies to choose from but only limited cavalier DT donors as yet.Yours seeking enlightenment !!

I can get an very good deal on a new car that I want from Motor Provider. I discovered then via the Auto Trader web site but I don't know much about them. They sound good fromtheir web site but I am cautious and want to find out about them.

They have 3 large sites around at Sheffield, Chesterfield and Mansfield and as far as I can work out they supply a lot new cars to Supermarkets. They are now selling direct to the public. Has anyone had any dealings with them or can give me some information about their reputation.

Thanks Read more

Hi all, i'm off to uni later this year after a year off in which i have worked a bit and dossed around a bit (well you've got to do it if the opportunity arises!) Anyway i have decided to give moving away from home, where i get everything done for me for free, a miss. Instead the student loan money is going to go on insuring a cool car for myself. I currently have a 98 Punto Sporting which i have had since November 2001. This has been a great first car. It is insured in my old mans name to keep the costs down. However when i turn 20 in November i'm going to get a new car and insure it in my own name. I was tempted to go for a 206 Gti but my brother has recently got a 106 and had numerous problems with it so i'm off that idea. I'm now lusting after the Renaultsport clio 172. I reckon that in november i'll be able to get a decent one for around 7k. Insurance will be around the £2500 mark. Does anyone have experience of this car and if so what is it like? Also i am open to suggestions for alternatives. The Imprezza turbo has been considered but would be far too costly to run. What do you guys think?? Read more

Like they don't know anyway when someone who insured one car for years suddenly insure two cars as main driver with a second driver of their just 18 son!

Hello all, I have a 1994 espace with a 4 speed auto. I do the servicing on the car without problems these days, Apart from the Autobox oil change, or anything to do with the autobox.
I cannot find any info in the two different manuals I have....it says give this to Renault.
Unless they have some Robot to do this it cannot be rocket-science. From what I have been able to gleen...it goes something like ...engine running/in neutral....let the oil dribble-out of an inspection hole at a certain rate. Anyone have the real info on this. Also any pointer to a real workshop manual for the greabox. thanks Read more

Am I alone in thinking that Pirelli P6000s aren\'t that great? I used to have four Michelin Pilot Exalto which were fantastic - best tyres I\'ve ever used but they\'re now discontinued.

Long story but old car got written off and new car (same as before, 99T Vectra 2.0 GLS) which I bought in March was fitted with brand new P6000s (195/65/15 VR), which I thought great because I\'ve heard people rave about them.

Well, they\'re certainly long-lasting and not too noisy but compared to my old Michelins, they\'re about as grippy as a greased weasel on a frozen lake.

I\'m no a boy racer but I do like to drive fairly quickly on the open road when there\'s no-one about but the Pirellis scare theout of me when they start to lose it on a bend.

Anyone know of a decent alternative to the Pilot Exaltos? Not time to replace the P6000s yet but I\'ve been thinking about Michelin Pilot Primacy for when I do. Anyone else have any suggestions? Read more

Hi there,

looks like Rob's already made his choice and can't say I know he's wrong. My car had four P600s and I found them great. Then one was replaced by a P6000 and it was not really compatible. last change saw two Michelins at the front - they were good.

Message - don't mix your Pirellis!
