Hi,
Strange behaviour with my saxo ('97 P plate). Whenever she has less than half a tank of fuel, the idling becomes more of a struggle and often when I stop at a junction or lights etc the revs drop right off, to such an extent that the anti stall kicks in and she revs and then settles. Once or twice she has even cut out. However as with all good problems it doesn't ALWAYS occur and so replicating for the garage is often difficult.
Citroen upgraded the software load on the engine management, but still the symptoms persist.
Has anyone else experienced something similar/got some advice on what to consider - aside from keeping the tank full of petrol!
Thanks,
Paul Read more
When I click on a mail link here (for HJ, Martyn or any other poster with a mail address) a window opens with Outlook Express to send a mail.
A contact who uses the site gets the following error message "Cannot send mail, no mail programme is set up using Internet shortcuts".
I remember I used to get this with my older IE/OE setup.
Assuming this chap has IE/OE 5 or older can he set up his program to deliver the mail link or is it a compatibilty problem with the site?
Thanks,

Thanks Dan J,
This is a solution to a problem which has been annoying me too.
Just goes to show that you can find most answers to most questions on this site somewhere.
Like trying to find out what a Ford Escape was in UK terms, where did I get the answer after trawling round the net?
HJ's car by car breakdown of course, thanks HJ.
Hi. has anyone come across this one. My 97 1.8 16v has started running on intermittently. Doesn't seem related to long/short journeys. Local dealer has diagnosed that it is running rich and that ECU is faulty (other sensors check out OK) so had it changed. Of course there is no difference. Any ideas out there on what this could be? And how can a car with electronic injection run on, surely it all goes dead when you turn off the ignition? Read more
Help!
Ive got a very nice X-reg Vauxhall Corsa Comfort (new shape) with a sweet little 1.2 16v Ecotec engine. Its the latest type with drive-by-wire and chain driven cams (it looks like a 4-cylinder version of the wheezy 1.0 12v) and it goes very well considering its low output - its also great on fuel.
The car has done 23k miles and has recently been serviced by the local vauxhall dealer using vauxhalls own fully synythetic oil (as specified in the manual) which is 5w-40.
Imagine my shock to discover major amounts of 'mayonaise' sludge under the oil filler cap! Is this normal for these ecotec engines?
I am know very concerned that the engine is going to suffer premature wear and I want to get on top of this problem!
The car is used seven days a week mostly on journeys of at least 15 miles which include a mixture of town, dual carriageway and very steep hills - and I dont drive it for economy! The temperature gauge seems to show normal working temperature. Has anyone else suffered from this? Read more
Sadly yes, 'cos I would love to be able to blame it on this! I saw them pouring the oil in (and change the filter)... Its got me worried!
Thank you to everyone who helped me find a car, Stu, your help was greatly appreciated.
I am now the proud owner of a Peugeot 405, H reg (1990), 96,000 miles, re-con engine, new battrey, 5 new tyres, cenral locking.
Thanks again everyone.
PS I am not even getting involved in that stupid debate as to whether LAS knows the owner of the other car!!!!! Who cares?! Read more
Gayle,
Happy motoring, see you in the queue on the Epsom one way system!

Ok. A bit broad this one considering what I am about to ask but, here goes. In the price range I have specified I am looking for a family estate (i.e bigger than escort sized). Quality is what I am after, not necessarily newness, and expect to own it for 3 to 4 years (by which time I tend to get bored however good a car). Recommendations and things to consider very welcome. Thanks in advance. (I have a part-ex worth about £3500 I think)

I'm sure the 5 series BMW will be the nicest to drive, and 5 series seem to get better looked after, owned by older persons I suppose.
You can get them in mega tuneable diesel form too,but make sure you get the one woth the intercooler.Even if it is,actually,an aftercooler!
Otherwise a Pug 406 estate, with the 110 HDi seems to me to be the nicest of the ordinaries. You will prabably get at least 10 years out of it,although, unchipped, its no fireball.
I was connecting the red power wire to my new CD when I accidentally toched it against bare metal.
Now theres no power for the CD and also the clock and the cgarette lighter.
Could anyone tell me which fuse it is please, because I have looked at all the fuses I found and they seem to be ok. Read more
Its ok Ive just found it.
Thanks anyway.
Super new ICE got a blue illuminated display.

Is it just me, or has anyone else had problems with this site? Every time I log on, I get 'Internet Explorer Script Error' popping up repeatedly, can't cancel it unless I exit the site. This has been the case over the last three days or so. Read more

Just been talking to my Brother-in-law ( about recommending this web site, too ) who mentioned an article in a recent Daily Telegraph that discussed 2 or 3 Chinese coal mines that have been burning uncontrolably for many years. One mine, it seems, has been burning for over 130 years and emits more CO2 than the whole of all the cars in Germany put together. Anybody enlighten me on this - seems incredible and puts global sources of CO2 emmissions into perspective perhaps ? Read more
Anyone who has ever been to China will be able to put the EU nit-picking anti-car anti-pollution stuff into real perspective. The size and scale of everything is almost incomprehensible. BY comparison most EU stuff is mere p---ing in the wind.
Anyone been reading JC lately. (You can admit to buying The Sunday Times and the Friday Sun here.) Thing is, he's back into testing cars again. And a lot of the stuff he's been writing gets you nodding in agreement when you're not laughing at the metaphors. The Balding Eagle's Nest (ben) has got to be sharpening his teeth in preparation for a tv comeback. That's going to be fun.

HJ,
I know that this subject was discussed in detail in the past & that some of us indicated that we would be prepared to pay to subscribe to the site. I presume that you have considered this?
I subscribe to a twitchers (Birdspotters) site...10 pounds a year & very good value too!
I would hate to see this one go under, apart from excellent authentic information, I get most laughs here!
Interesting regarding your Dads car, than you.
regards
Simon

My 2.0i volcane seemed to display just the symptoms Paul described. I noticed that it happened on very hot days, I wondered if it was something to do with fuel evaporating i0n the manifold or something similar!! I replaced the idle control stepper motor (for £120!!) but it didn't solve the problem completely, but since the weather has cooled it doesn't happen anymore. Coincidence?!
I had citroen read the ECU memory but they couldn't find anything wrong, in addition all the parameters were normal. I think that it's all still a mystery.
