Dear all,

What is the latest news on this model?

Regards.

I am starting a job soon with Uncle Henry and accordingly have been looking at various Ford motors with which to replace my current chariot.

I was very interested in the TDCi auto - was chatting with an ex Ford dealer sales manager (now at Vauxhall) who couldn't sing enough praise for the engine. I really enjoyed driving a TDCi manual I had as a hire car recently. Lovely motor.

The gearbox, however, appears to have a torque converter completely unsuited to the diesel engine. The engine on the manual gearbox is not only very potent but reasonably efficient (mid 40's as I have had from said hire car) - looking at Ford's own brochure figures, the auto knocks the diesel down to mid 30's mpgwise! In this day and age, and what with manufacturers such as Audi producing autos that are actually more efficient than their manual counterparts, this is pretty disappointing.

Much as I wanted the auto, I honestly think it defeats the object of having a diesel given the fuel consumption.

Good to hear someone say positive things about this motor. Listening to most people on this site its all doom and gloom. As for me, I always thought I'd like to own a V6 car one day but having driven my tdci for 3 months, I know that won't be necessary any more. Its as punchy and quiet as any V6 I've ever been in (OK except at idling and when it starts first think in the morning).
Just need it to keep going for 200Kmiles then get another
