is a banner advert for Mercedes. See if you can spot what is wrong with it.

Clearly, German car manufacturers are not what they once were.

If I've found what I think you are commenting on, I am hardly surprised! The people who did not get a proper education in the 80s are now advertising copywriters! People seem to be unable to tell the difference between principal and principle, its and it's and so it goes on. Just shows that people can't write or proof read properly. I hope I haven't put any mistakes in this or the jeers of the Backroom wil descend upon me!

The banner ad now seems to have been pulled. Perhaps someone at Mercedes knows that there are two Rs in 'surprise'.

FWIW, when I worked in housing benefits in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the ones who were the very worst writers and spellers were the ones born in the 19teens/1920s and educated in the 1920s and 1930s. I suspect this was because of poor or missing parenting in the aftermath of WWI, but anyway, they were appalling. The best were those educated in the 1960s and 1970s, and there weren't many from later than that. The younger people were markedly better than the old. Bear in mind these were people who had not succeeded in life, at least not in a monetary sense, so were probably not that well educated as a group anyway. It may also show that the poor are better educated now than they used to be. Maybe that's why they don't buy many Mercedes cars ;-)

Sorry, 1950's were the last of the best. Have Latin drummed into you and you always did well at English..... :-)

Motoring? Oh, sorry yes. YOu also learned to double-declutch as well...

Change is inevitable -- progress is optional.

I found out that it's the only car in the world with an odd number of CD player speakers - 7? I can understand 6, I can understand 8, but 7?!

The odd one I imagine would be a sub woofer. The rest being a combination of base, mid range and tweeters. I believe the "all new" Vectra has an odd number of speakers also.

And, of course, long before that Citroen BXs had 3 or 5. But then it always takes a while for the likes of Mercedes to catch up with Cits!!!

Seem to remember some Citroen Visa had 1 speaker.

Dolby pro logic systems have an odd number I think, certainly mine has a single speaker in the centre of the dash.
