Good though it may be, the fact that a small, sporty car with excessive fuel consumption (Autocar test: 26.9mpg overall for the 1.6) calls into question the validity of the European 'Car of the Year' award. The judges are a panel of 56 journalists very few of of whom actually have to buy their everyday cars. -

Golf Mk VI: In just four years, a further 2.85 million Golf cars had been produced by the end of July 2012, based on the sixth generation of the car launched in 2008. And once again safety made great advances too: the car body was so rugged that it passed the EuroNCAP crash test with flying colours, gaining the maximum five stars. Meanwhile, more TSI engines and a transition among the turbodiesel engines (TDI) from unit injection to the common rail system resulted in greater dynamic performance and lower fuel consumption. A top performer here was the second Golf BlueMotion with a combined fuel consumption of just 3.8 l/100 km (74.3 mpg), equivalent to 99 g/km of CO 2 . New assistance systems, such as Light Assist automatic main beam management and Park Assist, made the sixth generation the most advanced Golf to date. -

Frankfurt Motor Show 2015: Skoda introduces 96g/km Superb Greenline 15 Sep 2015 (News)
Skoda has premiered the greenest, most economical variant of the new Superb at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show . The Greenline emits 96g/km of CO2 in saloon form or 97g/km as an estate, with fuel economy of 76.4mpg for both. UK pricing is to be announced but expect the saloon to cost around £21,000. Final pricing and equipment specification will be announced when sales start at the end of the year. -
Proton offer up to £1200 deposit allowance 8 Jun 2015 (News)
Proton are offering deposit allowances on their finance schemes, allowing buyers to take advantage of contributions from Proton. If buyers elect to purchase a dual-fuel LPG ecoLogic model through Proton Finance they can expect a £500 deposit contribution on the GEN-2 ecoLogic and a £700 deposit contribution on the Persona ecoLogic. -

It stated that the Golf had high build quality and a good model depth, while its eco-conscious fuel efficiency marked a shift in the sector towards CO2-friendly cars. Julie Jenner, chairman of AFCO, stated that these factors represent the changing face of the industry. "Once again, voting by ACFO members was highly competitive with more car models than usual gaining numbers of votes, thereby further underlining the increasing flexibility of company car choice lists to meet the many forms of fleet demand," said the authority. -

C-Cactus latest green advance from Citroen 4 Sep 2007 (News)
The "stylish" and environmentally-friendly vehicle from the French manufacturer is representative of its firm ecological values, the company commented. Fuel consumption on the C-Cactus is low, returning over 80 mpg for a price not dissimilar from a conventional car, while efforts have been made to economise the vehicle's production. For example, the door panels consist of two parts rather than 12 and the front bumper is attached to the rear tailgate.
