  • Toyota Auris (2007 - ) - Squeaky Brakes 17 Dec 2009 (Forum)
When I said that I hoped that this wasn't going to be a recurring issue, I was told that many manufacturers were having similar issues due to the modern composition of brake parts. Has anyone else had similar issues?

  • Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - 01 2.0D Brake master cylinder problem 23 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi, Hoep somebody can help... Just changed the rear brake pads and didn't loosen the bleed nipples before pushing the pistons back but did loosen filler cap on the fluid reservoir. Now the brake pedal is firm at first but slowly sinks to the floor, so the brakes are not working.
  • Autos - left foot braking query 25 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Was looking to buy an auto anyway. My experiences of using the left foot to brake are that you almost fly through the windscreen as your foot is used to clutch pressure. How viable is it to learn to use left foot? Anyone here brake with their left foot when driving an auto?
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.0 Screaming rear brakes 28 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I purchased my 04 TDCi 115 in Sept 07 and from the beginning the rear brakes would intermittantly squeal, but not under braking - if anything that stopped the problem. At it's next service in Mar 08 the local dealership advised me the discs were binding and so i had new ones fitted.
  • Golf Mk3 brake unions 23 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I'm just about to tackle replacing the brake pipes (they are corroded) on a Mk3 Golf. Looking at the 6-way union block in front of the bulkhead where the 2-in and 4-out pipes go it appears they are all M10 brake unions as you would expect...except one.
  • Mitsubishi Evo 8.Sticking rear brakes. 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
My brother-in-law has got a 53 plate Evo 8,bought from new,and went away for a short holiday last week, but before he went,he washed the car,and then parked it up in his garage, after taking it for a short spin,to dry the car,and the brakes out. He came home today, and the back brakes had locked on,(ala Vauxhall drum brakes.) and will not come off.he says it's done it before, but not this bad. Is this a common fault with this car,and is it the usual thing, where a fault develops with a vehicle, and the manufacturer keeps schtum?
  • Judder under braking. Subaru Legacy. 8 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Over the past few months I have noticed a judder under braking, especially noticeable under slow braking, as it seems connected to wheel rotation. My local mechanic suggested new front discs and pads, as my \'97 Legacy estate had 85k miles on the original discs and he thought they may be warped. When changed, the pads still had plenty of life, and I was told that the discs could only be checked for warping on a special machine?
  • Urgent Question - Brake Problem. 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I am a non-technical person so need comments, please, on the following fairly basic question. This morning I had some work done on N/S/R brake drum. The mechanic took O/S/R wheel off as well and later told me that he had adjusted both brakes. I then did a 50 mile high speed journey before calling at a tyre depot. The fitter there drew my attention to the fact that O/S/R wheel was very hot...binding brake??!!
  • Hyundai i20 2009 - Front brake calipers mounting bolts removal. 7 Sep 2024 (Forum)
I went to replace the front brake pads and brake disks on my car for the first time since buying it. The bottom bolt is standard hexagonal head and the top bolt is a completely round head. I thought the top bolt was damaged, so i checked the bolts on the other caliper and they are exactly the same, hexagonal head on the bottom bolt and the top bolt is completely round.
  • VW Passat B7 - hand brake module 2 Jan 2022 (Forum)
Hi all, I've read about the passat electronic hand brake module (which includes the buttons for auto hold and ABS) - mine works but the hand brake button has become loose so the button stays down and you have to pull it back up.  I can't find anywhere that sells new units, only one in Lithuania, the rest are used ones on ebay.
  • Hyundai i40 Tourer - rear Brake Pad fitting 8 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Has anyone any experience in fitting these brake pads? If so Can it be done outside the dealers workshops and if so how do you readjust the handbrake.?
  • Mitsubishi Outlander - brake calipers seizing 9 Mar 2017 (Forum)
have been told it might be some kind of an active brake system applying to much pressure and not fully releasing espacially as its front and rear opposing calipers. No faults showing on dash.
  • Honda Accord - Park Brake Efficiency fail 22 May 2015 (Forum)
Hello Eveyone :-) Failed MOT on Park Brake efficiency. i.e. Handbrake isn't holding well enough. Have rear discs fitted on this car. MOT guy suggested there could be an issue with the calipers sticking/not working properly. Now surely if that were the case the brake pedal test would have failed also, no?
  • Skoda Fabia - Vibrations Through Steering Wheel when Braking 5 Aug 2012 (Forum)
My Skoda Fabia 1.9 SDI had vibrations though the Steering Wheel when Braking Softly at low speeds. There was no vibration through the Brake Pedal. I was advised to get my Discs and Pads Changed so I got this done and the Vibrations are still there. There is also a clunking noise when I hit a bump and the Front left tyre is worn on the inside each.
  • Skoda Fabia 1.9 SDI 2001 - Refurbishing Rear Brakes and Drums - Cleaning 25 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I have just dismantelled the rear brake drums and shoes as the wheel cylinder had bust and fluid got contact with the shoes. How do I go about cleaning out the the rear brake system? I have took it all apart and have cleaned the automatic adjuster etc but still has some rust patches on it.
  • FIAT Grande Punto - Brakes self - applying during a journey 27 Jan 2012 (Forum)
For no apparent reason my Grande Punto (1.9 turbo deisal) applies the brakes and stops during journeys. If I turn off the engine and wait 5 or 10 min you can then drive again. Have changed the brake hoses, the Calipers and had it checked on a number of occasions by Fiat and Halfords.
  • Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 - Brake Problem MECHANIC STUMPED 23 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi All I have a 2003 Diesel Mazda 6. At low revs the brake pedal goes rock hard which is cured by revving the engine a couple of times. My local garage has already replaced the Master cylinder, Servo Unit and Vacuum Pump. There appears to be no problem with the brake lines or pads etc.
  • Renault Scenic - Renault Scenic 1.5 dci Brake problem 15 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I helped my dad change the front brake pads on his Scenic and after we had finished, we tested it and found the brake pedal had become spongey. We completely bled the system so it now has nothing but fresh oil in it and it is still spongey.
  • Peugeot 306 HDI 2.0 2001 - brake pressure 9 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Amongst many ongoing ECU/Limp mode problems my most concerning is this: The brakes are often a bit jammed when starting a journey with a little jolt sensed as you move off. As well as this the brake pedal is hard and much less effective for a few minutes and then returns to normal operation.
