  • Fiesta rear suspension bushes question 21 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Now I just popped my head under to see what had been done and noticed one of the bushes they have not managed to get all the way in, it's sticking out and they have had to adjust the mounting point to suit (there is a link to some hosted pictures below). Also the welding doesn't look too great either. On top of that they have left the hand brake cable off the clip on the subframe at each side. Although I'm not a mechanic, I have done quite abit of work on cars in the past, just get the feeling it's abit of a shoddy job, should I be taking it back to them to sort or is it acceptable.
  • Honda Shuttle/Odyssey - Bye bye Honda Shuttle - what next 28 Apr 2017 (Forum)
At long last the legendary reliability of our T-reg Shuttle has come to an end. She's failed the MOT not only on various tyre/brake/suspension items but also on emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and, for good measure, 'dense blue smoke.' So how can we hope to replace it ? My wife demands Japanese reliability in a petrol automatic with ample space for the approaching car boot season, and 7 seats for taking the family to Poland, and under £7000.
  • leaning peugeot 106 4 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Or rather the car leans at the front to wards the drivers side. The car drives farly well, goes in a strait line, brakes in a strate line and goes round corners ok. But putting my hand between the top of the frony wheels and the arch there is a bigger gap on the passendure side compared to the drivers side by about an inch or so!
  • Galaxy - Ford galaxy 1.9tdi which version is most reliable 7 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy one on a budget around 3500 with good service history to tow my caravan possibly around the 100000  mark or lower  which ones the most least  To give me the less trouble over the years what should I look  Out for when buying a used one of these .was any improvements made  Between each model release from 1995 up to 2006  As there are a number of issues on most if them I am trying  To get the best and least troublesome Version I can fix  and  remove most  Serviceable parts like brakes shocks  and stuff I can get to but when it comes to the engine side of matters apart from egr valives and service the engine is a no no lol So most stuff a can replace without an aid of a garage.
  • tightening track rod locking nuts 4 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I queried this and the said they would drop the price to £10.80 x2. They are also replacing the front brake pads so will have the car up on the ramps etc. Does anyone else think it's excessive to charge so much tighten 2 easily accessible nuts? Perhaps I am wrong but shouldn't this take about 10 seconds per nut?
  • Ford Focus 1.6 2007 - Handbrake cable adjustment 3 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I've little or no confidence in the garage where I had the job done following an issue with broken trim, so having read somewhere that a new cable will stretch after a while and will need adjustment, I'm going to do it myself. Haynes says (and I paraphrase) do it when the brakes are cool, tighten cable adjustment nut finger tight, raise handbrake 12 notches, fully release handbrake, slacken adjustment nut to end of threads, then raise back wheels and remove drums.  Ensure handbrake still fully released, insert 2.0mm feeler gauge between handbrake lever end stop and rear shoe on each side then tighten adjustment nut till the handbrake lever starts to move.
  • Hyundai i20 (2009) - MOT Advisory question... 21 Jun 2016 (Forum)
My 2009 5-door Hyundai i20 had its annual MOT and service. The MOT came back with an advisory note: "001 Brake pad(s) wearing thin, front [3.5.1g]" The garage did phone and notify me (saying the pads were "at 90%" -- whatever that means) and was going to charge £108 to replace the front pads, but I declined at the time.
  • any - modern cars 28 Aug 2015 (Forum)
When she went to leave she couldn't get it out, not unusual, its quite shocking how many drivers of both sexes can't do a hill start in reverse...quite why they don't reverse onto our drive i can't say but that's not the purpose of the post...so SWMBO as so often reversed the car out for her. I haven't a clue if it had the parking brake of doom or not, but it apparently had some sort of stop start on it and my mrs is impressed...not. She who must has just asked the question again...why?..quote ''all i want the thing to do is start and keep running, with a key not this push button rubbish'' Music to my shell likes, she's even more in her love with her venerable Outback because it just does everything she asks with no fuss simply.

  • Contravene Red Traffic Signal - Camera 12 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I have been sent notice of intended prosecution for the above 'alledged' offence - but - although the I did cross the white line, I did not go through the junction. The van came to stop about 1.5 metres over the line, the brake lights can clearly be seen on both photo's sent to me by the police thus proving what I said in the original letter of being true, I did stop but over the line. I commented on this when replying back to them but its a ticket office and they have no say in the matter.
  • Ford Fiesta Ghia auoto 2003 - start fault 29 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Sometimes when she (or I) try abd start the car nothing happens. We put the key in the ignition, put foot on brake, make sure it is in D, then turn the key all of the way. Nothing. The letter 'N' does not appear on screen as usual after a few seconds. There are no error messages at all on screen.
  • Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate - Car pulling to the left 10 Jun 2014 (Forum)
, tried the car on different roads, suggested that I swap the front tyres around, which I did last night, drive car today - still the same, so obviously not a tyre problem. I thought that the left brakes could be binding? Dies anybody have any thoughts?
  • "Parked" for 5 seconds! 13 May 2014 (Forum)
The camera car had followed him along the road and took a picture of him as he pulled to the side of the road (next to double yellows), to let the traffic come past, before he parked his car on the street.  The video shows him pulling to the side, with brake lights solidly on and about 3 seconds of him being "on" the yellow line. (he was actually going forward very slowly, but that isn't clear.) He went to the Parking Office today and the counter clerk said it might be worth appealling - but I am amazed!
  • Kia Ceed - Kia Ceed review 9 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I also had an occasionaly traction control wrning light, not sure what caused it but it would stay on until the ignition was turned off. Other than those issues, the car was brilliant. Performance, brakes, gear change, economy and rear space were all impressive. I spent nothing on it other thn servicing and tyres. To summarise I am evry impressed with it and will happily buy another.
  • Volkswagen Polo IV - Rattles for first couple of miles; rattle stops 13 Dec 2012 (Forum)
My Polo squeaks and creaks (and  rattles a little) for the first couple of miles or so of a journey; then the noise stops and driving seems quieter normal. It seems to happen if there is any uneveness in the road or often when I change gear or brake. I took it to the garage and after a quick look they said it was the front nearside wheelarch bush, which they said needs changing; and they want to change the offside front bush at the same time.
  • Mazda 6 - How to get insurance details from the other party 23 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I called my insurance and they said they will send me an assessment form which I did not receive yet. What is the right way to proceed? My car is badly damaged in the back. It was on parking brake and 1st gear but it moved 5-6 feet to the front with the impact. So I think there could be some damage more than the eyes can see.
  • VW Amarok - Amarok AutomaticHJ review 6 Jun 2012 (Forum)
The Amarok also get regenerative barking and low rolling resistance tyres which helps improve fuel economy - it averages a claimed 37.2mpg and emits 199g/km - better figures than the 2.0 BiTDI 163PS Amarok with a manual gearbox.".....   I am assuming the Stop-Start is unintrusive and that it has regenerative braking?   I do have a question or two also: 1 - What's the UK price for this? I'll check and see if I can find anything but it would have been nice to have a guide in the review.
  • 1996 Volvo 850tdi estate - Engine management system 4 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The engine occasionally misfires which can be followed by engine shut-down,all dashboard lights blazing and no power steering or brake servo. After pulling over and waiting for a few minutes engine can be re-started to resume journey as if nothing had happened! My local Volvo garage is unable to find the problem so have gone to a Bosch service centre.Despite their best efforts,a replacement electronic diesel pump and new crank sensor the problem persists.
  • BMW 5 Series E60 - BMW engine stop/start button 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Does anyone know if the car has an upgraded alternator or some kind of energy recovery from the brakes to allow this? I've read the manual from cover to cover but it glances over this, so I suspect it's more of a gimmick than anything useful! Thanks in advance.
  • Audi A4 - Audi A4 B5 Rear ABS ring 28 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Due to a stuck rear brake caliper the rear disc on the o/s of wife's 2000 (V reg) A4 1.9Tdi has become badly corroded. I've removed discs (the type with the bearing races pressed into the disc assembly ) and obtained new.
