or anyone else who knows.
What is the name of the handbook (that has been mentioned on here before) that the Police have that is a guide to the (motoring) law?
Sorry to use up forum space - feel free to delete once I've got an answer - I'll confirm that I've read it.
Thanks very much.

Spotted on the A14 this morning - dark blue Discovery, with a large steel box section (looked like a giant heavy duty bumper) mounted across the front, very low down. Stuck out about six inches either side. At each end a thin vertical pole, around three feet tall, wrapped in black and yellow tape. Orange flashing lights on the roof, and a road sign (white arrow on blue circular background) bolted to the tailgate.
Anyone know what this vehicle is for?

Richard,
Did it have kids in school uniform and a big blond on a mobile phone?

I recently had the cam belt changed on my sharan tdi. The garage cocked it up at first and said that they fitted it a quarter of a tooth out. Is this possible? and would it damage the camshaft?
The engine subsequently failed after 800 miles with a lobe dropping off the camshaft. Read more
My Octavia with the same engine (1.9 diesel) had a cambelt fitted by the dealers 1 TOOTH out. It ran, but was about 50% down on power. (Which I suppose would be because the valves were open during part of the compression stroke.) I got them to fix it the following day though, and now it's as fine again.
Yours couldn't have been a quarter of a turn of the camshaft or crankshaft out, as that would equate to half or one whole stroke of the piston. Maybe it was just one tooth adrift where the garage didn't wedge the crankshaft or camshaft in position before they took the belt off.
Sounds like you've got a warranty claim there...
A year ago, I purchased a set of BK Racing alloy wheels. Unlike normal wheels, the bolts required a key, like a large allen key, to remove them. This way, they fitted snugly into the holes without leaving a gap. However, I now realise that this leads to a problem - the bolts have begun to show small cracks around the upper edge.
BK Racing claim that that this is due to overtourqing the bolts, yet the wheels have only been removed probably four or five times, and the bolts have always been put back on using a torque wrench. To me, it seems like a bad design - the wheel nuts are simply not thick enough.
BK Racing won't replace them, so be warned - BK Racing wheels may look good, but their bolt design leaves a lot to be desired.

Birth control is no remedy, laddie...............
There was a thread on here the other day where a guy had a flat in his Laguna and was going to have to wait a while for it to be fixed at a dealer. HJ made a comment on it.
I've found out a possible solution to his problem from a reliable trade source but can't now find the thread.
Did I dream it?

No, but I can't find it either.
I promise I didn't do anything bad.
Doesn't surprise me one bit that production is up 19.5% while sales are down 19%.
A mate of mine contacted me about a price for an imported 307 1.4 lx and a focus 1.6 lx but he wanted the price within 5 days due to the 'offer' on the Pug.
So, I got him the price which saved just over £2k off the Pug but he went ahead and bought off the UK dealer because he 'threw in a cd autochanger'! I give up! Read more
Do you all remember when garages used to have champagne at midnight so that the delighted owners of new cars could drive out with their new cars? No garage around here bothered - the local Rover main dealer sold 6 cars for 1st September collection.
Have I been barred from this site or something? Or is the BR software having a bad day? I've just sent a (very rare for me these days) post (twice) in reply to the Forums (oh OK, fora) one giving my perspective on why I don't post. Hmmmmm. Paranoia setting in. So this is a kind of test - on a few fronts, actually, and if anyone finds the original one, can they do something creative with it? Or preferably, reply to it. You'll see what I mean by the above if you ever read it. I just don't think I have the energy to write it all again..... Read more
What the hell's going on? I didn't post this..................
I'm easily confused....................
Ford have introduced where I live a new small SUV called the Escape. It resembles a Honda CR-V so closely you have to scrutinise it with an intense scrute to notice the difference, but on closer inspection it looks a bit less opulent than the Honda. Has this, or some variant of it name-wise appeared in the EU? Looking through the Car-by-Car breakdown I thought it might be the Maverick but it seems too small for that.
It is very keenly priced vis a vis the Honda which has been a huge success here particularly with women, but it seems Ford is a bit late with their response.
Thanks in advance. I have a bottle of medicinal tincture at stake.
Incidentally I see the Laser Lynx gets classed as very pretty. Growlette recently got one in silver and is thrilled. Thanks HJ.

I could never understand people who wanted to drive around in a red cherry..............whatever happened to the Wartburg Isabella?
A local garage has informed me that they have experianced a number of motorists who have had punctures and have put the spare wheel on using the same locking bolts!!! this has caused BIG problems as the spare comes with its own set of locking bolts which are longer as the spare is not an alloy wheel. If not used then the wheel will not fit correctly and vibration will occur and massive damage could result. The problem may apply to other makes.Any views out there ??

Doesn't seem to apply to Vauxhalls. My last two have used the same bolts for the steel spares.
The other day as I walked down the street I saw the tailgate of an estate car open (can't remember the make) and this had a warning sign, showing two different length bolts, on the rear loading lip, where I imagine you'd lift the boot floor to get at the spare.
I suppose this is a partial answer to the problem.

Nothing so exciting I'm afraid.
Only a business related query.
Sorry to disappoint everyone.
