A neighbour of mine has a Pajero import from Japan.
he was telling me today that it has two 12 volt batteries under the bonnet but dosn't understand why.
He has had the Shogun before but this only had the one battery.
Anyone tell me why!!

It is most likely that it has two 12v batteries in wired in parallel which is essentially the same as having one huge 12v battery. A few big diesels have twin batteries to cope with the huge drain on the electrical power when starting and I would bet that this is why.

I know I could phone them up tomorrow and ask but does anybody know if the 'same' Galaxy part can be had cheaper ( or quicker ) through either dealer. Nothing specific , just wondering. When I do phone up for the next bit I'll let you know. Read more

I found Ford relays cheaper than VW for the Galaxy, but all dealers need the VIN number to locate even the simplest of items, therefore the Ford garage won't recognise the VW VIN number, and you'll get the usual shrug of the shoulders and vacant look.

Has anyone out there got any info as to when the Yaris D4D is going to be available and how much it may cost? None of the dealers seem to know yet and I could be seriously interested. Read more

Thanks, Spud. Have updated the car by car breakdown which previously said February.

I have often wanted to know why so many trades quote figures as x + VAT I am under the impresion that you have to pay the VAT and then claim it back if you are eligible to do so. Does anybody actually buy things just because it sounds less when quoted - VAT???

My earlier thread 'Tyre choice & fitting' I said that I have decided to buy my tyres from my local ATS partly due to the bloke on the phone being helpful, he was also the only one to quote with VAT.

Perhaps I should get out more? :-) Read more

very simple answer!

When running a VAT-registered business, allowed to reclaim VAT, you are not in the last interested in the VAT inclusive price, but only the exclusive price 0 what the item actually costs you,

Of course you know that you have to add VAT to your selling figure, but that is accepted and identiable as such

If you are either exporting or selling mainly to other VAT registered companies, your customers do not care either

Just passed a Lexus LX470. Is this the same as a Land Cruiser (but no doubt more expensive)? Read more

As Lincoln is owned by Ford, I assume it's a rebadged Excursion or Expedition.

If you're stuck inside this weekend and don't fancy any of the dross on the telly, I recommend you nip out and rent this on DVD or Video. It's set in California, the lead is played by Vin Diesel, it's shot like a video game and the cars are something else. Tricked up RX7s, Integras, Supras (Tomo), Skylines, Civic Coupes and lots more including (curiously) a Vento VR6. And oh, yes, a supercharged Dodge Charger. It's really well lit, atmospheric, different and has the necessary eye candy too, but no smut. After all, this is America where it's okay for kids to watch cars street racing in the city at 160mph and fine for kids to see people shooting each other to bits but not okay for them to see any sex. Can anyone identify the other motors? Obviously there must have been a feature in Max Power or Rves that passed me by.

It's been done. 'Pulling power' (nothing to do with women - just off-roaders), HTV 10-30, Mondays.

Didn't quite meet the description of Fast and Furious though.

The Rover P6 had the battery in the boot too.

How many others did?

The electricity in a car is 12 V, and once the engine has started a couple of amps usually. In our house we have 240V. When taking a shower using an electric shower, current in the region of 40 amps flow.

When the engine is running the power to drive the lights / air con etc comes from the alternator - which is I expect, in the front on the said Volvo?, unlike rear and mid engined 'super' cars?

I remember readings of some VW PASSAT recall details on the HJ car-by-car breakdown page ..... I wonder has any UK owners of VW PASSATS (year 2000 onwards) ever been officially notified of any such recalls, and if so what what the basis of the recall? Read more

Guy Lacey

Official recalls will always be notified via DVLA records.

I owned a 10 year old Golf GTI (show winner, of course) and was owner number 5. I still received a recall note from VAG asking to confirm whether I had had the remedial works done on the heater matrix and, if not, I could book an appointment at a VAG dealer for the works to be carried out FOC - 10 years later. That is why I stick with VW.

I'm sure if it were an official recall then the proper channels would have been used and all owners would have been officially verified.
