The air conditioning on my Rover 200 smells when I switch it on. I think the previous owner had a dog, i have found dog hair under the rear seats.
It is not only the aircon that smells, but also when I have the fan on as well.
I was wondering if it was some kind of filter that needed changing. Any help would be appreciated. Read more
Well this made me chuckle anyway.
I am currently insured with Direct Line, and have been for a number of years, as no one can ever beat them on price, anyway as always I look around, just in case, and after reading one of the insurance threads whereby if you try Direct Line online the quote can sometimes come out cheaper, partly due to the fact that you get 5% online discount. Anyway I tried DD online and the quote came out £30 more :-)))) "Its a Funny old game" Read more
I tried the loyalty thing today. It didn't work!
From another thread, you might know I was quoted something like £180 from one company, my current insurers phoned today and quoted me £60 above that. When I asked them to reconsider/offer better quote etc, they could only come down by £20.
Tis why I tend to move insurers quite regularly.

Is there a comprehensive and reliable online site comparing tyres? For the record, I need to replace at least 2 - probably all - on a Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI; I\'m very satisfied with the Eco Contact (I think - not with car at moment) which were fitted: they\'ve done 29000m so far1 They are not immediately available at my local ATS or Kwik-Fit though at the moment.
Thanks

Putting my money where my mouth is (see above)I ordered 4 new tyres from Mytyres via the Net on Wednesday. Was given a delivery date for next Tuesday but they turned up from Germany, according to the labels, this morning. You do have to factor in another £5 each for fitting but the prices are good and in my case they could supply to an unusual spec. Usual disclaimers re no connection.
Has anyone used the company on the internet called 'Fastrax' to purchase a new / nearly new vehicle? If so how did it go?
Would you recommend buying a car from them as I have found that they are significantly cheaper than buying the car I want from a dealer.
There must be a catch can some please let me know??!!
Thanks

My advice is 2 fold:-
1) Do not even think about the MGF compared with the MX-5
2) Importers offer half the saving of 12 months ago.
I would go for an MX-5 from a broker dealing in "best price" UK Dealer price.
Has anyone else had any major problems with their Yaris? Mine seems to have been in the garage every few months since I got it and I'm starting to get a bit fed up, especially when I changed from a 9-year old Tipo to get away from the niggles and get something that wouldn't need attention.
In the 8 months I've had it, it's been in:
To have various trim rattles fixed.
To have a new window seal that had become misformed.
To try and locate a clutch noise when cold which hasn't been resolved as they never tested it when cold.
To find out whey the remote locking didn't like the cold, which again wasn't resolved because they wouldn't test it cold.
To have new CV boots as the old ones had split, and to get a replacement shocker to try and cure a rumble.
And now it's in for 3 days to have the gearbox rebuilt to cure a whine and to have the timing belt cover gasket re-sealed as it had started leaking oil.
Granted most of these are things that didn't affect the actual running of the car, but even still I'd expected more from Toyota. I'm wondering now if I've just been unlucky and got a bad one, although as it was 2.5 years old when I bought it, surely most of the bugs should have been ironed out?
It's currently warranted until next April, and I'm wavering between asking them how much trade-in they'd give me to change to another one now, or waiting and if anything else crops up while in warranty doing that. But if others have had trouble with the Yaris then I may well have to get out and go for something else entirely which is a shame as it's a darned nice little motor. Read more

And the British and their Rovers?
My N reg Tipo 1.4 has been a station run stalwart for a few years now, with the odd long run every month as a treat. In the past few weeks the fuel injector warning light on the dash (red with a symbol that my wife thinks looks like a baby's bottle) has been coming on. The handbook states that it's an "injection system malfunction - you may drive to the nearest Fiat service centre". The light stays on for a few minutes and then goes out again. It's doing it two or three times a week now. I can detect no change in the engine running, it seems to pull perfectly normally, no hesitation or misfire, whilst the light is on. So - is it something important? (ie expensive) or just one of those Italian car electrical things. I'd be grateful to hear from anybody else who's had experience of this.

i have been having exactly the same problem. glad to know i am not alone! ive only been driving a little while and not really up on cars!!. I had the fault cancelled at a local garage , but now it seems to come on even sooner! can anyone shed any nore light on this?
The oil pressure light is flickering on my daughter's 1996 Punto 55S (1108cc engine with 60k on the clock), but revving the car doesn't seem to make any difference, it still flickers just the same whether at idle or warmed up.
In what order should I check out the fixes?
It's filled to the right level with oil, using 10w-40 as per the manual, but the Haynes manual states to use 15w-40, could this be part of the problem - too thin an oil?
What do I look for next, the oil pressure sensor, if so, where is it, the Haynes manual doesn't show it.
Any other things I should check first before getting a garage to look it over? Read more
If the oil pressure were low, you would have been alerted to the fact by noisy hydraulic tappets.
Does anyone know of a renault scenic forum web site if so could you reply with the address

Sorry cant comment on that. MY scenic had an aftermarket alarm fitted. Pitty the person that bought it, just found the alarm intructions in my cupboard!
Can anyone recommend a good first car, must be brand new / nearly new and less than £9000.
Important considerations are ease of driving, insurance group, MPG, and cost of services. Would prefer a diesel for the above reasons.
Is a new Seat Arosa TDi for £8000 good value? Or would another make, model be better?
Thank you.

I'd agree with the posts about buying a banger/cheap car, especially if you're young, and also if it's your parents money. I got a brand new first car, but the fact that it is still unblemished is mainly due to luck. I've had some seriously close scrapes, mostly because I have little experience. If this is your first go at driving, I would recommend a "disposable" car that, if it happens, you would not be too sad to see written off or such. Also, something quite slow is a good idea. I've got a 1.0 Micra, and the fact that it has so little power discourages silly behaviour. There is literally no point in being silly in such a tame car.
If you're looking for a first car and buying with your parents money, again I would buy something cheap and slow, then upgrade in 6 months/1 years time. I've got to the point where I've been driving a 1.0 Micra for 2 years, but badly want something bigger with more power. However, in order to get a different car will involve spending my own money, and taking a big step backwards in terms of age, mileage, and quality. If your parents are buying, you'll want something that will keep you happy for years, or until you or they can replace it.
Many people seem to be in favour of a Lupo or Polo. If you regularly use the motorways, I'd go for something bigger like a VW Polo, Skoda Fabia, Seat Ibiza etc. While small cars do have their benefits when parking, driving in town etc, I find it unnerving to drive small cars on the motorway, and they really do have little space inside. Woe betide anyone who wants to sit in the back of my Micra. Also, you can't even fit a suitcase in the boot without folding the rear seats. I'd do some serious thinking about what exactly you want to use the car for.
Anyway, enough musing. Good luck in the car hunt, and I hope you enjoy whatever you end up buying :)
Anyone got any idea how to remove Tipp Ex from car bodywork? A schoolkid thought it funny to pour it down my friend's rear wing of his metallic Mondeo (M Reg).
You'll be glad to know he was caught and handed over to the police (12 year old) Read more

I bought a can of a product called Aircon Fresh from Halfords for about a tenner - I think it was made by Wynns. Yoou spray it into the cabin inlet for the aircon when it is on recirculate and it kills off all the bugs and nasty smells. It's dead easy to use. You should replace the pollen filter at the same time.
