I have it on good authority that the Tank restoration was filmed over a 5 month period.

The owner of the vehicle worked on the project during those 5 months, getting the, ahem, "2 Weeks" of help from the Salvage Squad Team. The "2 weeks filming" was spread over the 5 month period.

Without the "time limit" 90% of the entertainment factor would be lost

I've only seen the Bristol car episode, the best moment was when Lee Hurst broke off that indicator switch ... the rest was just convoluted and processed tripe.

Quite disappointed with the program, as has already been pointed out, the Continuity Editor needs to work quite a bit harder!

Does anyone know where i might be able to get hold of a new or reconditioned exchange steering rack for an '89 VW Jetta 16v with power steering in the North East, particularly in the Newcastle area? VAG want £577 inc VAT, i cant afford that!

Honest John

Everyone I know who has fitted PAS to a Mk II 16v just fitted whatever PAS rack they could get, usually from a 1.8GL.

Amazing!
I've just seen an old triumph spitfire - painted up in red and yellow - the driver and passenger were dressed as noddy and big ears (albeit with sunglasses!)
I laughed so much I nearly wet myself!

Returning to Brunchstropp for a moment.............Before he was appointed Chief Con of North Wales, he was Assistant Chief Con in Cleveland. At that time, he needed to be in the public eye in his quest for promotion. He chose the subject of drugs, proposing that the "war" was lost and all drugs should be legalised.

Now he's Top Con in N Wales, his crusade against speed keeps him in the limelight.

When he gets to the Met, I wonder if he'll shut up and give us all a rest.................

I am considering learning to ride a bike but am a total novice with no experience. Is it possible to learn everything from CBT to passing your test on a 500cc machine in the space of a 5 day intensive course?, and what would the cost roughly be?, I'd hope to have some change out of 500 quid!

Any info greatly appreciated. Read more

Ian - Oh dear! I now realise that there may have been a *teensy-weensy* bit of ambiguity in my advice to Miller.

Now that you have been kind enough to point that out, whatever happened to the great outdoor image of all those Jaapies?

There are dribbles of a waxy substance on the alloys of our new car. Nothing seems to shift it, and it is getting grubby.
Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Andy. Read more

Marvellous example of what this site is all about.
Problem stated.

Just read that accountants Grant Thorton are predicting " A 1.5 % rise in VAT from 17.5% to 19%" in the coming Budget.

Clever, these folks! A 1.5% rise on 17.5% is actually an increase of 8.5%.

They did the same when raising it from 15% to 17.5%. Trumpeted a mere 2.5% increase when the true % increase was 16.6% Read more

I like the suggestion of columnist Peter McKay (noting the millions the Treasury will net from speeding fines) in today's Daily Mail - for a real rebellion by motorists against Govt-imposed sky high duties and taxes in UK .. perhaps the protest should it be built up gradually to reach a crescendo towards the next general election date? Why not?

I have just read Brett Frasers article about HGV overtaking, you know the kind, 3 miles of a wagon inching past on a dual carriageway. There is an uphill section of the A74 heading south from Glasgow where it is still only two lanes that this regularly happens. It has to be done as a wind-up because the damn things invariably slow to 40 mph and below as it's quite steep and when they evntually give up or get past the effect resembles a dose of Exlax as the traffic is released!

Rant over.

And do you believe they should also be fitted to cars, limited to 100 kph?

Having already tried all the usual avenues, can anyone please suggest where I might obtain a copy of, or gain access to, the workshop manual for the Mk2&3 Panda ? Any input much appreciated. Thanks. Read more

My Felicia GLi makes a growling noise ( apparently from the PAS) on full lock.
Any suggestions about possible causes?

Many thanks for your help! Read more

You're right, Alwyn. A power steering system is, essentially, an hydraulic servo system and with no "load" on the steering wheel there is equal pressure at both ends of the steering ram.

However, when you turn the steering wheel there is a very small amount of free play that uncovers a port allowing oil under pressure to one end of the ram. So if the steering is already hard over and you apply more steering wheel pressure you will keep this disproportionate pressure applied all the time. Either the belt will slip, or the pump will off-load (if it's fitted with a relief valve - not sure, here).

I have just had my first puncture since fitting my VW Passat with some nice Wolfrace Voodoo alloys when I purchased it last year. I have taken great care of the wheels and as has previously happened with other soft-line alloys I've owned the rim has got some bad scratching now as a result of having to remove the tyre from the rim to fix the puncture. I have tried several fast fit centres and all so far have inflicted some kind of marking with the tyre bar used to lever off the tyre. Has anyone else had this trouble as it's very annoying - does anyone have any suggestions as to how or who to go to stop it (I'm in Bognor, West Sussex)? Looking at the manual for the wheels it just says "for best results use equipment with a rotating head and an upper bead breaker that does not touch the wheel" so is that a specialist machine which most tyre centres don't have? Julian (and others),

Thanks for all the responses - what a great Forum this has turned out to be for helping find a way to solve this one! I hadn't thought of Halfords in Chichester but of course given that they now have a Ripspeed department it was an obvious one to try really.

My alloy is currently at the compay involved and I am awaiting a call back from the Area Manager as to what they are going to do. In restrospect less haste to find somewhere to get the puncture fixed would have been a good idea!

Regarding your alloys Julian as like me I am sure you will be reminded of the problem every time you wash your pride and joy, try ringing Dennis at Discount Tyres 01243-828512 (referenced in one of the other threads). I have known him for quite a few years now and he knows of a local alloy wheel refurbisher (Littlehampton I think) who should be able to return your rim to its former glory. As to his fitting equipment perhaps he does now have the same machine you described at Halfords - previously though one of my Wife's Golf alloy got marked there during a new tyre change but this was a while ago using a tyre bar on a machine where the tyre bead remover ran round the outside edge of the rim and not on the tyre itself - time I paid him another visit I think to check what he is now using !

Andrew.
