My son has one of these electric jeeps which we bought when we lived in the US and then brought it back to England. It is basically the same as a UK model apart from different power connections and the steering wheel on the wrong side.
It has two forward speeds, 2.5mph and 5mph. This was fine when he was 3 but now he's 5 he needs a little more excitement in his life. Has anybody ever tried to take one of these apart and make it go a little faster ? Read more
Replacing the bushes on the Astra for MOT, I've managed to split the ball joint boot on the suspension arm/shock absorber joint with the forked seperator I've got. Am I being ham fisted or is there a method to use this tool without ripping the rubber boot?
Is the screw type seperator any better?
I've had a search in the archives but didn't find a post that could help specifically, but I might try getting the replacement boots mentioned in there.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

My daughter is seeking a ZR 105 so we had a run out to the
local Dealer on Saturday morning. She was happy so we set
about negotiating on a one year old one priced at £8995.
No we could not have a reduction for cash and no trade in.
Second attempt - No we could not have a CD player either.
Tried for a new one. We don't give discounts (despite all
the posters on the windows) so we gave up in despair and went home.
Can anyone give me a contact number at Rover to try to have
a rational discussion with somebody in Sales?
P S I am also eligible for MG car club Preferred Customer
Discount - but nobody knows if that is "as well as" or "instead of".
P P S Does anyone know where I can get a ZR 105 one year old
at a sensible price bearing in mind the alleged high rate of
depreciation...?

.. unfriendly manner as that with which you spoke to em.bee. I guess that ... >>
I admit I was taken aback by meldrew's response. Perhaps I have upset him at some time with a post elsewhere. Although with that username, perhaps I should have expected it. I was taken in by meldrew's very helpful wbsite
www.e-accountant.co.uk/
where he offers his own design software free to all and by his photo in which he looks like a very nice gentleman with looks similar to the presenter of "Sale of the Century".
I'll draw a line under this episode, like any chartered accountant would.

Was wondering what people thought about the following;
There is a Ford Dealer who imports cars originally from Guernsey.
They seem to be good quality/low mileage vehicles.
They have to be re-registed here in order to be sold in the UK.
Unfortunately there is no way of doing any kind of HPI check on them ?
What do people think pls ?

Thanks for your help guys - food for thought :D
I wonder if someone could help our Residents' Association...
Our development consists of 5 houses, at the end of a long gravel L-shaped private drive that is owned jointly by the residents. As 3 of the houses have resident young children and the other two houses have regular visits from grandchildren, the children enjoy playing together at the front of the houses. Unfortunately, visitors and delivery vehicles tend to be drive much too quickly for the conditions and we are concerned for the children's safety. We have installed a 'SLOW, Children' sign, but this does not seems to have had the desired effect, neither does a bright yellow mobile warning sign.
Now we would like to install two speed bumps at strategic points in the drive. We have brochures of the heavy duty rubber speed bumps seen on the roads, but these are expensive and don't look very nice. The drive in effect cuts across our front gardens, so while safety is paramount, it would be good to have something reasonably attractive. Can anyone recommend any alternatives? One suggestion is the use of logs set into the ground, which would certainly look much nicer. Does anyone know of anywhere that has these and who we might contact about having them installed? What about you country types?
Thanks very much!
Rebecca

Thanks again for all the responses.
Unfortunately appealing to drivers' better nature, and confronting others hasn't worked. And yes there is one resident Grandfather who is a regular culprit. A quiet word on a couple of occasions hasn't had much effect. The sign hasn't helped. Resurfacing the drive and putting in Tarmac bumps is prohibitively expensive at £5,000-ish. Cost is a major factor to be considered. My Husband is the only resident who really wants a gate...but there's too much room after where the gate would go for drivers to speed up again, so there doesn't seem to be much point!
I will go back to the others with the Dutch inspired idea of using planters etc to make a chicane effect, but the log idea is still a firm favourite I'm sure...
Luckily we already have liability insurance, but we will need to find out what we might need in terms of warning signs etc.
Keep your eyes open for log speed bumps and please report back any comments! Thanks again.

thanks for the tips!!
ill hunt it down tonight after work!!
MOT time is coming round again and I guess I'll have to embrace a little problem I left in December when it was too damned cold to fiddle about. I changed my front disc pads on my 2.0L SRI and in so doing damaged one of the thickness sensors. Ever since my computer has been displaying the disc pad thickness alarm. I see from my Haynes manual that new sensors were available as service items for the Cavalier but I do not see similiar info in the Vectra manual. can somebody please tell me 1) Can I get a new sensor for a Vectra? 2) If not will a Cavalier one fit(the calipers appear to be the same) or 3) Is it an MOT consideration anyway?
Many Thanks for your help

Im considering buying a gsi and would be keen to know from owners/exowners whats good and bad.Im keen on a 24v. Read more
I'm not sure about the exact numbers either; but I've only ever seen 3 12v estates other than the one I had; and 4 of the later 24V 'diamond' estate. I think in both cases they were de-tuned slightly compared with the GSi equivalent; but more than adequately quick.
I wanted to buy a 24v after I wrote my 12v off; but I couldn't find a manual one, it was difficult enough trying to find a manual omega V6 :-(
I've just 'fixed' the camshaft sensor on my 2.0l Ecotec (Simtec 56 system) and deprived GM of £67 - very satisfying.
It was the well documented method of elongating the bolt hole so it sits closer to the cam sprocket lobe for more reliable triggering.
However, on re-connecting the battery, which had been disconnected for 4 days, the code '92' was still present.
At this point I hadn't started the engine - I had just switched on the ignition.
But after starting the engine I checked again, and the code had disappeared.
I thought that all fault codes were lost when the battery is disconnected - in this case it appears that the error message was held in the ECU memory, even without battery power, until a correct signal was received from the sensor.
Can anyone clarify this?

Sort of bears out my 36 months/36,000 miles for a cambelt rule. Would you have trusted that belt to run for another 30,000 miles as GM USED to specify?

Congratulations to those who have now added profiles. For reasons unknown I might feel the need to carry on eMBe's campaign for a while. And Ben, why not? I'm sure no-one's remotely interested in mine either (which is why I chickened out and let M and D do it for me) but be brave! I kind of like this {P} thing, there's something vaguely conspiratorial about it.

He's done that ... His favourite "trick" at the moment is reversing with one wheel on the kerb and one on the road whilst standing in the car. Really good fun when next door's Lexus is parked outside - never seen it move so quickly !
Just don't want him getting bored with it as they cost so much money and now it looks a bit tame.
