    MotorDrive Live takes place over the bank holiday weekend 24th-26th May at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire. Manufacturers offering cars for testing by the public are Alfa Romeo, Caterham, Chrysler (including Jeep), Citroen, FBS (Census V6 – see car by car breakdown), FIAT, Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar, Lotus, Mazda, MG, Nissan, Rover, SAAB, SMART, Vauxhall (including the new Meriva) and Volvo.
  • A Grand Monday: MG Maestro 2.0 EFi 2 Dec 2019 (News)
    It’s also a 2.0 EFi - the best one. According to the vendor, the car will need some welding, but it’s obvious from the pictures that it’s nowhere near as bad as the average Maestro, with intact wheelarches and complete sills. It will need carpets, which could prove a challenge, but overall it’s a car with bags of potential and one that’s increasingly rare.
  • SEAT extends scrappage scheme 15 Jan 2018 (News)
    SEAT's scrappage scheme has been extended until the end of March, which means buyers can save up to £3500 on selected new cars when they trade-in their old diesel.  SEAT Scrappage is available on both new petrol and diesel cars and savings start from £1500 for the Mii city car and rise to £2500 for the Ibiza compact hatchback.

  • Healey family automobilia heads to auction 17 Aug 2017 (News)
    They will be offered at Bonhams’ Goodwood Revival sale on 9 September. A speed record holder, accomplished rally driver, car designer and founder of the Healey Motor Company, Donald Healey changed the landscape of British car design. In total, 75 lots will go across the block. They include signed books, diaries, unseen concept car artwork, and scratch-built models.
  • Italian Job Minis return to Crystal Palace 9 May 2016 (News)
    Now fans will be able to see the cars on a static display at the event, with the trio of Minis taking to the track for a parade lap at lunchtime on both days. Around 150 cars from racing and rallying spanning more than 100 years of motoring will be at this year’s show, ranging from pre-war vintage to modern day.
  • Silverstone Auctions to host its first international sale 10 Feb 2016 (News)
    Around 100 classic cars will go under the hammer over two days in a new auction at a motorsport festival in Denmark in May. The sale at the Classic Race Aarhus will take place on 28-29 May and be hosted by Silverstone Auctions and Lauritz.com, Scandinavia’s largest online auctioneer.
  • Peugeot 205 GTi named as best hot hatch at Autosport show 15 Jan 2016 (News)
    The Peugeot 205 GTi has been named as the best hot hatch at the Autosport Show, which opened yesterday, Thursday, 14 January. The announcement was made by three-time British Touring Car Champion Matt Neal as he revealed the winner of a global poll. It beat nine cars to the title and is part of a display called ‘Evolution of the Hot Hatch’, which features a stunning collection of iconic cars that have defined the genre.
  • Volkswagen Golf GTI Campaign heads to auction 20 Oct 2015 (News)
    This 1983 Volkswagen Golf GTI Campaign model could sell for between £4500 and £6000 when it goes under the hammer later this month. The car, which is for sale at Barons Autumn Classic on 27 October, comes with 11 months’ MoT. It has been owned by the seller for two years and in that time has covered 5000 miles, taking the current mileage to 88,591. According to the vendor, the car drives well and the bodywork is in good condition.
  • Janis Joplin's iconic Porsche heads to auction 16 Sep 2015 (News)
    The psychedelically-painted Porsche once owned by legendary singer Janis Joplin is to be sold at auction in New York in December. The car, a 1965 365C 1600 Cabriolet could fetch more than £250,000 when it goes under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s Driven by Disruption sale before Christmas. Originally finished in Pearl White, a friend of Joplin’s painted the car’s kaleidoscopic mural.
  • Barn find Bentley doubles its estimate at Beaulieu sale 7 Sep 2015 (News)
    A 1929 Bentley 4½-litre, recently unearthed from a family barn after 30 years sold for more than double its estimate at auction over the weekend. The car sailed past its £300,000 estimate at Bonhams sale at the Beaulieu International Autojumble to eventually sell for £695,900. According to Bonhams, the vendor only recently found the car gathering dust in his grandfather’s garage. Rob Hubbard, Bonhams motoring specialist, said, ‘It was an incredible discovery; the chassis, engine, axle, gearbox, steering box numbers are all present and correct, the interior is completely original in wonderful green leather. For a car that’s over 80 years old, it’s truly astounding.’ The vendor’s grandfather purchased the Bentley in 1935 and is known to have used it for family holidays throughout the 1930s and 1940s.
  • Ex-Nicolas Cage Bugatti could make £1.3m at auction 3 Sep 2015 (News)
    A 1954 Bugatti 101 that used to belong to actor Nicolas Cage could fetch £1.3m when it goes under the hammer at the weekend. The car, one of only six 101s built (and the only one featuring this particular Antem-designed coachwork), will be offered at Bonhams’ Chantilly Sale in France on 5 September. It’s believed that Cage purchased the Bugatti around the time he starred in the film, Gone in Sixty Seconds - a cinematic homage to the allure of rare and beautiful motor cars.

    DS Sawdon said, ‘We’re still trying to find out why the car was there. I suspect it was stolen but it might have been there for so long that we’ll never know.’ 
  • Classic car auction sales hit record high 1 Jul 2015 (News)
    More classic cars are being sold at auction than ever before with sales accounting for £350m so far this year, according to new research. Figures released by market expert ClassicCarPrice.com  show 4600 vehicles went under the hammer in the first six months of the year.
  • Rover fans flock to Pride of Longbridge 29 Apr 2015 (News)
    This year’s PoL was the biggest ever with more than 4000 cars and 10,000 visitors. Packed with great cars and great people, many of whom used to work at Longbridge, it's a must-do event for any Rover fan. Organiser Gemma Cartwright MBE told us, '2015 was the biggest so far.

    In the former Dave Price Racing and Tom Walkinshaw Racing car, Nedell will take on another SD1 – this one 1982-spec Rover 3500 SD1 in the Sanyo livery made famous by Jeff Allam’s British Touring Car. Also in the race will be: Philip Perryman’s 1977 UFO Jeans BMW 530i and Duncan McKay’s BP Ford Capri III 3.0S.

    Entries are now open for the 2015 MSA Spring Classic – a scenic tour for classic car fans that takes place over the weekend of 25-26 April.   • Rare Mercedes convertible could sell for £250,000 4 Nov 2014 (News)
    Bought by the current vendor in the UK 11 years ago, it was exported to Australia where it was later treated to a five-year restoration costing more than $200,000. ‘This is a beautiful example of the car many regard as one of the finest in the world - rarely do we see a car that has had this level of care and attention lavished on it,’ said Guy Lees-Milne, Silverstone Auctions classic car specialist and general manager.
  • Jaguar calls on heritage to launch new XE saloon 9 Sep 2014 (News)
    Artists such as Emeli Sande and the Kaiser Chiefs performed at the event, with each performance highlighting key moments in the company’s history, from the launch of the SS100 sports car right up to the present day.
