  • MINI Cooper and Cooper S - How safe are our Classic Cars? 11 Dec 2015 (Forum)
It certainly needs someone to wake up those who can influence positive outcomes before their are fatalities involving classic cars.

  • Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - 07 1.4 Head Gasket/Water Coolant/Engine failure 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I'm not silly and no that they are going to get out of this as it looks as though its going to be a big job and they may have to replace the engine. I'm so annoyed as the car is so young and the recovery guy said this normally happens on cars 10 years old. I've had problem after problem with this car since i've had it and this could end up costing me a fortune (2K plus), do you think i have a case to take this futher?
  • SAAB 9-3 (2007 - ) - Saabs gone downhill, or rose tints at work? 1 May 2008 (Forum)
Wind forward a decade or so, and SWMBO is off on one of her occasional business trips. As usual the company have provided a hire car for her, and as it was short notice, they've given her the only car they had available, a beautiful black 08 plate 9-3 Aero Sportwagon auto. As I grabbed the keys to go for a drive, I felt a pang of anticipation and excitement that no car in years has provided.

I need a 4x4 with a high seating position but only cover about 8000 miles a year. I have been offered a good deal on a BMW X1 20d. Do BMWs have the same...
  • Mitsubishi Shogun 2008 SWB Diesel - Shogun Missbehaving 12 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Is this Engine management problems, faulty injection, any ideas would be gratefully received, I am 99% happy with my car and she has not missed a beat other than this problem, I have covered 24,000 miles on the speedo. I  always try NOT to do short journeys as I was warned about the PDF, Ohh I do not get ANY warning lights come up when the fault occurs, and of course the garage could not repeat the fault.

  • Peugeot 306 HDI Dturbo Vreg - Peugeot 306 HDI Dturbo starting and idling fault 27 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I don't want to go throwing money at it so I hope someone reading this has had the same issues and can help me. I am in the car trade working in bodyshops with a mechanical background and I have a mate with a snapon scanner. We put the scanner on, cleared all the codes, ran the engine for a bit and then the code that came back was P1404 Pre-heating/Additional heating; circuit 2 - error.
  • Bye CR-V, hello… 9 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Three years ago we bought a new CR-V and I have to say it was a good car. The only problems were the rear diff making a “groaning” noise, this was sorted by changing the diff oil for a different spec. All four alloys started to bubble so were replaced. The worst problem was the battery going flat.
  • Ford focus 02 1.6 Zetec - Loosing power steering fluid after MOT 10 Jul 2010 (Forum)
A quick glance at the levels (when cold) showed the power steering reservoir severely depleted.  A quick glace at the road underneath the car revealed a rapidly growing pink puddle of power steering fluid.   Having paid the MOT garage for some ford P/S fluid, (MC2 195-A, £20 a bottle, if you're wondering) I've filled it up and run it for a few minutes and the poorly sounding pump sounds a lot happier.
  • Extended warranty 12 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Thats what i like about this warranty " NOTHING" This company actually needs to be taken to the High court in strand London to change the law, because this warranty is actually encouraging people with a low IQ to drive around with a faulty car to destruction and may find themselves doing life in prison.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 98, 16v X20EV petrol auto. Shudder on idle. 12 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Got a vectra 98 auto 2 litre petrol - any help much appreciated. So far garages can't help, have charged me but no joy. Problem is at idle, car idles when engine warm with jolts. These jolts are also evident as slowing down stopping. Once stopped for more than a few secs jolts and perhaps nearly cutting out is evident. Had this 2 months now.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 2001 2.2 - Timing Chain Gone For The 2nd Time 23 Jan 2008 (Forum)
    Many thanks EDIT: I have since read a thread on the z22se forums and some say the chain will be covered for 60k or 6 years whichever comes first. True or False? {couple of small edits to generalise names of garages, rather than specifically name them. DD}
  • Lane discipline - a dying art? 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Not much fun when you have 120 miles to drive, and have already covered 360 miles that day (not all driven by me I add). It's clear that the 5-lane stretch of the M25 round by Heathrow will be wasted, to get a true 5-lane you would have to go up to a physical 8-lane layout.....
  • Good Customer Service 30 Jun 2006 (Forum)
No movement so I thought probably looking at a new wiper motor £100 or so including fitting- I thought well I have had a good run , the first problem with the car in four years and that was not covered in warranty. I decided to drop in to my local Honda dealer on the way to work and asked if somebody could have a quick look. Mechanic came out , very friendly ,I explained what had happened , he checked it over , squirted the rear washer and then proceeded to wipe the water over the rear screen with his hands , lifted the wiper , put it back on the screen and it worked.
  • Box van worries 14 Apr 2006 (Forum)
The truck was supposed to be delivered at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. In actual fact it, it's just been delivered now. The two drivers have parked it in my flat car park, reversing it rather hard into a hedge to try and make it fit, have given me the keys and left. I have no paperwork of any sort, and although I have rung their office and had confirmed that my rental doesn't start until Saturday morning in the period between the delivery drivers ringing and them actually getting here, I'm feeling rather exposed.
  • Fiesta 1.416v Zetec Won't Start 29 Dec 2005 (Forum)
All fluids are fine and nothing seems obviously out of place. There is fuel in the tank. From the problem first occuring to the car conking out- cover and the cams are turning so nothing like the cam belt it doesn't seem. I haven't checked to see if there's a spark. I haven't checked if the fuel filter is clogged or something like that.
  • 306 1.8 idle control valve 5 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Everything pointed to the idle control valve getting gummy, so I undid the two torx screws and withdrew it from the throttle body. The valve itself (a rod with a chamfered end) was indeed covered in a gummy residue that looked like mixing pencil graphite with old engine oil, so I wiped it dry, carefully cleaned it with Gunk, dried it, cleaned the rod's mating chamfered face in the throttle body with a clean and dry cloth, then put it back together and reconnected the wiring plug.
  • Focus TDCi smoke problems 25 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, further to my post in discussion, I've just picked up a 53 reg Focus TDCi that seemed to smoke quite heavily when accelerating under load, especially in second. On the way home we got stuck in a bad traffic jam that took the best part of 2 hours to cover 6 miles, whilst in this jam I noticed it was even worse, emitting huge clouds during the little bits of progress that we made, as I put it into second (at quite a low speed) and put my foot down, out came all the smoke.
