My 306 needed new discs at 72000 mile service and at about 80000 miles I started to get severe break judder. Dealer changed discs under warranty but now... -
Mondeo Hand Brake 30 Jul 2001 (Forum)
We have two instances of Mondeos rolling downhill, even though handbrake was applied. Ford's response is that the driver clearly didn't read the handbook,... -
Skoda Fabia - Skoda Fabia frequent brake discs and pads problems 28 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I hve a 55 plate Skoda Fabia classic 1.2 petrol. Over the past 3-4 years it has repeatedly needed the brake pads and discs replacing. It starts with a grinding noise on the brakes when you first set off - especially after rain (my car is kept on the road) and once of twice it has felt like they have locked and car lurches before moving. -
vauxhall brakes 20 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Apparently they all do this, and no one else has noticed and they sell them by the hundred! I refuse to believe that anyone in his right mind would design a brake system to do this - quite apart from the safety and lack of confidence aspects, how can drivers control braking properly if the pedal keeps moving down - and what happens in a high speed stop, when the pedal hits the end of travel - inevitably taking some of the availble foot pressure - before the car stops? -
New brakes overheating - Citroen ZX 9 Aug 2006 (Forum)
(Also rear cylinders and shoes as these were poor.) The other day I had a loss of braking efficiency and a smell of friction material after coming down a big hill. I'd used a low gear to control speed but still had to brake fairly firmly behind a slow caravan. After parking shortly afterwards, I found that the offside front was very hot, considerably hotter than the nearside. -
RAV4 XT-R - Mot pass but with Monitor and repair 12 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Pass Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories) Shock absorbers has light misting of oil Offside Rear {5.3.2 (b)} Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (rear brake pipes covered in grease) {1.1.11 (c)} (under trays fitted obscuring some underside components ) I am rather worried about the corroded brake pipes bit. -
Is this car clocked? 18 May 2021 (Forum)
On the RAC website. It says brake pads can last anywhere between 30,000 and 70,000. Is it reasonable to assume this car has been clocked? -
Ford Fiesta - Squealing / squeaking tyres or brake discs? 6 Dec 2020 (Forum)
My car has recently exhibited these sounds, similar to nails down a blackboard. I'm aware that if brake pads are on their way out, it can create similar whistling sounds to give a warning to replace. However, I've initially only noticed this screeching noise when moving off from standing, but disappears once into third/fourth gears. -
Cars with electric parking brakes - Another hurdle for DIYers 2 Mar 2020 (Forum)
My 2005 Audi A8 is in need of new brake pads. On U-tube the fronts look as easy to do as any other pad change, but the rears apparently need electronic deactivation of the EPB otherwise you knacker the mechanism when winding back the caliper pistons. -
Mazda 3 - Poor (dangerous?) dealer advice 27 Nov 2018 (Forum)
They tooped up the reservoir and said it would be OK for s few months. There were no Mot advisories. Last night the dash brake light came on and the reservoir needed topped up. The fault cleared. The thing is the Mazda only has one reservoir shared by brake and clutch systems. Probably a common arrangement but not one I had ever considered I assume a leak in the clutch cylinder can therefore result in brake system failure? -
Grand scenic 1.9 DCI 2004 - Clutch issues 27 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Now after being recovered to the garage the recovery driver noticed a huge puddle of fluid on the bed of the truck. Turns out to be brake clutch fluid. I got in to release the handbrake and it came up with a brake fault. Are the brake and clutch the same? I mean do they use the same fluid? What's the chances of a hose coming loose and it not being the clutch? -
My van is daily 35s11 xlwb 2002 2.8 high top - Urgent advice needed re brake on a van 26 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Hi My van is daily 35s11 xlwb 2002 2.8 high top I am not sure what it is called, but there is a unit on the van which detects how much weight the van caries, that is disconnected i have just loading the van to the maximum, my question is does it now always think it it is fully laden and therefore the brakes will work now fully on the back or will it think, as it is disconnected, that the van is empty and only break a little on the rear and mostly on the front, which would be bad and i am going to Scotland Sunday with no time to fix it. -
VW Golf Mk4 2003 120k miles - Weird Electrical Fault 5 Mar 2017 (Forum)
The EPC light on the dash has been on for last two weeks and just noticed the fuse 34 'for engine management ' is missing from the main fuse box and the fuse holder bits look in a bad state. Sometimes the high beam and brake lights stay on even when the car is turned off and keys taken out. When I tried putting the fuse in there, again the high beam lights came on. The computer is displaying two codes: P0571 (Brake switch circuit) and P0135 ( o2 sensor heater circuit) The brake lights seem to work fine ( other than when the high beam is on, they stay on as well. -
Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 01 2.0 Siezed front brake discs 28 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Hi, Tried to change the front brake discs on my Picasso today only to find them siezed on the hub. Tried tapping them with a plastic faced mallet, as suggested in Haynes manual, without any effect. The discs need changing ready for MOT later this week but I can't risk damaging them thus preventing me from driving to a garage to get them changed if I can't complete the job myself. -
KIA Picanto - Kia warranty 6 May 2016 (Forum)
We drive frequent short journeys - 1300 miles in the past year. Had a full service (independent dealer) last summer and we replaced front brake pads and discs but they didn't mention anything on the rear brakes. The car failed the MOT today and apparently the rear brake calipers have seized. The bill would be 500£ (including VAT) for replacing the pads, discs, calipers, draining the system and replacing fluids, and the labour. -
MK5 Golf - Brake Pad Warning light 12 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I have just bought a mk5 golf and there is a warning light dislplayed to do with the brake pads, however they dont need replaced! I have read up previously about cutting the plug on the pads to close the circuit, however the passenger side has been closed previously and the drivers side appears to be a single wire going to the wheel speed sensor alone? -
SEAT Alhambra - Power loss to engine and brakes 15 Feb 2015 (Forum)
There is an obvious intermittent loss of power to the engine where it feels like there is literally nothing in the engine. Also the brakes are unresponsive- not completely failing but need really pushing to stop. There is no power to 3 of the electric windows and a terrible noise when steering. My mechanic wants me to bin the car but has advised I replace the vacuum pump, maf sensor and belt tensioner to bring the car back online. -
Renault Scenic Hissing from under Brake 17 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Over time it got louder, so I popped my head down to where the noise was coming from. I discovered a set of Bellows mounted behind the Brake pedal, had a gentle fiddle and was satisfied that the Bellows were leaking. Interestingly enough Renault Workshop claim that it is the Servo unit that is at fault and requires replacement and could take around 5 hours. -
VW Polo 1.4 - 2001 - Brake Disc Recommendation 11 Jun 2014 (Forum)
GSF have 4 makes of disc available 2 of which I've heard of. Pagid @ £15.90 (reduced from £22.50 Eicher Brakes @ £10.33 Textar @ £18.60 Bosch @ £19.14 Question - which one would you buy. I do about 10k miles a year, mainly motorway and fast A roads and obviously safety is paramount to me, but is the most expensive the better disc? -
Mazda MX-5 1.8 NB 2004 - MX-5 Binding Brake 18 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Further investigation revealed one very hot front wheel, the other wheels where all normal. Braking remains effective as far as slowing down is concerned. I removed the caliper checked slide pins and fit of pads - all looked perfectly okay. However, the problem remains after refitting the caliper and pads.
