Does anyone know where I can get hold of cheap non-Peugeot heater hoses to fit my 306 1.9 diesel as I have been quoted £50 + Vat for the ridiculous little things! Also how easy would it be to fit a standard turbo (PSA turbo from a scrapped car) to the engine or would it be better/cheaper to sell and buy a turbo-diesel? Just like to say that in my opinion (after working in a car supermarket for 3 months) the 306 is still the best handling car I've driven any objections?

Hi,
My Golf Mk2 leaks water all over the fuse box, and I cannot for the life of me figure where it is coming from. Any suggestions?

Bonnet cable grommet. Water runs down the cable - it drips on the relay plate/fuse box where the cable bends up again at the release handle.

David,
Thanks for the info, the govenor did look a very simple device.
The engine transplant taught me a good deal, and it was quite a useful training course to "grow" during my late teenage years.

Have just watched ITVs Pulling Power. What a delightfull change to see a programme where the cars are more important than the presenters. No smart remarks just comments on the cars, and objective views on British cars,no p

A sensitive one, this, but here goes.
Why is it that if I park on a double yellow on a corner, it creates a dangerous obstruction. However if my neighbour with an orange sticker does so then it doesn't? Read more
I had the Golf serviced three weeks ago so was a bit alarmed to see a pool of oil on the garage floor this morning. The manual says the oil should be somewhere in the dimpled area of the dipstick. The level was about one inch higher than the maximum level. The oil seems to be leaking through the seal (Is that what you call a gasket- near the bit where you pour in the oil!) . Is this the result of over filling the oil? The manual says that too much oil will cause damage to the Cat. Is this true? And will I be able to drive my 20 miles per day too and from work without causing any damage until next weekend when I can take it in to the garage (bracket for the exhaust needs replaced anyway).
Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the advice guys, you spurred me on to get the matter seen to this morning by my friendly local garage- dont know why I didn't get them to service the car in the first place!

About 3 weeks ago one of the Denso Spark Plugs fitted in my Toyota Carina 2 3 S-FE engine exploded. The centre porcelain core and centre electrode parted company from the screwed part of the plug which remained in place in the cylinder head. I have e-mailed Denso Europe and Japan but have not had the courtesy of a reply. The plug had only been in place 6 months. Any ideas or similar experiences? Read more
If you accidently drop a spark plug onto something hard,a garage floor being an example, scrapping it will avoid you having this experience.
I have some old, very old,dismantle-able spark plugs here, they are for vintage boat engines. They will withstand nuclear attack.
Where can I get reflective pressed aluminium number plates? They seem to have disappeared from the market-all you are offered now are plastic. Read more
I don't want black plates with silver or white letters,I want reflective plates(white & yellow) but made of aluminium;you used to be able to get them easily.
In my area last night was one of the few occasions when it was necessary to use fog-lights. We all rant about the rude-boys and suchlike who drive around with them constantly on, but I was amazed at the number of drivers, particularly on the country lanes with no street lighting, who did not have them on at all.
Makes you wonder wether it isd safer to have them on permanently than not at all, since it was obvious some people cannot work out when they should and should not, or was it that they don't want to be given a possible 'kevin' classification?
I wonder when car manufacturers will design a similar system to automatic wipers where fog lights automatically turn on when it is foggy.

....prepare to be flashed and generally cursed........especially if you drive a 3 series or Laguna, which are particularly dazzling to on-coming drivers.
Or do you turn your fogs off when meeting on-coming traffic?
I do hope that you never use fogs in heavy traffic...

Has anyone any suggestions where to go for the best quote for car insurance for a young female driver. Read more
Thanks for the info above. I came on the site to post a question and it looks like it has been answered.
I phoned Tesco and they have halved the quote given by our current insurers.
Our situation is that we have an au pair to help look after the kids. They tend to stay for a year only, but the current one left after 6 months and we are looking at an 18 year old French girl as a replacement. The car that they will drive is a '94 Micra 1.0.
The nightmare starts as they are all young drivers, have never driven in the country and most insurers won't look at us. It looks like we're 'fronting' as the car is registered in my name and would be insured as me as the main driver with the au pair as a named driver.
Has anyone else out there tried to insure a car for an au pair and who can they recommend?
Thanks-they were helpful but informed me that the hoses are dealer only.
