  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 advice please about replacing coolant 30 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have the dilemma of needing to change the coolant on my Ford Focus (Petrol). The car still has the original water pump but the timing belt has already been changed 18 months ago so I am very reluctant to change the water pump at this point unless it was actually leaking because of the cost of replacing the timing belt, tensioner, pulley and water pump all over again !
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.6 aluminium block big end change 29 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi, how many of you have tried a successful piston ring and/or big end bearing change on the alloy block se zetec engines. Ford recommend the bottom ends shouldn't be stripped but over the years I've done several. Most of the time the engines were heavy oil users, some went on to misfire; and some when stripped had burnt valves, and always stuck piston rings.

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 07 2.2 TDCI 155 Crankshaft pulley/timing chain ten 15 Jan 2009 (Forum)
My Mondeo has 31k on it, and will be 2 years old next month. I've just got it back from the local Ford dealer, where I'd left it with a 'rough idling when cold' problem. When I collected it, they told me it would need left back next week, to have the crankshaft pulley and timing chain tensioner replaced.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8tdci severe cold start problems 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)

Engine turns over and over and over and over and doesnt fire. • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.6 Engine idle issues 7 Jan 2009 (Forum)
When the engine is warm and I stop my 1999 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec I have encountered the following issue. The engine usually ticks over at around 800rpm however occasionally the revs jump to 1000rpm for a couple of seconds and then drops back to 800rpm for a few seconds over and over again.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Bad egg smell from exhaust pipe ? 24 Dec 2008 (Forum)
When I arrived home and my Ford Focus 1.8 (petrol) was idling I noticed a smell of bad eggs so I got out of the car and bent down to smell near the exhaust and I think it is coming from there. I have read on motoring websites that this can be caused by a bad catalytic converter and if so what other symptoms are hallmarks of a failing cat. converter.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 MK4 1.25 Zetec - Cam Belt Change 20 Dec 2008 (Forum)
This maintains the engine locked while the bolt is removed. Has anybody tried this? Is it a good method or is there a better way? Secondly, the Ford TIS states that the pulley must be withdrawn using a puller. Is there enough access for a standard 2 pronged puller? Is this really the case? Often crank pulleys just fall out easily. Thanks.

  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Power steering pump and fluid 28 Jul 2008 (Forum)
About a couple of years ago, I had to call the AA because my Ford Focus (petrol) had a power steering pump leak. The AA mechanic said that it was caused by a "pressure sensor leak". Because I couldn't drive the car to a garage to be repaired (the leak was too large), I had a mobile mechanic come to my house to do the work.
