Dirty Petrol Alert 3 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Hi all Just heard on the local (northwest) news that there has been a spate of people breaking down because of dirty petrol (cloudy is the best description). The report stated that the petrol had been purchased from a supermarket, not from a franchised forecourt. Regards Jonathan -

Can HJ please advise what engine oil I should use to top up. Are supermarkets' own brands - being cheap - worthwhile? Many thanks indeed, frmarcus -
Cheap petrol - 69.9 pence per litre 17 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I filled up at the weekend with the cheapest petrol I've seen for ages - 69.9 pence per litre. There was no catch and no supermarket shopping to do either to get this price. It was, unfortunately, only available over the weekend, though. Is the the cheapest petrol at the moment? -

Derv AND 2 star mix up 2 Jan 2004 (Forum)
As reported in the local press this week, the following occurred at a supermarket in Surrey. Diesel was delivered into their Unleaded tanks. Later admitted that \"we did have a problem with the diesel as well.\" I assume that was Petrol delivered into the Diesel tanks. \"customers who had diesel put into petrol cars will be fully compensated but if it happened the other way round it is different\" \"If more than 20 per cent of petrol was filled in to a diesel tank then it would cause damage to the car\" A customer complained after getting fuel that \"it sounded really weird\" so went to their garage who told her not to drive it. -
British cards in French petrol pumps 22 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Just returned from a pretty extensive jaunt around South and South West France and I thought it was worth passing on that, after a few experiments on my part, it now appears Super U and Leclerc supermarket petrol stations are now equipped to take UK 'chip and pin' debit and credit cards in their 24-hour pumps. In my experience the Leclerc ones now have a sticker on them saying they take Mastercard and Visa, but not Visa Electron (whatever that is). -
Comparison of brands of Petrol/Diesel 24 May 2003 (Forum)
There seems to be a recurring debate as to whether there really is a benefit to the branded fuels recommended by HJ (Texaco & Shell) compared to supermarket... -

Petrol Head 6 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Taylor terrorised supermarket staff and customers after sniffing petrol and cutting pipes at Asda in the South Bank area and dancing around the forecourt. Teesside Magistrates Court heard customers had been soaked in petrol. -

which fuel (petrol) 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The testers did reproduce the misfire, but said they could find nothing actually faulty with the car; but had noticed a bit of a green glaze on the plugs, and they asked me if I used supermarket petrol, as they'd seen another car with similar-looking plugs, and that one had used s'mkt petrol. As it happened, with my job/residence/routine during the entire period of owning both the Uno and the AX, I filled up every week, regular as clockwork, at the supermarket's filling station immediately after doing my shopping (their petrol was cheaper, plus you got extra points on the s'mkt loyalty card). -
Disappearing garages 23 May 2003 (Forum)
Will we all have to eventually drive miles out of our way, and queue for interminable periods, to fill up with petrol? Or is it simply that the supermarkets are winning the battle for our petrol money? -
Petrol / Diesel capacity. 21 Aug 2008 (Forum)
A long established supermarket nearby occaisionlly runs out of diesel, the new one down the road doesnt, even when super market 1 runs out and it has increased demand. Does anyone know if new refueling stations have a more even Petrol / Diesel storage split to reflect current use. -

Fuel confused 28 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Having just changed jobs and faced with a 150(!) mile commute daily I'm looking at what the best petrol is to help keep my '98 Escort healthy. All the petrol companies go on about increased lubrication, cleaning, etc, but is there really any difference between putting top grade(eg,BP Ultimate)in, or will I get the same result with supermarket petrol and a bottle of Redex at every tank refill? -
