I'm about to buy a Picasso and would rather diesel than petrol but have heard the HDI may have Clutch problems..
Citroen UK and a few Citroen dealers tell me Clutch is no problem..
Would be great if anyone has any info as to weather the Clutch will cause probs..
Looking forward to sum info.... Read more
The heater fan only works on full speed. What slows it down and where is it?? Read more
Actually if you don't like working upside down with your feet out the sunroof, removing the glovebox makes access a lot easier! Good luck.
I am suffering from significantly increased internal condensation on all the windows. I suspect heater matrix? Does the previous warranty free replacement still apply? What are the terms?
Are there any sympathetic VW garages in South Herts, North London?
How do I go about finding out if this has already been done on the car.
PS there are no obvious leaks, dry carpets etc and condensation is much worse on starting to use demister to clear windows. Sometimes a sweetish smell. But no significant coolant loss!
Any other ideas?

Car taken in as booked 08.30. Telephone call direct from the fitter at about 13.00 saying that he had pressure tested the matrix and it appeared sound. A conversation followed with my description of 'occasional condensation and sweet antifreeze smell' being accepted by him as being an adequate reason to change the matrix. Car available by 18.00. Looks as though the job has been done properly, under dash trim has been disturbed and the very small visible area of matrix pipe in the engine compartment looks new. No valves were fitted. I have been told that if a new (better quality?) matrix is fitted the troublesome valves are not necessary.
The recall had been terminated, so the work was all carried out under VAG warranty heading. Does this set a record for warranty work after 16 years?
Full marks to Wayside of St Albans Herts. If all work is handled like this a new (discounted) VW could be a possibility.

As I understand it, the benefit of low profile tyres is an enlarged footprint on the road surface, affording better grip.
Set against that is the increased chance of wheel damage on our increasingly potholed roads, tramlining tendencies, a harder ride, and of course the extra cost.
Does the pro outweigh the cons, or have I missed something? Read more
Mmm. Increased cornering speed. Very useful around the housing estate then. How much increase is there and is it really necessary?
Pandering to the shallow posers methinks.
Blue washer jets anyone?
I have a Ford Ranger 1996 XLT that has begun to sputter only in 1st gear, usually while rounding a corner from a stop. It doesn't do this unless it's above about 50 Degrees outside.
It is not every time, but about once every 5 or 6 times from a stop. It did this once and blew a fuse for the fuel pump.
I'd like to be as prepared as possible before I bring it in to the shop.
Thanks in advance Read more
Fahrenheit, I'm in Indianapolis, IN.
I am going to look at a 1993 (L Reg) Rover 214 SLi tomorrow. Is there anything on particular on these cars I should look out for?
Thanks and Happy New Year. Read more
Yep, can concur with all of the above - good solid little motors.
Many of which have covered some considerable mileages.
Keep the cooling system in tip-top condition and there's no need to worry! You'll love the quick warm-up in the winter, due to the low coolant volume within the engine itself....about 1.5 litres!
Loose any of that coolant and you'll pay dear!

I am thinking of getting an Alfa Romeo 156 Sportwagon but am a little wary of the Dealers. One car I am really interested in is for sale on www.alfasource.co.uk , has anyone had any dealings with these people?
Thanks in advance.

It wasn't really an advert, just a pointer that it's not the Alfa Dealers that are at fault. It's the company themselves 99% of the time. Don't get me wrong I love Alfa Romeos but Fiat Auto leave a lot to be desired........
Yes, the Passat I can't afford to change (because of the mythical 'rock solid' residuals) has now failed again. The display for the trip computer has just failed. This is on top of the recently failed dash lights and the dash that sounds like it is about to fall off. Motoring journalist constantly harp about 'bomb proof' build quality. I think mine has exploded again.
I never, never suffered these problems with my pervious Fords or Rovers.
If your thinking of buying a VW-------- DON'T.

Interesting, I haven't had any problems with my Honda. Nevertheless the dealer didn't exactly impress me. More an "attitude" than anything else and I said so in the customer survey I received direct from Honda UK. Thinking about a Toyota next time because of this. Shame because the car is fine. I just don't feel very confident about how I would get on if there were any problems. Perhaps I've been spoilt by superb service from a smaller country garage. Alas no more, bought out by a bigger outfit for the sole purpose of shutting it down!
Hi
I'm new to this site. We are thinking about getting a new (to us!) car. We have two boys who are both in car seats and are planning to try for another one soon. We also have a long legged greyhound. We travel to my parents for the weekend fairly often.
So...we need a car with three full sized rear seats and space for luggage/pushchair and the dog.
My other half reckons we need a MPV, but I think an estate would be better as MPV's dont appear to have a big enough boot for a pushchair and luggage, and what to do with the dog?!
Its all a bit of a nightmare really, so any recommendations?
Pricewise we dont really want to spend too much, as we have a 6 year old Escort to trade or sell, and the rest will have to be finance.
Thanks all

Don't fall for any hype. Depreciation is by far the biggest cost. You may get 41.296348 out of a diesel and 36 out of a petrol but in the great scheme of things it won't change the costs at all unless ou do zillions of miles.
Buy something that has done the worst of it's depreciation but above all buy what you like. No one else's opinion matters.
I have a customer with a 214 16v "R" - plate. Occasionally it dies whilst driving, sometimes ,it recovers, once or twice it has stalled and not re-started, however having been left for 5-10 mins it starts o.k. Today it wouldn't start from cold ( unusual, as it is more problematic while half warm) and the battery went down. I got it going with jump leads and a shot of easy start, but I haven't cured the fault. Any ideas ? Gratefully received . Read more
Let us know how it turns out for you?

Yes, I mentioned stalling Picasso, it seems to have sorted itself with another tank of diesel. They were both from Shell, but different garages in the same region.
