18 month old punto is leaking rainwater into front passenger footwell - definitely rain, not coolant or spray on underside.
Dealer cannot do anything for over a week and, as it's parked outside and it's raining hard, we have a problem.
Because carpets are fitted it's not possible to trace the source from the inside.Have checked the trough in front of engine compartment bulkhead and cables through bulkhead and no apparent problem.
It's shipped about a half pint in the last 24 hours.
Does anyone have any ideas? PLEASE. bax.

The 'Brand Loyalty' displayed by car owners is staggering. In the past most British manufacturers went through periods of producing awful cars and yet owners went back time and time again to trade in their old model.
There is much the same syndrome displayed in the Backroom. Time after time we get the Volvo/Citroen/Skoda etc owner taking any excuse to extol the virtues of their own choice of car. True it may be just perfect, but we can be forgiven for thinking it is hardly objective! - the Mandy Rice-Davies factor as someone called it in an earlier thread.
On the internet there are countless sites that give objective appraisals of any model - not least HJ on this one.
Ducks for cover.

Tom's right. If you have a brand of car and a dealer that you are happy with - changing may be risky. I used to drive VWs - I considered the early Golf GTIs were "best of breed" at that time. But then the models, and the dealer experience, went downhill - so I changed.
I don't think people are slavishly brand loyal if the product or service starts to suck.
My husband and I have a '92 Jaguar XJ6 3.2 with twin headlamps. These always have been very poor on dipped beam. We have read on the forum about brighter bulbs, but what other options are there? The headlamps pass the MoT alignment test but appear to point at the ground too much but the garage say they are correctly adjusted. Main beam is fine. It is getting to the point where we do not like driving at night on unlit roads - especially as everybody elses lamps seem to dazzle. Neither of us are technically minded so please keep the answers simple! We thoroughly enjoy the Telegraph column!
Many thanks

In my experience, some cars are just destined never to have decent headlights. Are your reflectors tarnished or dirty? How about the inside of the lenses? It might just be that the bulbs fitted to your Jag are several years old, they tend to get gradually dimmer with age and use. A straight replacement pair of bulbs might give you more of an improvement per £ than any of the alternatives suggested here.
My friend's Ford Ka headlights are, so she tells me, "like two candles in the mist". Even with xenon bulbs and aiming the lights correctly in a garage block at night, they are now merely adequate.
I have just collected an 'X' 206 hdi which is going well but the alarm has gone off twice while it has been parked, in the last week. No windows or doors open, no attempts to break in, a cat might have walked on it but I don't think so! Is this something that a main dealer's computer fault finder might locate or is it a niggly electrical gremlin that I shall have to live with? It is still under warranty but is it curable, in the opinion of other Back-roomers who may have had similar problems with any make of car? Read more
It's worth checking the bonnet limit switch is well and truly made, had a Primera with that problem after a accident damage repair.
Was not the proposal for the scheme given birth some time before the current escalation of the Gulf Problem and George William coming to office which places the security aspect out of the frame?.
However with it in being it will be an added bonus to the Emmeye people and the security of London. More so after todays revelation of security cordons to isolate smallpox outbreaks etc.
Truth is IMHO we only know a minute portion of what is going on in the background. T'wood frighten us all to death if we knew all.

Help - I dream of owning a Merc E300/320 estate, c £16-20K. But my head says take a new Mondeo Ghia X tdci, as the Merc (3-5 years old) is just a bigger overdraft waiting to happen.
Does anyone have any experiences or views on the merits / costs of ownership of either of these rather contrasting options?

I suggest you look at www.mercedesproblems.com/, under E320 and search for station wagon
hi, does anyone out there know the specification for the oil which is used in the volvo v70 manual gearbox ,no info is available from the usual sources haynes, chilton workshop manuals etc, they only quote a volvo part number ,tried the main dealers who also refuse to dislose this classified info but are prepared to sell it to you at a very reasonable £25 a litre! many thanks Read more
Why not change to a fully synthetic manual transmission fluid from Red Line or Torco? I currently use Torco in my R800VS. Demon Tweeks do both, sold by the US quart (0.996 litre) at a little over a tenner a bottle (+vat). Hewitt Motorsport at Mallory Park can do Torco and will be cheaper than DT.
As sub-1500cc engines rate a lower car tax, what is the most powerfull car on the market with such an engine?

Don't just go by the power;divide this by the weight. This will give power/weight ratio-the higher this is,the better the performance!
I would like to know if other owners of new Land Rover Defenders
have experienced water ingress into the cab from when the vehicle was new. Despite the dealers numerous attempts to fix the problem the footwells still fill up with water when it rains.
Short of drilling a hole to let it drain out has anybody got any idea how to fix this !!! Also, what action can be done agst Land Rover ?

i have a 61 plate fiat punto and having the same problem, it was always wetter in the passenger rear footwell but today decided to lift the carpets and seats and found the passenger front footwell was saturated in water, sitting in the car tonight when it was pouring rain looking for leaks and found water coming in at a seam weld of the body in the inner wing.
