Hmmm, not much motoring discussion going on here. Where's me edit button?

Is there a legal requirement to allow a pedestrian to reach the right-hand kerb (assuming a left-to-right cross) of a zebra crossing before moving off?

I've often found that in busy conditions it can prove difficult to move off before another person decides to use the crossing. Under these conditions, is it deemed okay to gently move off once the crossing pedestrian has safely passed the centre line of the road. I'm not suggesting a drag-strip start, skillfully brushing the pedestrian's buttocks on the way past.....!!

"On a similar note, doesn't it irritate you when you do stop and people loiter [spelling suggestions please] across without a nod of aknowledgement of you stopping?"

Or even worse when you have stopped for someone and his mate slows down and just starts to cross just before you go, and then his mate......

All with a supercilious smirk on their faces.

Personally when this happens I just think "chill man" and show them that basically I don't give a pink fluffy dice

Pls note I put the pfd in, not the mods. ;-)

Hi all - I'm off to a test drive an M regn. Volvo 960 3.0CD estate later this week. Apparently it's mint (they all say that don't they), has a full Volvo service history and has done 85k. Dark plum with beige leather interior, sounds nice. Anyway, anyone got any thoughts on what to look out for or how much I should be hoping to pay for this car ? Didn't have time to establish the asking price but it's a p/ex for a new V70. I'll check Parkers of course but would welcome any sort of feedback from those around here who know far more about such things than me
(which means everyone except HF! :-) ).

BTW, I've had no problems with my 940 se turbo (manual) in the five years I've been using it for primarily local runs and doing only 3-4k pa. How would a 3.0 960 (auto) take to this sort of treatment ?

Thanks gang !! Read more

My friend is currently trying to sell his Volvo because he cannot afford to run a Volvo 960 3.0 24v CD auto estate and a Scorpio auto on student loan. It has done 160k and fsh, MOT & Tax. Same year and specification as the one your've seen, metallic red and beige leather, private plate (A17 NCB, I think)

As he is preparing for our finals at the moment (so am I) and has to repay the student loan soon after, he is considering to flog it through auction. He is expecting 4000 pounds.

Would you like to have a look at his?

I currently run a 98 Audi A4 2.5 Diesel Quattro Avant (93K miles)in which the engine has been vibrating slightly more at idle, I think the injectors may be slightly gummed & a shot of injector cleaner will be used at the next fill-up.
My question is which is the best Diesel to prevent gumming.
I have done 10k in the car & have filled up with Esso 99.9% of the time. I have also used Esso in my previous diesels without any known problems.

You might remember Dizzy I had a communication with direct with Ford asking for clarification of their statement quoted in the DT "constant use of worst case diesel will lead to problems.."

In the end all they said was as long as the fuel meets EN590 then you will be OK. Since then I always look for the above spec when filling up and have not yet found an outlet which does not comply. That includes supermarket and oil company sites.

I would like to see some independant scientific testing though. Maybe there has been and not reported because it proved nothing.

Hi guys..........I don\'t know if you\'re fed up with hearing about Ford\'s that cut out but I have a similar problem.

My 1996 Ford Ka cuts out when dropping from high revs (75-80 mph in 5th) to idle.........this only seems to happen when the car is warm. I\'ve tested this when the car is at a standstill by opening the throttle up to high revs and then shutting it quickly - this causes the car to splutter and die! There is no problem with restarting the car.

I\'ve already tried cleaning the throttle body and idle air control value with carb cleaner and this doesn\'t make a difference.

After reading a couple of posts on this board I\'m thinking I might try a new oxygen sensor...........

I\'d apperciate any advise that people can give please!

Thanks.

Andy.

Ka don't have a stepper motor as such;it's the idle speed control valve-on the front of the inlet manifold at the top of the engine.

I was very interested in the TDCi auto - was chatting
with an ex Ford dealer sales manager (now at Vauxhall) who
couldn't sing enough praise for the engine. I really enjoyed
driving a TDCi manual I had as a hire car recently.
Lovely motor.

Good to hear someone say positive things about this motor. Listening to most people on this site its all doom and gloom. As for me, I always thought I'd like to own a V6 car one day but having driven my tdci for 3 months, I know that won't be necessary any more. Its as punchy and quiet as any V6 I've ever been in (OK except at idling and when it starts first think in the morning).
Just need it to keep going for 200Kmiles then get another

my mates ax gt g reg 1.4 is firing on 3 cylinders,

but when you rev it up it goes to 4, comes back to idle holds it for a few seconds and then looses it again. whats the prob?

i\'ve had the head of and renewed the valve oil seals, new head gasket etc

the problem was like this before thats why i tried to fix it. hehe do it yourselfers

it was liquid oily, but since i changed the valve stem seals its gone to solid black - running rich.

it sounds like the 2rd cylinder is back now, but still is a begger to keep idle u have to keep the choke out for it it to idle ok above 1,000 rpm

its a cast steel head, and oil top has water in it , white stuff. is it unlikely the head got warped and when i put it back it started to leak water cos i didn't get it skimmed.

Backache

Can anyone advise me where I can get seats to replace the manufacturers original. I have recently bought a new Citroen C5 and on long journeys it's killing me - awful support for the lower back. I live in the north-west so if anyone can point me somewhere I can get an orthopaedic seat(or simply a good seat) fitted it might save me having to replace the car which is otherwise OK.

Hi

This beast has developed what can only be described as a screeeeeching noise mainly at low engine revs which goes once on the move and engine rpm> 2000 .

It sounds alternator vicinity ish - is it safe to run with alternator drive belt removed (apart from obvious danger of discharging the battery) for fault finding purposes.

If it is alternator bearings which I suspect is this a feasible DIY option?

Cheers

Sorry - did mean to get back earlier.

I fitted new fanbelt which cured the problem.

Also found something else which may have been a factor.

The bolt that secures the pivot for the alternator adjusting strap (the one with rubber bushes/earth strap) positioned behind the rear cambelt cover had wound its way out! It was only the cambelt rear cover that had stopped it from dropping out. It had obviously been poorly installed (by me!!)Not sure if this was contributing but its tight now + new belt and no shrieking.

Thanks to all concerned - this is a great site.
