Faulty air con - should the dealer pay for the repairs?

I own a 2007 SEAT Leon, which I have had since new. The car has covered 82,000 miles and has a full service history.

The air con was working at 78,000 miles when I took the car to a SEAT garage for a big service. The garage changed the air con high pressure sensor to stop a "squeak". However, I found the air con not to work shortly after the service. I took the car back to garage, but they were unable to fix it.

I took the car to another other local SEAT garage for a second opinion and diagnosis. Within two hours they diagnosed a failed air con compressor and charged me for their time.

SEAT UK customer services were initially helpful however, they have decided not to offer any goodwill after all. Estimate to replace compressor including labour is £800.

1. I am disappointed. Might there be another way to approach SEAT?
2. Is there an alternative option? Air con helps clear misted windows however would a dashboard heater help avoid misting in winter by heating the windscreen quickly?
