  • Megane Brakes warning 14 May 2004 (Forum)
objectid=14223088&method=full&siteid=86024 For any new shape Megane drivers, above is an article from today's paper on a problem that has been discovered whereby the passenger can activate the brakes due to them being modified from left hand drive. Worth being wary about until a modification is made.
  • Polo Brakes 28 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hi Changed the Front Pads on a 1998 1600cc Polo Yesterday afternoon. everything went fine till I drove the car their seems to be excessive brake travel before stopping. Their doesn't appear to be any air in the system haven't lost any fluid. So im wondering if the pads will eventually bed in and hopefully take up som of the slack. Or is this common on Polos ?
  • Toyota 2.2 Diesel Brake Servo Pump 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone help. I have a Toyota 2.2 Turbo Diesel Town Ace 1995 import. There is no brake servo assistance until I have driven for about 2 miles. The servo is not leaking so I suspect the vacuum pump. Can anyone offer me advice on how to overhaul this unit. Thanks KELVIN

  • Citroen ZX (1992 - 1998) - 93 1.9D Grinding clattering noise on braking! 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I have this grinding noise when I brake that gets louder and deeper the more I push the pedal ending in a kind of grinding clattering noise as I stop. I have had the problem with the brake calipers seizing before which made a similar noise but I had them replaced (and all the other bits that burnt out as a result) last March so I dont think its that - also, the brakes actually work, its just noisy!
  • Diesel on road 3 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I came over the crest of a hill near Exeter at about 65MPH, only to see the traffic in front of me stationary. I stamped hard on the brakes, only to find the car (Xsara) immediately skidded violently to the left and into the left hand lane. I'd just been overtaking another car and fortunately I was clear of him. Anyway - I let off the brake pedal and managed to get out of the skid (I really thought for a moment I was going to the big scrapyard in the sky, along with the car...) and gently applied the brakes to come to a halt.
  • Golf brake failure 3 20 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Also; don't they rebuild faulty brake components with new seals any more? Also; what price the service manager's comment about seals turning in empty systems?
  • Nissan Qashqai - Pitted brake discs on 4 year old car 11 Jun 2016 (Forum)
My father in law visited at the weekend and he took a look at the brakes and could feel a ridge around the rim and said the brakes are badly pitted - he has a background in mechanics. He said this is normally caused by a car standing unused for a long period of time - we were aware that Qashqai had been exchanged months before we bought it.
  • Any - Bubble Bubble, Boiling Brake Fluid Trouble. 8 Jul 2015 (Forum)
http://www.forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=149612#p1692651 Current issue is a bit of a 'tis/t'isnt on whether brake fluid boiling in, say the rear brakes is likely to kill the master cylinder (I assume by transferred heat and/or pressure). I say it isn't likely, but I don't know this for a fact, and may be suffering from wishful thinking.
  • Ford Ka - Brake performance 23 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Been trying for some weeks to improve the brakes on my daughters 2004 Ka. The pedal travel seems excessive and the braking efficiency seems poor. Took many attempts to remove the front bleed nipples. Been soaking in penetrating fluid every weekend with no success.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.25 Multiple bulbs light on braking 11 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Something for the electrically minded..... My wife was following me yesterday and noticed that my rear off side indicator glowed when braking. On further inspection today, I can see that that all three off side indicator bulbs glow constantly when the brakes are applied, as does the off side tail light. They take a couple of seconds to build up but are still well under half full brightness.
  • Daihatsu Charade (2003 - 2006) - 03 1.0 Brakes still sticking 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
This time it went into a Daihatsu dealer who checked all the brakes and discovered that the handbrake linkage was seized. They sorted that and for a week all was fine. Then I started to get an squeak again from one of the front wheels which doesnt happen everytime and seems to happen especially when the brakes have been on for more than a few seconds, such as waiting at traffic lights.
  • Mini TLC servicing - what is missed? 11 Feb 2006 (Forum)
It is now 3 years old and needed an MoT and they take it to the local friendly independent round the corner and it fails. Reason? Brakes - a piston in a rear caliper has seized and only one side of the disk is contacted by the brake pads. Result - poorer braking (not noticed by the driver as ABS etc looks after this aspect and driver does not brake heavily normally) The result of this is a corroded disk and a a re-test after it is fixed.
  • Peugeot 406 1.9TD 1996 Brake Servo 6 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I glad to report that this advice was excellent and (knock on wood) we have now done 40,000 miles on that repair with no trouble. Anyhow- to today's challenge, I want to change the brake servo as the brake pedal sinks slowly to the floor with the engine running and I have heard in a few places this is a likely cause (I've redone all of the brakes and checked most other things). I'll do a few more checks this weekend (it's off the road 'til I'm sure it is OK) but I'd love to hear from someone that has changed a brake servo on a 406 diesel.
  • Ford Mondeo Estate 06 2litre petrol - Brake light problem 19 May 2013 (Forum)
The brake lights come on briefly each time I depress the clutch. If I pull back on the brake pedal with the toe of my shoe, the problem goes away briefly but returns at some point after braking again. I think there is a sensor issue, but I've taken it into Frauds who, typically, found no problem...
  • Ford Mondeo ST 2.2 TDCi - Brakes 4 May 2012 (Forum)
Took calipers off, cleaned, painted, renewed all seals, put calipers back on.  Repeated on all four corners then bled the system - no brakes.  Bled several more times - still  no brakes. Eventually got to a point where there were some breaks but after a point the pedal lost all pressure and fell away.  This lead me to suspect there was a problem with the master cylinder.
  • Nissan Primera II (1996 - 1999) - 99 - ABS problem 16 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I own a Nissan Primera '99 2.0 Sport which recently had an unusual major brake problem. As far as I understood - I had a problem where my brake fluid dropped without any warning. The whole system on one side of the vehicle was replaced and new brake pads were put on the back.
  • Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 02 1.8T After new timing belt & clutch, brakes fau 29 Nov 2008 (Forum)
After having shelled out loads of dosh for a new timing belt and tensioner and a new clutch yesterday you can imagine my dismay when the brakes started applying themselves out of the blue. i.e. I was driving along as normal and all of a sudden it was as though someone else was braking at random. Taking my foot off the accelertor and slowing down momentarily got things back to normal, although as I drove back home after it started happening, it felt as though there was continually some light breaking being applied as well as the intermittent heavier braking.
  • Rover 600 brake lights 29 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Anyway, the other night around 2200 the car was moved approximately 10mtrs. At around 0400 my father noticed that the brake lights were still illuminated. He went to check the car, and found the brake lights giving off a lot of heat. After checking that the brake pedal wasn't stuck. He checked the clusters by banging them one by one.
  • Rover 416 Brake Problem 14 Jul 2003 (Forum)
It was sold with a new MOT and has only done 200 miles since so there's no way the pads should have worn....any ideas what it could be? It hardly sounds with light braking in traffic, and not really at all with heavy emergency type braking, only really with normal braking...and gets slightly louder as the car comes to a halt...The only thing I could think it was is dust maybe but after that small amount of mileage even dust shouldnt be a problem should it?
