• Hyundai i20 - Torque settings for brake calipers 5 Jan 2014 (Forum)
  I have the workshop manual for Hyundai and I am looking at the torque settings for the front brake calipers.  It gives the value for the pins as  21.6 ~ 31.4N.m. Why have they given a range rather than a fixed value?  So what should it really be?!?

  Whenever there is a road safety discussion on the radio (well BBC anyway) and TV the pressure group Brake is always invited on to comment, but why? It is obvious what their opinion will be, reduce speeds is their only solution to every motoring safety problem. The organisation is neither objective or offers any serious solutions so why are they taken so seriously by program makers?

  Today I went to start it after it had been stationary for 4 days and it would seem that the rear nearside brake has bound on. The car now won't move. What can I do?! I need to move it!

  Hand brake lever is loose at the top part and need to get to the spring to adjust. Most car have a screw you take off and the sleeve comes off but the 2006 Citroen C5 doesn't seem to have one. Anybody knows how?

  While inspecting the offside brake disc I noticed it is pitted on one side when jacked up the car thee was resistance as if the caliper is seized. The pitting is only on the inside of the disc. Not the wheel side. Could this be the slide that is seized or is it more likely to be the piston?

  Question if my car was left to stand for six weeks and the brake discs rusted up would this affect a test on my brakes and by what margin. Also if one of my rear brake cylinder seized could it be because it was left to stand for six weeks without been used

  apparently my golf was fitted with either vw or Girling front brake calipers. how can i tell which is fitted to mine?

  Does the screw in rear brake adjuster stop turning when it is fully in or does it just keep turning. I can not get enough clearance for the new pads and disk. Regards Peter

  The problem I have is that when driving along the brakes seem to seize up after about 10 minutes. I pull over for a couple of minutes and then the car seems to drive ok. Please help.

  followed an Astra 2 nights back that had those new brake lights that flash when you stand on the middle pedal hard........are all cars getting them i.e. new legislation or is it a newish gimmick filtering in? as an aside, i still can't get on with Vauxhall indicators.... they're infuriating
• Banging underneath when braking in wet? 29 May 2007 (Forum)
  I have an X reg Zafira 1.8 Elegance with 30K miles. When I apply the brakes in the wet, there is a banging sound (just the once) underneath somewhere. Doesn't do it in the dry. Any ideas please - could it be an ABS\Traction Control fault? Thanks. Dave.

  My 2nd car (Escort) failed MOT today on two corroded front brake pipes. My regular garage is closed at weekends, does anyone know the average cost to replace these? My garage is very cheap labour wise so will be on the low side I hope! Cheers

  I have an intermittent fault, I hear 3 beeps, the ABS warning light comes on and the brake warning light flashes. It happens only when the car is warm or if I go to start it when it's been standing in hot sun. Thanks for any clues

  SWMBO's car went into the garage today because of ringing sound on the front pads, which came on and off when I braked. Garage fitted new pads. I was told that this is a new wear warning mechanism when the pads are on their way out. Whatever happened to the old warning light mechanism?? H

  I have a Corsa which is exactly 2 years old ('52 plate) - how many miles should I do before getting the brake pads, drums, discs changed? Is there a Vauxhall standard? Is a Vauxhall dealer the best place to get this done if its needed?

  Good afternoon folks. Can someone answer me a question please? Do brake pads still contain asbestos? I only ask because I thought they didn't but I saw some the other say that said "Asbestos Free" leading me to believe that others aren't. Thank you, Milhouse
