bmw warranty 17 May 2006 (Forum)
I bought the warranty when I purchased the car 3 years ago from the BM dealer. The dealer called yesterday stating that the car required a coolant and brake fluid change, these however were done only last year by the dealer !!. They also stated that the water pump required changing which would be done on warranty. This morning they phoned back saying that the suspension bushes had deteriorated so badly that the car was not safe to drive, and would not be under warranty. -
Speeding (mostly excl cameras) Vol 42 6 May 2006 (Forum)
Just round the corner from home there is a short, straight stretch of road that currently entertains a 30 mph limit, this road has no side turnings and it is generally thought to be daft that it is a 30 and not a 40 mph limit. Nevertheless there are a lot of drivers that will accelerate to 50 or 60 mph before braking in advance of the corner at either end, today I stopped to have a word with a police officer who was pointing a radar gun out of the window of his car, I was interested in whether it was a revenue generation exersise or a genuine attempt to catch the flagrant speeders. -
Renault Scenic gone crazy!!! 5 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I took my son to football this evening, as i got back into the car to go home, the following warnings came up, "ASR and ESP Failure" "Passenger Airbag deactivated" and "Parking Brake failure"!!!!! I suspect a faulty ECU, i know the car is under warranty, but was wondering what the problem may be, and has anybody else experienced this problem before??? thanks -
Bought a shocker ! Advice please.... 3 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Dad said when looking at the car, he has now found some bolts, and specifically the accelerator and brake pedals to have some rust on them. He has the Director of the dealership calling him back in the morning, and he's obviously very worried/angry in equal measure. Any thoughts on his legal rights to return the car? -
To the Polo on the East Lancs tonight... 18 Dec 2005 (Forum)
We got to the junction with the East Lancs road (traffic light camera enforced) and began to turn right when he decided to slam the brakes on mid junction thus forcing me to do so too. I was in disbelief thinking he was looking for another turn off or were lost so I gave a quick tap on the horn. Nothing. So I looked around to (bearing in mind we were smack bang in the middle of a very fast dual carriageway) when I saw a Police van with the blues on. -
Car Alarm installation diagram 18 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Most of the diagram doesn't make sense, especially the lower half of it where it says to connect to the handbrake, to the brake, to the charge indicator/oil pressure - How do I connect to them? Can someone please tell me where every wire goes? Don't want to make a mistake and spend a day trying to shut the damn thing off, Lol. -
Worst new car on sale today... 16 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Took the Scooby in for service today. (Good dealer nr Wigan BTW and cheaper than telephone quote inc brake fluid change). Offered courtesy car which turned out to be Daihatsu Terios Sport. UHGGH. OK it had less that 1000 miles but on the basis of 100 miles of mixed motorway, A road and urban driving I would make the following comments: - No torque anywhere No room for left foot, except under clutch pedal Cheap interior fittings Bouncy! -
Rover 414 99Reg 2 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hello there, I just bought this used car and it got a recorded mileage of 33670, and when i brough the car for a health check, the technician said it is due for cam belt change due to age (car first registered in jan 1999) and quote me £179 + vat. Is this the resonable price? I paid for my brakes pads change for £79 now i am skin. my questions are: 1) do i really need to change the cam belt? when is it due for a change? 2) is there any cheaper but reliable garage doing it at doncaster? 3) the car seems like struggling to start in the morning, what can i do about them? -
No tax, MOT, insurance. 26 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Hi Just thought members of the forum would like to comment on this and maybe suggest a solution: A car locally to road tax ran out in August, now its end Sep and the guy still use it 3 to 4 times dally (which I see however) without a care in the world, in fact he has boasted I don't need a MOT every year. It dose not appear very road worthy too; only 1 brake light works and tyres look dodgy. Now I thought enough is enough I will call the police and report him. After 3 tries all the reply I get is ?its a matter for DVLA and not a police issue?. I live deep in the countryside with low crime and I would guess not much for the boys in blue to do all day and thought they jump on this one, but no? -

Accord Electrical Problem Rectified 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
(I mentioned it here and it was moved to the technical forum where it met with a nil response.) Briefly, the fuse that protects the horn and brake lights has blown twenty-three times. It first started in May last year, when the car was less than three months old, and has been back to the dealer twice and on the back of a lorry to the Honda agent in Brive, France. -
Is it worth buying?? 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Exterior is really covered in moss etc but appears to just need a good clean. I reckon I'm going to need new tyres, belts, suspension bushes, oil, filter, plugs, battery brakes, gearbox oil, maybe a new cat and whatever else!!! Probably about £300 - £500 on parts before any labour. Even at that I don't know if the engine is knackered let alone the gearbox! Anyone know what it's worth. -
Picasso HDI Clutch Slip 20 Dec 2004 (Forum)
It is particularly bad when the engine is cold and you accelerate up a hill or from low rpm in high gear. Once the engine is warmed up it all but disappears. I've tried holding my left foot on the brake whilst accelerating and can't get the clutch to slip once the engine has been warm for a while. Evry now and again it will slip when warm but not often. The pic is 53 reg HDI and has covered 40,000 motorway miles (no I don't rest my foot on the clutch). -
Balloon in car 6 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I set off, at which point the weirdness started. I accelerated out of the car park and the balloons swept forwards. I hit the brakes, and they went backwards. Round the right hand bend of roundabouts, they crushed themselves over to the right of the car and on left hand bends, they went the other way. All the way home I was fascinated by the apparent reverse inertia. -
Discovery with front wheel shake at spee 29 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My L-reg Discovery sometimes starts to violently shake at the front, with a lot of loud rattling from under the front passenger side, usually between 50 - 65 mph. The steering wheel ossillates so much it is hardly steerable, I have stopped it by braking to 30-40mph, & by speeding up sometimes as well. It lately does it on long, slight right-hand bends, but at one time was set off by going over a motorway type flat bridge. Last year it took three visits to the garage to stop it - though they didn't know why it had stopped precisely! -
Rough justice 12 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Anyway, about half an a hour ago 3-4 idiots tried it again and one of them missed DEATH very narrowly indeed. A guy driving a brand new Elise along the main road was forced to slam his brakes on to avoid one of these "Deathwish" kids. Quite understandably, he jumped out of the car and exchanged a few choice adjectives with the stupid boy but then jumped into his car, slammed the door in frustration and smashed the side window in the process!! -
Time to sell - but how much? 31 May 2004 (Forum)
MOT is due July but I will be putting 12 months on before sale. Taxed until Feb 05. Car has also recently been serviced and fitted with new front brake disks and pads. Parkers suggests £5090 for 'Private Good' at 40000 miles so I'm guessing around the £4650 ono mark taking the miles into account, with room to drop a couple of hundred. I've seen similar cars in dealers for £6000 recently which makes me think I'm being more than fair. -
avensis vibration on acceleration 12 May 2004 (Forum)
It's still under warranty so no worries about getting it fixed. Took it to main dealer who balanced the wheels and checked the brakes - made no difference. My theory - and I'm not a mechanic - is that one of the driveshafts is a bit sticky. The frequency of the vibration seems to increase with road speed (judders faster as you drive faster). -
hyundai accent acceleration 7 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Im reluctant to take ito the the hyundai dealer as they have a habit in this area of ripping people off. Also, anybody know if fitting brakes the the accent is easy? ive done them before to an old rover 213, but was wondering if the accent is straight forward. Dont forget my model ,is the old facelift (eg, not the old chassis body nor the current car on sale.) -
Classic bad driving 15 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Lorry 1 decides to oevrtake lorry 2 , comes out without signal into path of CRV, gap between them is now about 20 yards at 60-70 mph .CRV hasn\'t anticipated this move, is spooked by lorry 1\'s move , so goes to lane 3, without signal . In lane 3 is a very fast-moving BMW which manages to brake in time . Lorry 2 turns off at the exit, not having signalled in advance , so lorry 1\'s manoeouvre unnecessary - he reverts to lane 1 . CRV goes back to lane 2. I doubt any of them had any idea of the danger they , and other road-users had been exposed to .
