RR4 to be known as the Rolls-Royce Ghost

Mon, 20 Apr 2009
The new model range known as RR4 will be named the Rolls-Royce Ghost from this point forward, the manufacturer announced today.

Chief executive officer Tom Purves revealed the information at the Shanghai motor show and said production of the vehicle is set to begin later this year in the UK.

He explained why the name was chosen, as it was previously used for some of the Rolls-Royce cars between 1906 and 1925.

"The first cars to bear the Ghost name were known not only for impressive dependability and refinement but also great flair and style," Mr Purves added.

Ghost reflects technical innovation and adventure, he said, going on to confirm that although the model will have its own dedicated production line, it will share leather, paint and wood workshops with the Phantom.

Those thinking of buying a car such as this may have to wait a bit longer for cost details as Mr Purves did not divulge how much the Ghost will set customers back.

Last month, Rolls-Royce announced it had loaned a Phantom Coupe to the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
