Does anyone know if BMW business radio can be upgraded easily. The dealer does a HarmanKardon job but at £1000 is not an option. Live in SW london, but can travel (!)

Does anyone know where I can source a pair of LEFT HAND DRIVE headlights for my 97 P Mercedes C Class - preferably without paying main agent prices? Read more
Stephen,
Find a contact in the UK Armed Forces. I know there are loads of LHD headlamps for all sorts of cars for sale in the RAF in-house magazine.
Folks buy UK spec cars fitted with them when posted, they get back here and find there is litle market for them when they convert to RHD lamps.

I think I am right in saying that all Mondeos are built at Genk in Belgium? If this is true it means that every car off the line must have a notional euro price on it as it rolls off the line, ready for delivery. It would be interesting to know within what price range a base Mondeo would fall (pre tax) in various European countries. Any ideas out there? Perhaps the Finance Director at Genk will post a reply!!! Read more
The actual build cost is £2,500 to £3,000. But this does not account for development costs, marketing, Formula 1 teams, Formula 1 drivers salaries, etc, etc.

A mates M reg 106 'Mardi Gras' 1.5d has snapped it's cam belt at 90,000 miles. He's been informed that there is considerable damage to the engine by a garage that is quoting £700 to put it right. I assume as it's a diesel that there isn't much space in the combustion chamber and the impact of piston to valves will be cause lots of damage.
I reckon his cars worth about £1200 to £1500 or so as a private sale.
For £700 will he get a 'new' rebuilt and reconditioned engine? Or just a new head, valves and pistons? Do these have a turbo which will be full of bit's of valves? Are there any good, recommended suppliers of reconditioned peugeot diesel engines?
Is it worth him getting it MOTd before the repairs are done to make sure that it's not going to cost him another couple of hundred in a few months time?
How much would it be worth without a working engine (ie to someone who would source one from a write-off and drop it in as a DIY project)? A couple of hundred?

I just paid £100 for an M reg AX 1.5D Dimension in running order albeit with a leaking fuel pump and slightly noisy gearbox if thats anything to go by!
Reading an article from a few days old Daily Mirror today at the mother in laws. By Quentin Wilson regarding a garage somewhere who found he had plenty of punters for his cars Providing they had 12 months road tax they would pay the price on the screen with no bartering.
Then it clicked with the garage proprieter.....they had no insurance.
Re-worded his ads to include 12 months road tax and theyr'e selling like hot cakes.

Sorry if I did not make myself clear, in case you thought that I was argueing for fogery.
I totally agree that every driver/vehicle (plus cyclist and pedestrian as well - now there's a controversial point) should be insured for third party injury/damage.
What I was saying was that the only visible item at present is the VED disc, and it is TOO easy to fudge the insurance to get one, thereby saving megabucks, particularly for those most likely statistically to be in an accident.
BUT - how do we achieve that?

I recently purchased a 306 D turbo (3 door) and after the recent spell of wet weather I woke one morning to find a small lake in my passenger footwell!
After checking the sunroof drain holes, scuttle panel drain, and ariel mounts I am still foxed as to how the water is getting in!!!
The roof and passenger seat is bone dry and all of the electrics still work fine, I have not driven in the rain a great deal over the last few days but the car is parked outside overnight.
Anyone else had this problem or have any ideas as to where this water may be getting in? Is it common for the door seals to leak?? Read more
I'll check the other door but as far as I can tell the car is totally original, the door doesn't look like a replacement.
Luckily I've got some plastic sheet and the black goo that they stick it on with (sourced from a friendly windscreen replacement company) so I may try fitting that.
Typical that as soon as I try and find a water leak it stops raining!!!!
The FAQ mentions professional repair of scratched windscreens. Has anyone attempted this for themselves? Mine only has fine wiper marks on it, but these are noticeable in bright sunshine (I seem to remember!) and it would be nice to be able to polish them out. I tried a wax-free paint restorer, but it makes no impact on glass, although it claims to contain aluminium oxide. Any ideas, or should I leave it to the professionals? Read more
You can get most of the polishing grits from www.earthlines.co.uk/acatalog/Earthlines_Catalogue...l

On Sunday we were driving along the A43 towards Northampton when we came across a bright blue camera thing pointing straight at us. It looked brand new, was painted a nice shade of dark blue, was a typical Gatso, and was on the left side of the road and there were no markings on the road. At this point the road is a real mess due to the construction of the dual cariageway and the new road is also on the left. However, the new road is nowhere near finished so I doubt the camera is there in anticipation of completion.

Not so difficult to uninstall, either. Just a diamond saw, or a bit of pitch to cover the lense.
A guy buys his wife a beautiful diamond ring for Valentines.
After hearing about this extravagant gift, a friend of his said,
"Wait a minute, I thought you told me before that she wanted
one of those sporty four-wheel-drive vehicles?"
"Well she did," he replied...

I still laugh, but the first time I heard this was in the Middle East. Still the CIA, but included Mossad and the Syrian Mughabharat secret police. The Syrians were the butt of the joke and since the storyteller was Muslim we still had a rabbit but the pig became a goat.
This must be like one of these urban myths that travel the world, changing to suit circumstances.
Motoring connection: In my version the CIA and Mossad all leapt into the American's Cherokees to go find the Mughabharat.
